good strain for vert

hey guys im getting ready to set myself up here...gonna be building 2 6x6x6 areas and using a 1000 watt light in each to make a doughnut grow....ill be starting with seeds so that i can select the best mother...the strains im considering using are all from next gen. seed company- dynamite, ny purple diesel, and grapefruit diesel...im really leaning towards the dynamite b/c it is a very heavy yielder and fast finisher...however it is mostly indica and only about 25% sativa therefore it only stretches about one foot when put into flower...and tends to be more of a squat and bushy plant...the other two strains are fast flowering for a sativa but will ultimately be slower to finish than dynamite....since they are both hybrids but primarily sativa...i will be growing two of the strains but (one in each area) but i would like to know which type of strains people have had the best experiences with in this setup...thanks! -cc

I bought some of the grapefruit diesel from NextGen and I will not be a repeat customer. Out of a full pack, 2 sprouted, 1 turned into a mutant and one runt made it to harvest. it was a good smoke but not worth the trouble at all.

Hybrids are best for donuts unless you're running tiny plants stacked vertically in columns. You want something with a lot of stretch, at least 2, but preferably closer to 2.5-3x stretch. Read a little bit and you'll find that these are the kind of plants the successful vert growers on here use. Lots of c99 and ssh crosses out there that could be really nice.

I'd personally stay away from Sweet tooth/grapefruit for vert unless its crossed with something stretchy. None of the iterations of SWT that i grew out ever stretched much for me, though I loved the plants.

All your answers are here in the vert forum though, i f you bother to read a few of the threads.

One of the most important things you should strongly consider, is strain selection.
I try to pick strains that have a nice healthy stretch to them. The way I grow, the stretch helps when it comes time to train the plants into a "wall of weed" which is what all vert growers strive for. Unless you are growin in a sog stadium format, like NorthernFarmer, short indica's can be frustrating in a vert setup.

I also find it best to select a strain that can take a good amount of trimming (defoliation) and still be productive. I have found many diesel and kush genetics can thrive in these conditions. They're resistance to fan leaf removal works well with the golf balls diesels like to form. Pics? Sure.....

Here is a Diesel/Kush hybrid at 50ish days of flower. All the fan leaves have been removed, except those coming directly out of a bud, and she hasn't been negatively affected by it. The removal of the leaves allows for more of the inner nugs to chunk up

^That thread is a sticky right at the top of the forum. I'd highly recommend reading these to see what works for others.

thanks for the info guys...yes i have read all of the stickies including that one...and as much info as i could find...the one prob is there is so much info out there...that it is hard to narrow down which is really the best and which is not...i was thinking of going with blue dream...yield is my main concern and that seems to be a good strain with a decent stretch...any other suggestions from personal experiences are greatly appreciated!

first tracks is on the money with the stretchers. I am doing a c-99 cross now that I'm happy with. most diesels are stretchers. right now I'm also growing rare dankness scott's o g and wifi, both look to be fit for my vert set ups. I am also running a headband cut someone gave me that is blowing my mind as far as swellage, ive never grown such huge colas as these headbands are producing. I usually get decent size buds from top to bottom, but these headbands are really impressive. good luck!

If you do a stadium setup you can utilize both sativa and indica. Short stout plants can go on the bottom level and your stretchy plants can go on the second level.

Also remember it is as simple as stacking a plant on an upside down pot or other object to boost it up to the desired height.

Once you have chosen your keepers and know their growth habits it will be much easier to plan things out but till then just adjust and rearrange them to fill up your space efficiently.

I just got done with c99 and it was perfect for vertical growing. I have even done sensi star trees with great success. You just have to do some training, pruning, and longer veg.

hey which breeders c99 did you use? is the sensi star by delicious seeds version? i have spent all night looking and looking and looking...so many hybrid strains...im really trying to find a nice balance...for me....i would like the veg time to be no more than 4 wks...and the flowering time 8-9 at the most...once i get the technique down and moms selected i would like to have 4 set ups going in total...so production value is of key importance for me...if anyone can recommend some specific strains that are proven to do well in donut type set ups that would be great...as there are so many out there...and not a ton of info on a lot of good sounding ones!

I'm currently liking nebula from paradise seeds, nice stretch easy to grow excellent yield and really tasty indica dom smoke that's very popular with friends. You get serious colas next to a big light.

Diesels and OGs are amazing to smoke but a lot of hassle to grow in vert cos of floppy stems and such, chem dog is perfect though. Once you have a couple of vert grows under your belt and get familiar with the pruning needed you can grow anything in vert, just need to know your clones.

my first strain, and the one I grow most bc I know it so well, is g13 pineapple express. I lucked out with it being perfect for vert as it was the only thing I had access to when I started out. I would not have chosen it, but I'm glad that it fell in my lap bc it has been good to me. I've heard many people talk shit about pe because of its questionable origins and what not, but she's been good to me.

Im also growing the Pineapple Express on my first vert grow, mainly cos its (supposedly) unfukable and its a good yielder.I just switched to 12/12,so don't know what the stretchings like yet.

thanks for all the imput guys...i wanna do 3 different strains so i can see which yields highest and then select a mom from that group...i would be doing 2 8 plant donuts...so far i think i will go with nebula...pineapple express and DP's euforia....all of those seem to be decent hybrids with good yields...its nice to see some good stuff about PE im excited to run it!...as i said before high yield is what im most concerned about...unfortunately with my current job i cannot smoke as im subject to random tests :(

I had excellent results from true clone only Chem D if you`ve got access to it CC.....

Good luck with your other choices...I`ve seen some huge colas outta Nebula over the yrs......anyways.....

Peace....DHF.....:ying:.....

hey DHF ...wish i did...unfortunately i do not live in a non-med. friendly state...however im excited about nebula...ive grow amnesia and galaxy from paradise seeds....and was very happy with their stuff so im excited to give nebula a run...hoping to find a pheno that has a decent stretch and can finishing in 60-65 days...i have a feeling i am going to have to play around with plant numbers once i get a mom selected and can run one strain of uniform plants...for me finding the perfect balance will be a max veg time of 4 wks...with at least 32 oz per 1000k light....i would rather do a few more plants say 10-12 if i could cut the veg time even by a week...than few plants that i have to veg. for 5+ wks in order to get the same amt.
