What's the best stuff?

I never liked any of those spring loaded scissors, they make your hands cramp up waaay too quickly. It requires more energy to close them than it does to open/close a good pair of scissors. I have multiple pairs of 5" Fiskars Stitchers for trimming. One of the more expensive scissors ($17) but they have a really fine tip and open and close like a dream. Once you get the hang of it you hardly need to move your hand. The only downside is they get loose after a while and there is no screw to adjust the blade tension.

Lots of good info in this thread though, enough to start a shopping list for sure. Anyone else here sharpen their scissors? I've been using a cheap two slot fillet knife sharpener to mixed results. Sharp scissors make trimming a lot more bearable. So what's the best scissor sharpening system?

Also, I own one of those beer hats, mine has a mini megaphone w/bonus siren and let me tell you the siphon effect is a vicious mistress. If you want to drink 2 beers very quickly through 1/4" ID tubing then that hat is the shit. I took it out to parties a few times when I was younger and always ended up puking. People would always give me beer to see how the hat worked so I'd basically puke for free which is cool I guess.

Spyderco Sharpmaker

This is a really great blade sharpening kit. It will also work with scissors, although I have never personally used it with scissors. It makes my knives sharp enough to shave with.

I'll try it on my oldest pair of fiskars when I get a chance.

That's quite a bit of kit there AK. Let me know how it works on your old fiskars and I'll add it to my list. I find the angle of the bevel on the scissors makes it hard to get a good edge on my cheap plastic sharpener.

Hey thanks Granger that might be why the blades on my 2 year old pair of fiskars have gotten so loose. I did some googling and sounds like there are a few ways that you can sharpen them at home without screwing them up. Guess I got an old pair to try them out on so I'll check back in and let everyone know what I came up with.

Review: Bucket Head Wet/Dry Vacuum- $23 bucks

Just got mine at Home Depot 4 days ago. If you read thru the reviews on their site the low reviews are almost always people that are expecting too much [uhhh...Price?].

People who want to vacuum up piles of sawdust are unhappy. People who want to pick up liquids are happy. Yes it tips over easy, except when it has just a little water in it.

I want it to do 1 job. I want to quickly, easily vac up runoff water/org. nutes. It excels at that. I'm happy. I suggest the extension tube. Saves the spine. Vacs up the water fast. Leaves? SS-TH-LOOP!

Best 23 bucks I've spent in years. Huge labor saver. I'd give it 3 thumbs up, if I had 3. -granger

i will reccomend insulated duct work. not only for heating and cooling reasons but if you wanna stealth up an inline just use insulated ductwork and on the 6" it makes them damn near silent. build a box for the fan and insulate that AND use the ducting and you will be silent as can be.

i plumb in my central with it and very little cooling is lost with the insulation. also traps heat on on the way out of hoods.

second nomination is twist ties from the produce section at grocery stores. i cut them in half and use them to attach branches to my scrog cages. works very well and when you are ready to harvest just give a light tug on the branch and they pop right off!

That reminds me of the little plastic tabs with label that they have in bulk goods section. The ones you write the code of the organic mission figs or chocolate covered blueberries. At harvest, I tag each sizable bud or branch because I've had a few problems in the past with buds getting mixed up during drying. I usually grab a crapload, and put them in a produce bag with some produce, and buy them at the pound price of the produce. Cheap and no squawking from store. -granger

Ball 1/2 Gallon Mason Jars

This is the best volume-per-dollar vacuum sealable container I can find. I can find them at the supermarket sometimes for $12 per 6 pack - cheap enough to give away if it is expedient. They comfortably hold 3 oz, but you can jam at least 4 in there if you want. I like to cure in a vacuum; I imagine that it helps retard mold growth if the product still has some residual moisture. Doing it vacuum sealed also helps with burping. If you open the jar and then re-vacuum-seal it you have just exchanged virtually 100% of the air.
