:lurk: better late than never.

although the panels are drawing much less power than advertised i agree with what others have said about them each being roughly equivalent to a 600w HID and they still should perform pretty well.

anyway, best of luck to you sir :tiphat:

Hey GP73LPC glad you could make it to a complete LED newbies grow but have past experience with HID, I know with you on board giving advice I should do ok.

The seller came back with this reply when I asked about the current draw:
Dear friend,

Thanks for your kind response and understanding.

Our engineer tested the real power consumption of this batch of 5w led grow lights, and we got lower power consumption. Because we used a batch of 5w chipsets with lower voltage, and this batch of 5w chipsets are expensive too. PLS don't worry and the lumen of each 5w led is same. The power consumption will not affect the function of the light. We will choose 5w chipset with high voltage next time. Hope you can kindly understand.

The voltage of white/blue led is 3.2-3.4v, and the voltage of red led is 2.2-2.4v. Because we separate leds with different spectrum range, and the ratio of each 1200w light is same. But we can not control that leds we used to the light with same voltage, so the real power consumption of each light is a little different. Like we used more 3.2v and 2.2v leds to one light, and the real power consumption of the light will be lower. Hope you can kindly understand.

You can try to use these lights, and please don't worry that the real power consumption will not affect the function of the light.

Wait for your kind response.

--------------------

Probably just bollocks but the say they are still putting out 1200 even though they take take less to power, but As I was using 3 600 watt HPS bulbs before then the yield should still be good.

hey the ebay seller shows a pic of 2 controllers, grow and bloom... do you have them both on max?

I didnt know you could change them?? There are no switches at all on the units unless you undo the screws and do it from inside? There where no pics before about an adjuster so I will take a look.

Thanks for the info.

Just looked and that green light that has switches is not the one thats for sale mate. Shame lol.

not to sound harsh or offensive, but i believe the seller knows they are falsely advertising and that the majority of people will not pursue the problem or even be aware that they draw much less than advertised.

and legally you probably have no recourse, unless they decide to refund your money.

with that said, i still believe the lights will impress with what they can do. if you pull even .5 gpw you should harvest a total from all three lights of 1.3 lbs or more ;) if you happen to hit around 1 gpw you could easily pull 2.5 lbs. :tiphat:

Thanks my friend :) Great advice from a very knowledgeable LED grower.

Peace

My apologies for mixing the two types up. I looked again, and of course your right, the square ones are on/off, the green have the knobs. If it won't hurt your warranty, perhaps you could peek at the drivers to see what they are rated for? Any way to validate the LED's used? what kind of heat exchanger - alum or something else?

Just thinking, maybe they cheaped out on the driver, the led's are still 5w, so maybe, just maybe they could be driven just a bit harder?

Either way, bet you got a great show ahead - and its still a pretty good cost/watt@plug!

Good luck with the 800k variables that come with growing, i'm subbed, and hopefully joining you LED pioneers soon ;)

Think DirkDiggla said if they are Driven Harder They Produce More Heat but the Light Intensity Doesn't Increase as They are at a set Position ?!?

If its all working DD I wouldn't go Prying.. Lol not at that Price m8.
What's that Saying..

I have decided to take the back off one of them and get some pictures of the internals for the guys that would know what to look for.

Thanks for the great info, advice adviceand positive vibes.

Will post pics asap.:tiphat::ying:

as the seller marked the units at $60 each I paid no import or duty

It helps but its no guarantee , had camera gear for 600 shipped from Hong Kong via courier , delivered fast and signed for like yourself.

A week later i got a letter from TNT demanding 200 quid import duty they had paid on my behalf , and another 20 for processing it.

First i knew about it and it had to be paid.

Of three items dropshipped from China , one was charged duty but two near identical packages were not , the one stopped was marked as a sample , still a bit random.

Find the Warranty void if oppened tapes steam off with a kettle spout and can be replaced unnoticed . first thing i do from fleabay or dropshipped is open it up and see how it works , and examine the build quality and components used , as a retired engineer its hard not to.

Most electronics from China have wireing that would barely be acceptable in the UK if made here , too many dry and loose solder connections , and in the worst case an overlong caseing screw had penetrated a live wire and others had split circuit boards.

But it still had a signed OK Passed sticker on it.

The units i had were all fitted with many relatively low spec and quite noisy pc fans , as they failed i pulled of the caseing and ran fine with a 6 inch clipon blowing over it instead.

Ripping off the plastic in front of the leds seemed to improve the lighting as i had to back off a couple of inches to avoid bleaching spots , but anecdotal.

A single larger quality industry standard axial fan , and a reliable electronic thermal cutoff instead of a poorly placed fusible link might be a better design all round , if i ever DIY one.

The leds themselves were the genuine maker or well faked and the heatsink looked sustantial , the power supplies are adequate but a bit old fashioned being decades old in design , wireing and fan issues let them down a bit and not everyone is willing to play with electrics.

There is not a huge difference between them in practice , and as they only light the footprint of the caseing and you probably wont get exactly what you order anyway , might as well decide fro China on cost per square meter , like carpets.

Are you Having to Use any External Heat Sources DankDemon?
I suppose you definitely will in the Winter
