lol, yeah, the plants called, they said "dont care, you didnt get xmas off,so get crackin!"

just put up the side panels on the front coldframe, just taking a personal hydration break before cutting the screens for the triangly bits and the top.think i will convert the doors into an awning over the cactus in the smaller pots so that when we do get rain later on they will be protected from a deluge from the roof, may be time to think about rain gutters and work the yard so i keep the bulk of what little rain does fall here...a little clever sloping and a few strategic gravel filled pits plus another large stacked rock wall/berm with a couple trees out front to provide some shade and wind break should create enough shadowed ground area to make a sort of water reserve...

That pot came out beautifully! You've got a knack. How many times did ya have to rearrange the colorful stones until you were satisfied? Id get a lil OCD.

Would you be lining those pits with something before you put the gravel in? Or is the idea to use the water right away before it can seep out?

the idea would be to get the water into the ground before it ran into the street,so i would dig the pit and fill it but then bury it,all i want is the water to stay in the ground....

not my first bowl garden, just the largest i have built, sorry, but the colored rocks are more or less randomly placed...

you would crap yourself with the landscaping then, theres really no plan going on with that! i just get high and start digging....

Heya again uncle, you inspired me to do some xeriscaping, i like the big pots with stones. can you tell me what should i look for that should grow well that way? I may not find great variety with store bought plants around here, are there any that grow well from seeds?

succulents and cactus are generally speaking notoriously slow to grow from seed, and theres no reason it has to be succelents, the same thing could be done with any type of plant really.there are several mail order companies, most of those plants came from cactuscollection.com.its mainly echeverias, sempervivums, crassula and a sedum or two in the dish garden....theres a few places that specialize in sempervivum which should survive the winter almost no matter where you live, and they come in a wild assortment of forms and colors...

finally got around to putting up the side pieces on the coldframe and putting some screen up,i think im going to be glad i went with a white panel as opposed to something clearer, will just have to see how things perform....its all temporary in the long run,the kits for a curved front glass double pane greenhouse isnt that much....

the summer heat is setting in already, aside from a few of the flowers everything seems to be well established...im especially pleased with the local cactus,go figure, the native species do really well in a cultivated setting! lol,the nice thing about being dumb is even simple things can make you happy!
any way, sort of surprised to see some of the cuttings and transplanted cactus setting flowers, but once again i 'spose it makes sense given what master survivors cactus are...there are a few store bought cactus i thought i had killed and just went ahead and planted out and said live or die cactus, its up to you....all of them have bounced back out in the full sun and sand...once again...duh and or go figure....

so heres a little opuntia madness, both in ground natives and some of the potted cactus that are buried in the landscaping which will go back indoors come winter but are thriving in the full sun.
