SecondAttempt's first attempt at PPKs...

Hey man, you persevered through the challenges and got the job done. In the end, you learned a lot from it and have more knowledge going forwards. Sounds like a success to me.

I hadn't run a recirc system before ppks either and had the same thing going on with the EC climbing. I found a good study where it was recommended for a no drain recirculating setup to have the EC at ~1/3 in your bulk reservoir of what you initially filled the system with. I'll try and find the link for you. Basically what happens is the water is evaporated or transpired by the plants at a higher rate than they use nutrients out of it. If you keep adding back full strength solution it will steadily grow until your EC is quite high and you have to add plain water.

Your next round is gonna be killer man!

i would like to hear more about this too as i have a rising EC issue. Not a bad one, but it is there.

IF your EC is rising you started to high to begin with. EC rising means plants are using more water than nutes, time to dilute. EC steadily falling while ph slowly rises and you're golden. I allow my recirculating reses to fluctuate between 0.6-1.0 EC, PH 5.5-6.2.

Mr D is dead on.....In any re-circulating setup , as the plants eat PH rises as EC falls......gradually.......

Bigger the rez , the slighter the variance ,but neither here nor there.....If EC rises , PH falls and fucks with nutrient uptake and guaranteed will cause lockouts and imbalances if not brought back to proper levels and ppm`s.....

Good call Dbro....

The manufacturer of the infield conditioner says they remove the dust before packaging but there is still quite a bit. I did however pull 8.5 gallons of usable media out of a bag that cost $13.28 after tax.... Thats $1.56 per gallon, not the best but better than being raped by John Deere for Turface.

Hello. I was wondering how this medium worked out for you? Ay problems or complaints>

Funny you should ask.... I've recently made the switch back to coco and I am setting up Blumats. We live in a med state but the regs are very unstable at this time... the new goal is a plant into the donut every 7-10 days and one plant out. This will keep us legal as there will never be a huge amount of harvested bud around.

PPKs in donuts is tough but my growspace/environment doesn't lend itself to any different style but donuts. I will definitely break the PPKs out when my situation changes.

As far as the medium, it works, it's Turface under a different name as far as I can tell... The initial screen/rinse blows, again I'm in a tough spot. With more land and without neighbors screening/rinsing could be less difficult.

I did have terrible algae growth on top of this medium, which I could/should have addressed with light blocking covers. The algae invited fungus gnats, the worst I've had.

I think I wound up dragging nasties from run to run reusing the media, I just recently bought Physan 20 which I should have used between runs to sterilize. Again if I had land I would build a large brick oven outside and bake the media. I thought about building a solar oven to do this now... but my neighbors are damn near on top of me and it's just to weird (attention grabbing).

We plan on moving to a friendlier/less expensive state where we can get several acres and I can grow weed in peace.

Man, there are too many growing styles. And you guys switch up to much. LOL! Every time I learn about one, another is introduced to me. HAHA
