some of the offsets on my totem pole cactus,getting lots of sun,growing very nicely,the two main offsets have put on 6 inches of growth already which is pretty astounding from a cactus...its really getting nice a knobby too...

took a big step in eliminating car miles from the garden,picked up my new bike and trailer last week,just went and got a carolina jasmine for the soon to be built pergola...it will have red and yellow honeysuckle and the mint garden on one side,the jasmine and some morning glory on the other side on trellises,should make a nice shady spot...

I've used bamboo for transplanting(kinda like chop sticks but using both hands) and also some of that rigid packing foam.

Judging from that bike,I'd say you are 6.4' ?

it was nice of the nursery people to think of me when they saw it was coming into bloom....i got at least 50% of my cactus to bloom this year,some are still too young....some of them,like this one,have just spectacular blossoms however short lived they may be...

lol,no scale on that one to judge but that saguaro is about 2 feet tall,thats a 7 gallon nursery pot...
and 6 6 actually,the road bike is 63cm,this one is xlarge...

I new I should of went with 6.6'. I'm waiting for the hedgehog to bloom for a pic.It usually will bloom in July +.

Thank God the monsoon is started!No rain yet but the dew point is up and I seen some rain in the distance yesterday.

we got like 1/4 inch the other day,i havent had to water for 2 days,the temps dropped by 15 degrees as well,not even 90 today...
all my hedgehogs already bloomed for the season i think,i dont see any others around town with blossoms still...im still getting some in the greenhouse here and there,maybe once it cools off i may get another flush of blooms....

I'm altered right now, but it blooms like clockwork every July and into August, also_Of course as you know lack of water would be a factor. When I got this I thought it was a Saguaro,

i can see why,aside from a few subtle differences in the spine pattern its a dead ringer for my saguaro....christ thats a beast,never seen many even approaching that size in the desert,most of our hedgehogs tend to clump rather than get that massive! im super jealous and suddenly hate all my tiny little ones! lol

Sorry,unc,that is another one.This is the one I was talking about.That Saguaro you posted earlier is what I was referring to with the prior post.

lol,well that explains its freakish size alright! its possible im a little high right now...i was just working in the garden,the tomato plants have just exploded in growth,i wish i had pruned them and caged them up earlier but good lord they got big!

im defiently gonna get a couple succulents and cacti next time at home depot.
maybe some heirloom tomatoes aswell.

i wish my local store would restock,everything they have looks like crap,i still pick through the survivors,if it can handle 5-6 months of walmart care its a tough plant...



speaking of tough plants,got the saguaro repotted,fucker bit me a couple times:tumbleweed:
out to bask in the sun now along with some of the native plants,you can see a side oats grama grass and some rock daisies...

some of the mainly native landscape plants,about a dozen or so agaves and yuccas,about half native species,a few naturalized,and a smattering of exotics for color,a half dozen or so cactus,mainly opuntias or prickly pear types,a hedgehog and a beehive type cactus,more native grasses a couple trumpet vines,a sage bush,paper flowers,another evening primrose,some of the native penstemons,a couple of budelias,a desert willow,a pomegranate tree...oh its gonna be something in a few years time....its densely planted in many respects....but there is just insect and bird like galore coming to the yard,hardly see many bees but theres always plenty on the sage,tons of butterflies,lizards and skinks...seeing all sort of critters...
