Hello everybody downunder:tiphat:,
a female friend of mine goes study to the tasmanian university for 6 month. Maybe you´ve got some tips or advices, what she can do there, visit pretty locations, discotheques? She don´t smokes weed, no weed tips please.

If anybody got an idea, I say thank you.

G'day Herman!

Tasmania is not part of Australia. it is a cold dark place across a stormy sea far to the South. we Australians hear that the people in Tasmania have TWO HEADS! they live off shellfish and roam the forest there wrapped in animal furs. your friend should come to Australia where the sun shines ...

just joking. I 'm sure there are some very nice people in Tasmania. I even know one or two. your Friend will LOVE her visit!

Us Taswegians are indeed born with two heads....
They do however remove the most normal and intelligent one before we start our schooling, where we learn to make clothing from wombat skins, and how to gather fern roots, seagull eggs and of course the shellfish which we enjoy so very much!
I myself only wear clothing made from bracken ferns and dwell inside a hollow log....others hide in holes in the ground and some nest in the trees in abandoned possum nests so as to act as lookouts for the rest of us as we forage for grubs and insects.

Tasmania is a really nice place Herman....especially if she likes nature and the outdoors. I cannot speak from my own experience, but I have met people from both New Zealand and Canada/Alaska that have compared our little Island to their own homelands in regards do both our environmental diversity and beauty.
As far as things to visit whilst here...
She will be based in Hobart I assume (as that is where the main Uni is located) So she will get to experience Salamanca Market which is held every Saturday on the Waterfront, which is a wonderful area full of cafe's, pubs, restaurants and such. She may even be able to get a little taste of home there as one of the stall vendors used to sell the 'BEST' Bratwurst i that have ever eaten!
It is not a very large place Tasmania...realistically you can drive around its entirety in a matter of hours. I would recommend that the best way to see our lovely little slice of eden is to just get in a car and go for an explore!

Most of the places i would recommend for a visitor can all be found in the following link - http://www.discovertasmania.com.au/

Hello, :tiphat:
thank you for the funny answers! Oh, Tasmanians got two heads, I thouhgt they look like hobbits?
When she comes to Tasmania, there is wintertime, not the best time of the year but mainly she´s there to study. Her boyfriend comes for 2 weeks also and than they take a car and drive around.
Hell, the voyage takes 36 hours from here.

No worries Herman....Us Tasmanian's are a funny lot!

I have a very good friend who works at the Uni....funnily enough, his job is dealing with orientating foreign students, setting them up with accommodation and such. When your friend arrives perhaps i could ask him if he would maybe mind showing her around Hobart?

Hobbits!!!

Man....we got more body hair than dwarfs and hobbits combined....and our holes in the ground are not nearly as nicely furnished!

My friend is down in Tasmania now and she like Hobbart very much, it´s wintertime but the weather is good. I asked her what winter in Tasmania means in a german month, she said it´s like May or June in northern Germany.

But funny how small the world is sometimes. A fellow worker of mine lived for a year near (for australian sizes, far for european sizes :)) Brisbane. And now the daugther of the guestfamily is here and visits my fellowworker, she is driving the big trucks in the coalmines in Australia. I met her last weekend and she is born tasmanian!!

good morning Herman!

what you say is a phenomenon Carl Jung (almost a countryman of yours) named "Synchronicity".

there are no such thing as Coincidences!

Peace ...

(Oh yes ... wanted to tell you not to pay any attention to Noyd 666. he's been living in Tasmania for such a long time that he can't think straight. such a Looooong Time. altho I hear he's not yet in a wheelchair.)

and "... tip top" is a brand of white bread. when you eat it you have to make a note in yr diary to remind yourself you've eaten ... it is SO crappy! it is the stuff that if you feed it to rats they die of malnutrition. ha ha it is VERY popular among humans n Tasmania!

He he, I think you tasmanians are funny guys, about my simple english I never know if you are kidding or write something serious.

Yeah, its funny if your mind is playing tricks on you (me), I think so too, that there are no coincidences. Especially if your falling in a fresh love, you think everything is a wonder(coincidense) but everything can be explained.
