Critical Sensi Star and 1 lonely Black Russian

About 5 weeks in. Using a new medium, more or less an experiment of soils, Roots 707 and Happy Frog mixed. And a mix of guanos.

Vegging these lil' ladys for 8 weeks, under 400 MH, then onto 600 HPS for flowering. Been supercropped, tied, and topped. Just installed my new ghetto SCRoG.

Have heard some good things back in the day about the Critical Sensi. Just got done setting the room back up a few weeks ago (after our move), and thought they'd be good for the first run, and 1 lonely Black Russian i had received as a freebee from the tude'.

Fingers crossed. :plant grow:

looking good, are you feeding them any silica? the minerals in the guano just get better over time if you added the right ratios. which by the picture looks like it

Good Day, and thanks for stopping by. I am not feeding them any silica, just alil Great White (mycorrhizae) every other week, and guano. Will be switching to a mix of different guanos for flowering. This is my first organic grow (long time hydro-farmer), and am very excited at the results thus far.

I will be keeping this updated as we progress. Good day to all. Hope all is well. ToT.:tiphat:

Hi ToT,

I am also growing with organics and while I appreciate these methods it also is quite a challenge to me personally so I am always looking for ways to learn more and improve. This round was a serious trial and error with thrips infestation i let go to far and am attempting to control using neem (even though i have spinosad on hand) and botanical teas.

I thought I would add a few comments here, from stuff i read elsewhere and applied to my garden so let me know if it's too far off topic in your view. Silica, can be useful and is found in many minerals including perhaps guano, but mostly in rock dusts and clay as well as sand, and of course hydroponic grade potassium silicate. in the rock/clay/sand form it is not always available, we rely on silica solubizing soil bacteria to transfer the mineral to the plan. Obviously hydro pot/sil will be immidiately available. For those of us who have access to this hydro product silica can be applied all throughout the grow cycle by soil drenching as well as foliar (good opportunity to add neem, as silica emulsifies it). PErsonally I add rock dusts mixed with compost as a top-dressing for the girls, and this seems to get the job done well enough (of delivering micronutrients to the plant). Actually I use basalt dust and it works VERY well for this purpose (silica).

I would even venture so far as to guess one may find more use for basalt dust or clay than guano's, because you can add more quantitatively to the soil to feed the soil microbes than guano's without harming your plant. Additionally, rock powders may supply a wider range of minerals than found in guano's although typically containing less concentration of NPK. In this respect the minerals may be continually top-dressed for a slow release effect, while guano's may not be suitable for the same reason, the slow release nature of guano as well as its concentration may cause fertilizer burn.

well I apologize if that long winder is out of place

Canna, thanks very much for the insight. While scouring the IC, i have come across the silica threads, but have yet to do the research into it. And i to have been challenged with this transition. I had a short learning curve, but just as the topic you have presented, i havent done all my homework yet apparently. I am very, very intrigued though at the possible benefits you have described.
I too, am looking to improve, constantly. Just as an old farmer told me. "Growing high quality cannabis is easy, you only have to know one important thing." "EVERYTHING IS IMPORTANT." lol.... And no apologizes necessary. Your train of thought is right up my alley. I will be looking into this, and will keep ya posted on my findings. Be well. ToT :tiphat:

Yeah, silica is an interesting topic. Some plant accumulate it, but it takes composting them to release the element I believe (or fermenting them but i have not tried that). Other wise, rice or buckwheat hulls (waste product of beer brewer's) supposed to have high levels of silica, they decompose very slowly, and hold more air than almost any other soil amendment. They can be composted or carbonized to activate the silica for the soil microbes.

It's one element among many the plants utilize. Thinking about elements by them selves is useful to an extent, if you can add a bit of every thing you may see results down the line, with fully mineralized soils that improve with time... watching the plants grow can be a good indicator of whether the soil is moving in the right direction, and in the same way i guess it is with hydro or any grow method, any sign of less than healthy growth can be useful to analyze what is going on and fix the issue with the next watering

let me know what else you come up with

Hello Tot.......nice to see ppl doing organics in smaller areas....I am currently doing an indoor tent grow...5gal buckets DWC with Hydro nutes...my hats off to you guys who can master organics.......great grow.....my quick question is...was wondering what breeder your Critical Sensi star was from?....reason i am asking is because I got a freebie fem from Delicious seeds and was hoping yours were the same .....great topic on silica too....keep us posted Thanks

Good day, indeed the genetics are from Delicious Seeds. The CSS, as well as the Black Russian. The BR had been started a few weeks after the CSS (had a failure), but has shot up right with her lady friends. Will post current 3/9 wk flowering pics.

Good day to all, and i hope all is well, with all.

Be well.. ToT:tiphat:

your pretty much correct http://en.**********.eu/strain-info/Black_Russian/Unknown_or_Legendary/
However....the black russians coming out today are of varied parentage....check the tudes site for the current black russians....Also I think that Tot got his free.....the genetics he got arent so bad either...just my :2cents:

Yes im correct....I paid $1000 for 10 seeds of black Russian in early 2000s. Still making money off that purchace today!

and those aren't black Russians. Just some place adding the name of a strain you cant get in seed form anymore to sell their shit. Might be great plants, just not black Russian.

Most sincerest apologizes to all. Life happens, thus the neglection of the journal. But, I have updates up til harvest. As far as the "Black Russian" debacle, i have no clue. Was a freebie, from the tude', as stated in first post. Smells killer though.

First image: 6th week of veg, before flip (height issues). Rest of the pics are 2 and 1 week before chop. Bud pic is a CSS top. A most addicting aroma from this little lady!! Flowered for 8 1/2 wks, following a 6 week veg. Black Russian is top left lady in pics. Not any purple in her. Although she smells of some kind of fruit, and is very, very dense. The CSS came out nice. With larger pots and another 600, theyll explode next time!! All in all. I really like the full organic/soil grow. Pretty forgiving on a few mishaps, worked well with all my noob approach techniques. We'll give a smoke report in a few weeks of a sample after i start curing. Again my apologizes for leaving ya'll hanging. Till next time. Much love to all. Be well. ToT

Found a sample whilst doing further processing. Smelled very sweet when squeezed, ever so gingerly. So without further ado.
Smoke Report: Rolled a moderate size j.
Very smooooth!! Easy on the lungs. Tastes of a fruit, we cannot place. Or what we think is a fruit flavor. lol
Between myself and the ol' lady, we put it out half way in.
Feeling all the beautiful euphoric effects, of a medicine grown by the love of two.
This particular sample seemed to be of a sativa dominant pheno? Tudes descrip says both indica and sativa traits, on this Indica. Gave a bit of a rush, no couch lock. but we're definitely stoned!
Not racy, but energetic and motivating. My new day-fav'!
30 min in-out of a ADS 1 footer, decided to hit it up: tastes a bit???? hazy??? hmm, perhaps im just stoned. I can't place the taste accuratley. Perhaps i have neglected my glass piece as well. Anywho!? Good FUCKING STONY TIMES!!!

I was quite skeptical to boot. Not necessarily entirely of mishaps, but for the fact we have delved into the world of concentrates for a short time now, and have noticed a tolerance increase with flowers. Not with the CSS we had sampled. We'z good to go! I cannot wait to run her again. Hope you have enjoyed. Grapegod is the next run, but what we have in store next, will be our sweet spot. With a more timely managed journal to match. Much love to all. Hope all is well, with all. ToT :tiphat:
