Colorado To Split Into Two States! North Colorado Would Be The 51st State!

In this very interesting development we have learned that Colorado is now mulling splitting apart into two states over divisions over Colorado’s new gun laws.

Officials in eight northern Colorado counties united in opposition to the state’s new gun control laws and oil and gas regulations are reportedly considering forming a 51st U.S. state called North Colorado.

The Denver Post reports that a proposal to separate Weld, Morgan, Logan, Sedgwick, Phillips, Washington, Yuma and Kit Carson counties from the rest of the state was hatched at a meeting of county commissioners last week

I wonder if this is sour grapes? The process to secede is very long and hard. Taxing authority and money enter into it also. I hope it sends a message to the capitol that all the gun stuff they shoved through might make more sense in urban states but not in a rural state like Colorado. When the Constitution was written in 1789, the most advanced firearms were muzzle loading black powder flintlocks, and few of them had rifled barrels. Repeaters & breech loaders were rare novelties. The percussion cap wasn't invented until ~1830.

It's impossible to say what the Framers would have thought about modern firearms, because they were simply inconceivable at the time.

Context matters, and that was the context of the times. A strict interpretation of the Constitution would merely grant people the right to carry such weapons, because that's what they were talking about, that's what they knew.

Which is not to say that I advocate such, but rather to say that literalists need to be careful when going on about gun rights if they want to be taken seriously.
