been harvesting jalapeños from my several year old bushes for a few weeks allready, they seem to grow jalapeños before they even grow leaf after the winter :D

also my rocotos are full of mature fruits allready..

btw, has anyone tried to make a thick concentrated sauce with rocotos? its gets an really nice texture from all the juicy flesh, and the flavour is just so damn good :D

peace!

This here is the pepper from above.
Looks a bit different than the Jalapenos from last year.
Is it possible it was crossed with some of other pepper near by ?

This is a Habanero plant putting some flowers.

Did a little training on those Trinidat scorpions.
Will see if those smaller branches develop.

Those are 3 other Habanero plants that I tried to train a little.
Will see if a nice canopy forms (;

That seems to be cross-pollinated, doesn't look like a jalapeno should look. You used seeds from last year's peppers or bought them?

I used seeds from my peppers in the past and had no cross-pollination, but I had no other peppers close by. There's always the possibility that an insect or the wind could carry some pollen to your pepper's flowers, but they usually self pollinate before the flowers open or soon after.. (btw you can pollinate them by hand just after they open their flowers so you're almost sure you'll get same strain when you plant those seeds.)

congrats on your peppers guys. can't wait to post some pics myself.

b4 last years 1st frost, I dug up a few ghost's and over-wintered em in my greenhouse room.

put em outside in mid may, some already flowering... we picked a few last weekend, but the fruits are way/way small.. maybe 1/10 the size of a normal ghost ...the size of a large blueberry.. the hotness...WOW.... I would say even hotter then last years ghost's..
don't know why we even grow em... toooo hot to eat raw... can't cook with em... but they are fun to grow...

Hey bonecarver, do you have a recipe for your rocoto sauce, I just started a bunch and would love to try it out?

Peace

i just boil them in some water untill they almost disolve, then i force it thru a sieve. i avoid using blenders etc since they will cut up the seeds etc and make a worse sauce.

i boil down the water/chili mix untill its thick, then i add vinegar and boil down again to the consistency i want, sieve with force and make sure all meat gets scraped of the skins. jar it.

for longtime storage, put the jar withour lid but almost full with sauce in the microwave oven, heat carefully untill you have a boil going on (be carefull, can make a mess!) take out the jar, put the lid on looselly at first, tighten when lids are hot, turn the jar upside down and leave to cool down. this last steps pasteurizes the lid.

like this i dont have to clean out the seeds before i do the sauce, wich helps when i have several kilos to go thru!

harvested yesterday 2 shoppingbags full from my rocotos :) they are insanelly productive. they really like the climate down here..

peace!

some mild droughts thru flowering, after the fruits start developing, and lots of PK fert once flowers develop will make most peppers very spicy. but jalapenos are low to mild heat, maybe you need some habanerros or scorps.

You can't get ham from a cow. The jalapenos are only so hot and no hotter...they are what they are. :tiphat:

I eat alot of jalapenos so I know what to expect in the heat depart. They are not as hot as they should be. I have some in soil so I will compare . They are all from the same seed pack.

and here is my first scorp I harvested yesterday:

(I know I harvested a bit early, but I do this at the start of the season to prolong the harvesting season.)

So far this year only my jalapeño is producing well, and they've all been hot. Need to find a good fert for the ghost peppers, I'm getting lots of flowers but no fruit.

That's normal for the ghost pepper. You need some PK nutrient. After that just wait, the small light green peppers are hard to differentiate from the foliage, they always surprise me once they grow a bit.

Out of curiosity i harvested the biggest pepper from my monkey face and choc habanero. I hung them up on a string so they can ripen in the sun, lets see if they change color :)

I have a bunch of plants still in seedling/veg stage, 4 to 8 pairs of leaves, 5" max. They are in full soil in greenhouse since 7 days. The mature pepper plants are full on budding. Will these start budding soon or did I start them too late?
