your a determined man hitting the trail in that heat but i want to know if you ever noticed that vaping or toking makes you more heat tolerant.

i do not sweat due to a cervical spinal injury but when i hit the road to push some miles im in a constant battle with overheating and in fla i have to pick my exercise time wisely but ever since i started smoking to get spasm relief i am much more heat tolerant and i notice i spray myself down less often when pushing in the middle of august.

all the skate / surf talk brings back good memories before my injury so i now watch utube vids to get my fix and if ya like downhill street skating check out a video called 'RAW CRATERNESS'............7+ min ride, no edits and just bad ass.

id love to ride it in a stretched out wheel chair.......maybe one day a crazy quad will blaze down it w/go pro on record.

I've never noticed if vapor makes me more heat tolerant. I know it dries my mouth out..not a good thing...but since I vaporize right before I run..I'm able to drink along with it....cure the dry mouth.

Heat to me is like elevation...conditioning and acclimation..though some peeps are more geared for it than others. I have not many problems acclimating to heat...but get me in the cold...and I'm fucked. I don't do cold..well..I do...but not well..and I don't like it.

My saving grace in heat: I'm not a big bodied person...and most importantly...I sweat like a horse. When I'm running...there is a thick coating of sweat dripping off me. It's like going into a sweat lodge. I think of it as a membrane film of air conditioning..add a little breeze..and I'm comfortable. Sweating is a great indicator of conditions...for both...body and weather.

If I stop sweating...I know it's time to get off the trails...that things are getting critical...cramps are soon

* I'll check out that video. Sucks to hear..about your spinal injury. I've been real fortunate thus far (don't know why)..say my blessings every day. Being able to run..motivates me to run...even when I don't want to..because some day...one of my runs..will be my last. It's inevitable...but something I refuse dwell on

lol,of course you dont do cold well, you need body fat to stay warm!! sometimes i miss the "flanket" ,the fat blanket, but thats why the baby jeebus created post consumer waste fleece jackets!

When I hunt late season i get very cold. To combat this I eat high calorie food very often through out the day and before bed in camp.
This has helped the cold tolerance dramatically and I am in good shape.

It's all so very very Strange

It's all so very very Strange

The Day 13 run: the run started a couple minutes before noon..ended before 2...well into the heat. Ran from trail off into a fuel break...side sloping up and down the well spaced fuel break...digging into decayed granite (the consistency of beach sand)...up and down..sliding around...then landed

back down on trail...run run run the trail up a canyon until I could pick up an old jeep trail...rocky ass jeep trail led me down to a single lane road....run run back to start...bit more than 10 miles

Strange...how some days I feel better than others. Today I expected (stupid...shouldn't have any expectations) to feel worn out..and kind of...just hang in there...get through the run and get back in the shade. Taking the first few steps up the trail...legs went into gear no problem..breathing calmed right through the nose...felt chilled and comfortable...off into trail land I went...slipstreaming through the curtains of heat waves...churning legs...seeking grip

I heard "you're crazy"...in an european accent...coming from a mountain biker...as we hit the same switchback..him coming down...me going up...which really....is all it took to get me into a higher geared flow...running like a rubber man..over a rocky section...feeling fluid in the element. Whatever it takes...I say...whatever motivates...sometimes I run better if I know I'm being watched...like it's essential to represent the sport.

Most the time..I'm alone with myself...the only motivation coming from myself..a game played in privacy...isolation..so..I mean..it's cool sometimes to get some pushes from others. It never has...ever hurt...I can say that. I run better under pressure

* The best stretching I have found for any activity...is actually done while..performing that activity. Most my run stretching...is done..while running. Just makes sense. You can loosen up...train your body into poses...but that doesn't work..as well as...actually going out and training on the trail. Trail running...to me..is a form of yoga

These consecutive days of running are helpful because...as I wear down...I can understand where my weaknesses are...what's going to give first..what is going to give me problems...then as I decipher all the aches and pains..I can figure out ways to fix the issues. I can't do that off trail...it has to happen while I run. So far...no major aches or pains...tired and a little sore..but I'm always like that

** We don't get the monsoons like AZ...but we get the monsoonal flow..and I believe it is beginning to feel like that here...with the coming of this heat wave. Too early really...but there is build up over the mountains...so...something is going on...and hey...I totally welcome it. I love this weather...100 degree days...and at dawn..this morning..55 degrees....outdoor gardens rock out...and the indoor gardens..still manageable

So nice that at your elevation it's 55 in the morning.

I took the dogs for their morning free, off-lease run in the nearby wash this morning. At 6am it was 87 F.

Today Phoenix hit 118 F........totaly crazy to live in a cement coffin filled with pollution like that.

Tucson, nearer to me, was only 110 F at 6:30pm.

