New PC Grow Build - Need Advice!!

LOL at the cat box odor solution. I think your cats would revolt much earlier than 8 weeks though :D

You're still early in the process so you have time to figure this filter thing out. My DIY efforts yielded mixed results: The Red Greenery rubbermaid filter worked well for my first grow, however it was big, unwieldy and the carbon bed tended to shift around. That made areas thinner than others, using it up more quickly. The standard "attach ball of carbon wrapped in nylon to 120mm fan" sort of worked, but the airflow was reduced to almost nothing, and the carbon would always shift due to gravity and vibration.

My suggestion is get yourself the smallest can-style filter you can buy, and jimmy rig some 120mm ducting to push air into it. Then you can hide it wherever you want, and get rid of 100% of the smell. The peace of mind you get with good odor control is worth it, trust me.

Thanks guys .. lots of help and something to consider.
I'm at day 8 and nothing as popped through the soil. I've got two seeds left from the 5 pack I bought, and thinking of starting over with those.

I woke up this morning to cloudy skies, rain, and just a yucky spring day. I went about my normal routine (shit, shower and shave), and then checked on my girls and to my surprise - two of them have sprouted!! I was just about to germinate my two remaining seeds and give up on the three I had planted. I'm soooo happy!

Now I'm nervous, I know I have to let them veg for a bit, but not really sure how long. I was debating on doing 12/12 only because I heard this flowers quicker and I though this might give me a better idea on how to take care of them. Should I keep them on 18/6 and switch to 12/12 when they are ready?

Any ideas?

id let them veg a bit let it get to like 4-6 inches tall few sets of leaves then flower it. unless ur in a rush. i think u will get a better idea of how things go if u see more of her.

I wouldn't say in a rush, more excited.
I think I'll let them get a bit bigger. If both the plants are female, I think I'll need to get a second/bigger box.
I need to pick up a spray bottle, I think at this point I should avoid pouring water directly on the soil, I may even add more soil in the cup in the next day or so.
I will take your advice and let her veg for a few to 4 weeks and lst her down.

Alright guys .. I had a big fear that my girls were dying on me, I checked on them last night and they were looking pretty brown.
This morning I woke up and my girls were green and I could see them stretching to the light! The temp at night is high 60's and the humidity is in the high 40's, should I get a humidifier in there? Maybe a heater?

Here they are:

how close are them to the bulb? keep them only centimeters away if you don't want them to stretch.

good luck!

looks nice so far..

shouldnt be a problem being 3 inches away.. the cfl would more than likely melt the plastic cup

good luck !

they should be as close as you can keep them to the plants tops without them feeling the excessive heat from the bulb. you can test the hotness by putting the backside of your palm under the bulb. if you don;t feel the bulb heat, that;s a good spot for the plant tops to be. i'd keep them closer, at around 1 inch, if heat isn't a problem in your cab.

Hey Exploziv - that's exactly the rule of thumb I was using .. keeping them nice and close. I checked on the girls this morning, and it's really hard not to sit there and stare at them - they are beautiful!

Update - June 5 Day 2

Update - June 5 Day 2

Hey guys ..
Here is my day 2 update. This is day 2 since I transplanted. One of the girls is getting a little brown on the leaf, I'm hoping it's just from the transplant and will go away.
I've switched lights, not have 2 x 46W 2700 and 1 x 46W 6500 CFL.
Let me know what you think!

Day 3 - Arjan Haze #3

Day 3 - Arjan Haze #3

Alright guys .. here's today's update. Looks like the growth is happening nicely. The temp was in the low 90's last night and the humidity was mid to high 30's. I added another cup of water in there to help increase the humidity a little, I may have to pick up a humidifier to help.

I think they are looking good for day four since transplant into their final home. I was reading about FIM'ing, and I think I read somewhere that you should do it after the fourth node - is that correct?
