Heya PPG that's about the right price for the 600w Gravita ballast and bulb and reflector, here in SA one of the biggest hydro places has the 600w and the 1000w setups for sale.
The Gravitas have been getting rave reviews worldwide and quite a few ICMag peeps are now using them and loving them, apparently you don't have to have them as close to the plants like you do with traditional HPS / MH setups and the bulbs last a hell of a lot longer too, so for $700Aud they really are a steal at that price, as they are a complete unit in one, Ballast, Bulb and Reflector.
I've been seriously looking at the 600watter but my indoor tent just doesn't have the height required to keep the light far enough away from the plants, might have to kick myself and the missus out of our bedroom and convert that to a grow space, with 10ft high ceilings I could grow indoor trees :yoinks:
:plant grow:

Hey

Re the Gavita . they are a great setup
I am currently running a 600w Gavita in a 1m x 1m x 1.8m tent with no height or heat issues
My first grow was spent dailing things in ....
I live in OZ and bought mine online from Europe..... it cost AU$350 and that includes $65 delivery to my front door. You are exempt from paying the 21% VAT tax when buying. Also you pay no Aussie tax on personal imports up tp $1000 . I could buy 3 of the complete 600w PROLINE GAVITAS for under $1000 . The units work fine on our power supply. The plug to power point is different but you just get a Dick Smith travel adapter for $15 , problem solved.
I can get the 1000w PROLINE for $485 delivered.
The cost is very exy for most things hydroponics/ indoor lighting in OZ

I had no probs at all getting my order through customs. I spoke to customs and they say they do not worry at all about hydro gear but they and quarantine have a prob if you were trying to import anything organic including organic nutrients/adatives
During the 6 warmer months of the year i have to use a GAVITA DIGISTAR 400w which has 10% boost and is dimable also. There was only 2 days last summer where i had to dim the 400w down to 300w and those days were 45 and 46 degrees celcius . you might remember them.
I also veg using the 12/1 Gas Lantern Routine and flower at 10/14 which helps keep temps much more managable during the warmer months.
I also grow/flower using short squat indicas and use canopy management , supercropping ,which helps me stay within the height restrictions i have , SCROG and SOG would be also good for canopy management

BUY THE BEST FUG THE REST.:) UNCLAMP END AND WHOLE SHADE AND GLOBE POPS OUT FOR REPLACMENT, THEY RECOMMEND EVRY 12 MONTHS, OR 5000 HRS? STARTED AT 40 INCH UP , PLANTS STOOD TO ATTENTION, NOW AT 36'' JUST TESTING. GOT NO BLOODY SHADE IN MY WAY UNDER OR AT SIDE, BIGGER SPREAD THAN THEY SAY, HEAT IS A BETTER FEEL IN ROOM AND IT SPREADS OUT AND AWAY BETTER.HEAT FROM BALLAST IS BUGGER ALL, DOES WANT TO FRY YOUR HAND ON TOP OF SHADE, NO NOISE, CAN HARDLY HEAR IT OVER FANS ON MY MONITAR. MUST CHECK REPLACMENT PRICE ON CHANGOVER SHADE AND GLOBE. WHAT =LADERA SAID IS INTERESTING I FORGOT TO CHECK OVER SEAS, OLD AND IMFERMED FUG IT,LOL. THESE HAVE BEEN AROUND SINCE 1997 ? ON U TUBE .

Hey guys

yes , I have read a number of threads/posts by whazzup at different forums... great info from him, i have learnt a lot from him re lighting.
The Gavita range imported into Australia is quite limited as compared to what Gavita make and is available in other countries.
With the Gavita proline 600w and 1000w you can also buy them with a remote ballast. But not in Australia. Good for grow areas with limited height to play with.
Gavita also have Digistar series of dimmable digital ballasts, also with boost , in 400w , 600w and 1000w options. But not in Australia
They also have HPS bulbs (250w,400w,600w)) that have an internal reflector within the bulb , these bulbs are compatible with the Digistar ballasts. These IR bulbs have a wider spread of light and they say this lets you get the IR bulb a bit closer to the plant canopy , again another atvantage for those with limited grow room height. But not in Australia
They have another reflector besides the proline reflector , it is called the Triplestar ,which has adjustable side reflectors. But not in Australia

well my big girl is down now and hanging out to dry...only a couple small spots of mould but otherwise clean...about 15 - 20% amber, some clear and most cloudy trichs...will have a good load of A grade head stash that will last a while on my moderate needs...

got her daughter planted out in the bush...she will be as big but with more bud sites as my pruning technique improves...hopefully...

sorry no pics as the friggin camera is on the fritz....again...