Where I live it hit 104-105 F this afternoon, however the monsoonal flow is building, clouds today covering the sky, and the humidity is making my evap cooler fail....

I moved a few tons of rock over the last days...changing the 7 year configuration of the Secret Patio. Love having this intensity on my girls.

So nice to have that Sears window air-conditioning unit to fall asleep by....

^ Looking good dude. I've never run the AC unit in the house..fans, shade from trees, close the windows and the blinds after the heat starts building..then open in the evening (now)..let the air come in...all night.

Both my dogs came into the bedroom at dawn...so i knew the house was getting cold enough...to wake them up. I don't run AC in my gardens either...running flowering lights at night...with fans and big exhaust..generally allows me passage. Might be hot for a little while..but as the night goes on..the temps drop drastic

Couldn't imagine living in the city..that shit...is just plain...unhealthy. My air...might be thinner..dryer than down in SD...but it's cleaner...don't get the big brown clouds...like up in Riverside

It's feeling humid here..with monsoonal flow looking clouds...and I'd expect more build up tomorrow. I'm taking advantage of conditions..watering the gardens morning and night...greening up with these warm nights...good growth output amongst the veggie population

went out and rode the road bike today, funny what a different sort of machine it is from the mountain bike...the road bike is all about a refined level of suffering...it is simply a machine to deliver mechanical energy to the road in the most efficient manner possible with only the most modest nods to comfort...the sitting position and placement of the bars and controls all designed to compress you into a dense energy core to slice through the wind...the mindset is one of discipline in the face of pain, continuing to drive forward relentlessly, focused only on turning those circles in endless cadence while expending the absolute least energy....

the mountain bike however is about solidly implacable churning along....you aint going anywhere very quickly, but you will get there almost regardless of what the terrain has in store....a much different style of pedaling to,with so many gears theres really no point in struggling,i towed a bag of medium up the steepest hill around and just dropped into the granny gears and i wasnt even breathing hard at the top...even on the road bike with a good run up to the bottom i will drop from say 24 mph to 10-12 mph by the top even if i really dig hard all the way...and thats only 18.5 lbs of bike to deal with, between the mountain bike the trailer and the medium i had at least 70 lbs of stuff i was moving,i could see how even with a full touring load its not that difficult to climb with...cant wait to go drag some shit around!

Cool stuff Unc

The weather is brutal...triple digits once again..with some monsoonal flow..making it muggy. There is breeze...but then...there is not...and the air becomes heated...dry...dead

Day 14...2wk mark. Did 7 miles...bit sluggish...feet not landing precise...jarred my right hip a bit..because I got lazy..and reached for the ground..little twisted jolt..that I was able to work out within a 1/2 mile. Never reach for the ground...as there should be no worry..the ground will come to you...lazy stupid move is...reaching for the ground

I'm wasted...shading up...taking a nap

I'm sure it will be well worth it ! I know that when people work hard on their hobbies..the end result is always satisfying. Lucky for us, our hobby also gets us high

It hit 106 here the other day and the last thing I would of thought to do is take a run....respect!

It hit 106 here the other day and the last think I would of thought to do is take a run....respect!

I'm fucking getting beat up now...today anyways. Caught that jarring hit to my right side yesterday...it must have tore a little something in there..feels that way..a pull on the hip flexer..nothing major...just an annoying shivering feeling...

..did not feel like running at all. Day 15...almost there...2 more runs..past the point of whether it's doing me any good (I'd say: it is not)...

waited until 5:45 to run...around 95 degrees...muggy..the heat well placed...as I ran south west facing trail..yellow blinding glow...the entire day slowly baked...dry rock hard

Felt good (for being beat)...though I didn't run well..the sounds of my feet heavier than they should have been..no authority to their chomps...a surrendered lack of aggression...hanging in there

* saw some bucket tracks (the kind 5 gal buckets make)...all over this section of trail. Someone collecting manzanita apples?....couldn't figure it out...but kept running...soon came into a shady...live oak stand...saw some bright orange off to the side

...there was some skinny long hair hippie dude...dancing around with some kind of stick (looked metal)...a Homer bucket beside him....totally took him off guard..

"what's up dude?" I asked directly..as he took notice of me. "Yaaaargh" is all he could answer back (I guess)....looked like he was flying pretty high..and he was swinging that stick...swashbuckler style..at the low hanging oak branches...

I kept going....it's the wrong time of year to be gathering acorns. Farther up the trail...I was tempted to run back..and ask him if he could kick down.."Yaaaargh!!!!!!" must have been righteous

Funny the shit that I come up on...how easy it would be...to take a different turn...these brush fields are filled with opportunity

Yo P3.....it was a long time ago in the 70's that I was hiking up Sycamore Canyon, the 15 mile red rock canyon that starts just west of Flagstaff and continues south to the Verde River 8 miles outside of Clarkdale, with my Colombian friend and George, the crazy Arizona dealer who was my best AZ friend. We were higher than the proverbial kite and on a forced march to get several miles up canyon to a killer swim spot. As we came around a certain bend in the canyon bottom cliffs, we came right up on two hippies having sex. The woman was sitting on the guy's lap and they were buck naked.

Without missing a beat we all said "Hi" or "How's it going" and just kept on blasting up the canyon. They were frozen and didn't even move or say a word. later, upon thinking about the incident, I thought that they must have felt pretty damn scared to see three big outdoor guys in the middle of nowhere just show up suddenly.

Sycamore and a few other spots like Wet Beaver Creek (not kidding) have always had fascinating and weird moments like you mentioned. The list is long and funny....except for the dead ones people find, either from suicide or from accidents and total collapse in nature with no reserves to get home.

strikes a cord with me:

strikes a cord with me:

" no reserves to get home............"

I have been almost dropped...hardly able to walk..cramps up and down. That's a helpless feeling...and once you have been there....you never want to be there...again

Happened to me a few Labor Days ago...didn't hydrate fully the night before...didn't pay respect to my environment...ran out of water...in the middle of nowhere...soon went into cramping...wanted to crawl

made it to a camp ground...legs locked up stiff..let myself fall like a board...under a water spigot...lay there with my mouth open...for at least a 1/2 hr...then

still unable to run...I hobbled back..more than a mile...to my truck. I vowed after that day...never would I put myself there...again. Got taught a severe lesson. It's a mistake away...been my experience..that when shit goes south..it's usually a compounded batch of events...snake bite and no water...broken ankle and no water etc etc......no doubt..can get killed real simple

Do you dudes remember...."Scrub"????????????

Scrub is that volunteer herb plant...popped up last spring....right where I throw out clusters of beans (for my own amusement)...1 of 3 that popped...

happened to be in a better position than the other two...survived at least 10 frosts...survived being uprooted (rough transplant)..ripped apart...supercropped/crushed/topped on every branch

Here's some damage inflicted yesterday

Growing in stock medium (decomposing granite)...no perlite...no potting soil...top amended with some worm castings...and today I poured whatever bottles of organic nutes I had (yrs old) all around

Looks like it wants to start flowering...and I'm thinking it's a female...so if it is...I suppose I'll mess around with her..flower her out.

* It's growing over the pit....deep down there..is some compost...but I'm not sure the roots will dig deep enough to find it. Wasn't really wanting to do OD this season..and I don't want to put in much effort..see how it goes...hell...it could still be a male...I'm unsure

Heartless

Heartless

You must be

The Congo leaning Dcong F4....written off as a total loss

Never stopped stretching...looked like an endless flower....over 40 days into flower and going nowhere

* Here's my thoughts on indoor plants needing over 100 days in flower: not worth the money it takes to grow them...not worth the control problems...not worth the extra space they take up...just not...worth it

I've grown quite a few plants that went over 90 and a few that went over 100...and I'm telling you...I've never been totally satisfied for my efforts. I can score expressions...that are better...and come in 70 days or under...

I've learned this lesson several times now...practical application is to cull those fuckers out of my gardens. I will never flower past 90 days...ever again...(well...you know..lol...I say that)

...this Dcong F4 was looking...at least...like a 120 day expression

** It's depressing...but more depressing...going to term and finding air buds as the end result...with no promises..that they will even be great to smoke. Going past a 100 days (or even 20 days lol) to find...you landed a fiber/hay expression... is sin. I'm not that kind of grower...I play odds...and I weigh in expenses...especially with my electric bill taking a serious hike...come sept 1

That's the Bean Game

That's the Bean Game

I'm over it already...it's certainly not the plant's fault..just the way mathematics play out in genetic lines. F4....all kinds of things are going to expose themselves. You have to gamble..indoors...that you get a hold of an expression that will work out. This one...even though a hybrid...was dosed overly deep in its Congo roots..and that..is not what...will work for me.

* The other "big girl" is a freak...she's big...but her flowers are super small and look tight. In her early 40's she is showing signs that...she will not be around much past 60 (if that)...and really reminds me..in appearance and aroma (piney) of Pine Tar Kush...haven't seen an expression like her...other than in PTK

The 3rd girl (have not shown her yet)...the one that was a huge pain in the ass...in veg (nutrient issues???whateveritwas)...is now actually looking like..she might be the one that works...best. Don't want to jinx her...why I'm waiting on showing her...I believe in jinxes

** By culling the Congo leaner...I was able to put in:

2: SFV OG Kush X Blue Satellite 2.2 IX1

On Deck:

Satechism IX1 = Casey Jones X BS 2.2

Strange Days = Blue Moonshine X BS 2.2
