Like the title says I fucked up... I now know what I did wrong though and will not make the same mistake again...

So the Top Nugs from my recent harvest have mold on the insides... i'll post a few pics so you guys can see.... I tried manually focusing on the mold but I suck at focusing and it is not a zoom lense...

So what is the safest way to make use of these buds? I think the two most common answers will be BHO and throw it out/compost. Lol

I won't be making BHO and there are too many damn crystals to just let it compost!

I have an old clogged up grinder I was going to clean out with isopropyl and collect the ISO hash...

These buds would deff need to be broken down to be extracted in anyway... so should I grind them in the old grinder before or after I clean it with the ISO? I am thinking after... and then clean it again after but don't collect any of the waste for possible hash...

What does everyone think of this? Sorry if this is in the wrong forum MODS. Feel free to move it whereever you think it belongs..

I would not smoke anything made from moldy bud. I know others will say differently, but that's my personal opinion. Mold can make you very sick.

I would grind it all up and make a nice QWISO.

I think a good coffee filter at the end would clean thinks up nicely!

I always use Coffee Filters for QWISO... should I grind it up before or after I clean the grinder though?

Looks like Botrytis (might be wrong though), and if it is then it doesnt produce mycotoxins and should be alright for BHO, but the end product will taste moldy. You can dissolve the end BHO in ethanol, and filter that through a .2ug syringe filter to remove the mold spores and the associated foul taste

If it were me though i would not vape it and instead make a topical of some sort

Like I said... I'm not making BHO...

Who said anything about vaping? And could you give me an example of what kind of topical?

Well In theory yes I want to smoke/ingest it... but only the good part... I don't just want to smoke the moldy buds... I want to extract the THC and leave the mold behind... and then smoke the Hash that results....

I was talking about vaping (dabbing, etc) the resulting filtered hash oil. But from personal experience i dont think it is worth your time.

thanks... I will give it away to someone who wants to make BHO out of it then... I don't smoke BHO anyway...

oil and hash are made from the same active ingredient, i.e. the trichome heads and stalks. so if you make oil you will not have anything worthwhile left to make hash.

you could use the buds to make bubble hash and just take every bag to the shower and wash your hash on the screen in the bubble bag, with the shower head really well with water as cold as pos, till there is no more grey shimmer on the pile of hash on the screen, you move the shower head around using the water pressure to move the trichomes around so the get power washed. then you can make oil with that hash and you will have a clean product, even better if you winterize the oil too. although already the bubble hash will be good if you do a good job. always scoop off the top layer of water before pulling your bags, as the pm will float.

edited to add: forget this, it applies to powdery mildew, not so much to moldy buds, i'd throw away the worst moldy bits and use the rest to make hash or oil.

thanks gaiusmarius... lol I don't want to make Hash AND oil... just asking which would be safer... I WISH I had bubblebags! I can't find them anywhere but online and I have nowhere to have them shipped to...

Anyway final plan is throw away the very moldy stuff and then make QWISO out of the rest like gaiusmarius suggested...

just so everyone knows... I grew it fine... it was in the drying/curing process when it developed mold... I have learned from the experience though and now know to always have a dedicated area for drying...

I've always lived in the south, actually on or near the gulf coast so I have always had humidity problems and the best way I found to cure was to wrap small amounts, 1/2oz size bundles, and place in front of a fan , running 24/7 till things were dry enough and then everything went into the freezer. Never had any problems with curing or mold. Don't know for sure but I think that the constantly moving air in the grow closet and drying area prevents mold . Worked for me anyway but that was a long time ago.

"safest way to make use of moldy bud?"

-BURN IN GARBAGE PILE

-Grow clean weed.

This^^^...However depending on the type of mold and whether or not it contains alfatoxins and mycotoxins will determine if its salvagable. You can extract with butane and dissolve the bho in either 99% isopropyl or 190 proof ethanol and filter threw .2 micron syringe filter to remove the spores.

Either way fuck moldy material its garbage in my mind regardless of the type of mold.

Check out skunkpharm for salvaging information

If it molded during curing, odds are good that it is a composting mold like Aspergillus, as opposed to a mold that grows on living things like PM and Botrytis.

That is not a good thing, because Aspergillus does produce an aflatoxin, which can't be removed by filtration and can be pernicious

You can tell for sure by looking at it under a microscope. They named it Aspergullus after the water flinger used in religious ceremonies, so look for a shaft with a ball of spores on the end.

Only one piece looked heavily molded... I threw that away and used all the other nugs around it that had no visual mold on it for the QWISO. I'll post some pics tonight or tomorrow..
