greetings to the micro-growers comunity of icmag :tiphat:

recently i started my second grow of this kind ,i`m trying out a S.O.G. using CFLs and just got a little bit delayed on starting a thread , but you guys didn`t miss much...

a little presentation of the cab :

- cab dimmensions : 35 cm (1.14 feet) Width ; 48 cm, (1.57feet) Lenght and 70 cm (2.29 feet) Height , all walls painted in plain white ;

- lightning : 2 x 125 W Eco-Lights CFLs ( 2700K red & 6400K blue spectrum ) which i put on a DIY reflector & for adjustment i use Easy rools (which i found out to be really helpfull) ;

- ventilation : 3 x 80mm PC case fans - outtake and 2 x 80mm intake , also the outtake goes through a DIY carbon filter ;

and some pictures :

1 front of the cab: 2 back of the cab(carbon filter): 3 outtake & easy roolz:

what s in the cab ?

what s in the cab ?

so let me show you what i ve got...:artist:
i started with 19 seeds : 7 Mr Nice - Critical Mass - regular ; 7 Mr Nice - Early Skunk (Early Pearl x Skunk) ; 3 GHS - The Church - feminized and the big dissapointment : 1 Flying Dutchmen - GForce - fem , which didn`t germinate :( .... + 1 The Church seed that i found in my outdoor crop :) i`m looking forward to find out the sex of this plant , since it s the only seed that i found in my outdoor feminised the church plants that i ve grown last year.

i always keep track of the exact date i plant & when the plants show themselfs from the soil ... but this time i was busy with other stuff in my life , so i have just an aproximation of how old the plats are.

some photos :

day 1 : day 5: day 9:

day 11:

the plan was to flower them from seed with 12 / 12 , but i gave them aprox 18 hours of light/day , for almost the whole first week .

Today (day 15) i transplanted them in bigger pots , not that big really :) , the lights have been switched to 12/12 4 days ago , and also ajusted to aprox 15 cm away from the plants and they started streching.

As you can see i was left with 15 plants , only 2 feminised . I hope they ll show sex in 1 week (after 21 days in total) cause it s getting really crowded , and also i hope i ll have at least 9 females :whistling: .
I m planning on keeping 1 critical mass & 1 early skunk males , which i ll keep in a different place , for obtaining some polen and getting some seeds out of some of the girls , for obtaining my first crosses :)

pictures :

before transplantation : &right after :D :

some random root ball shots :

and the nutes i ll be using , but only after the bud sites form :

this is all for now , i ll post an update at the end of the week ,

only one important question : 2 of the PC coolers have 3 Green LEDS / each , which don t have a separate power cable so the leds are on all the time , even during dark cycle... will this light affect the plants and cause them not to flower ?

peace out :wave:

l.e. forgot to mention : i started the seeds in CompoSana and transplanted them in Plangron Bat Mix

If it were my cab, I would remove the green lights. Better safe than sorry kinda thing.

the problem is that the leds don`t have a separate power cable ... and the fans are glued there , i mean reeallyy glued :) , and i don t know how to take them out...

green leds on fans

green leds on fans

When I used to run my green led pc fans 24/7, I saw no ill effects due to green leds. Multiple grows. No hermies.

my .02 - If lights out temps aren't an issue, might want to consider turning all fans off when lights go out. (micro grow experience)

my pc fan: cool master 120mm green led 90cfm
yours look like it puts out my lums via led.

thanks thinkin ,
i think i need at least 1 fan on 24/7 .
so , i ll have to buy a second 12v power distribution transformer so i can just let the other extractor fan on (the one that doesn t have leds).
i ll solve the problem by tommorow.

If you're really paranoid about the LED's you can always trace the power leads to them & cut them. Personally I would just put the filter BEFORE the fans, that way it also keeps the fans from getting dusty/dirty. The filter would also bock light from the fans if it was put in front of them as well.

The more air circulation I have the happier the plants are in my experience, it's pretty hard to move enough air to cause a problem from it using axial fans.

I really like the lights you are using, we've had a few about the house for a few years now. The lifespan is excellent, but the base of the lamp can build up some decent heat & fry itself if it's not getting enough airflow past it just fyi.

as i said , the fans don t have an extra wire that powers the leds , just the 2 wires that power the fan + & - . but this problem is solved :) , i ll just let 1 outake fan on during lights out , the one that doesn t have leds.

i ve put the filter outside the cab to save space , because there isn t much and i also think if the fans are put in front of the filter the extraction is more efficient , but it s only a thought :)

i also like the lights , hope they le help to produce some nice buds :) , i ve got 2 fans blowing on the bulbs too , hope it will help cooling them ... i m kind of wondering if they do cool them or just spread the heat around in the cab...

They do cool them AND spread heat around the cabinet arigog. If you remove heat from the lights, it has to go someplace. It will tend to stay at the top of the cabinet unless you have fans pointed down.

I dont think that the green will effect them I was told to use a green light during dark times becuase the plants do not use that wavelength, so you might be fine.

looks good gotta love pc fans for us micro growers

update - almost 3 weeks

update - almost 3 weeks

hello guys , big thanks to all for stoping by!

i know that green light is not absorbed by chlorophyll and that it s used for checking the plants during dark period , but these leds could be white , and the green colour maybe is obtained by the green plastic of the fans , and could not be the exact green spectrum of light that plants don t aborb , so it`s not worth the risc.
so the green lighted fans are now turned off during lights out, case closed :)

the plants are almost 3 weeks old now ,they have responded very well to the tranplantation , and bursted just after that.
no signs of sex yet , they look mature enough to start flowering , im expecting to find out in max 3 days.
