Catapillar Killer

Catapillar Killer

[In this] Country...It's real early to have budworm problems. Here's what I do. There is a fungus that only attacks catterpillars. Called baccillius something or other. Not a poison. It causes the fuckers to rot from the inside out. Kinda karmic if you ask me. Follow lable directions. Spray once a month. Works best when the plant is in vege. It won't get them all, but almost all. If you can break the worm life cycle 90% of the damage will not happen.

Mr Sterling...no shit...budworms will find your best top and wreck it every time. What they are is moth larve.

The bacteria is called Bacillus Thuringiensus. Its a suspension of spores that hatch when diluted and sprayed on the plant. Soon after they eat it with leaf they stop eating and then die. The bacteria causes the worms intestines to dissolve by secreting and enzyme. It only attacks moth larvae and other leaf eating catipillars. Dosen't kill other bugs like predictor wasps or lady bugs. Leaves all animals and humans unaffected. A good thing.

Roof the motherfucker; roof it now!

Woke up this a.m with nothing to do but have bake, thought to myself i wonder whats going on in the world of IC haven't been by in a while. A quick search later and it turns out OH is back on the road so I settled in for a read, having caught up on the happenings past and present I took a wander down to the shed to make up for the time lost in April when we had nothing but Siberian easterlies which woulda savaged any attempted starts, three hundred litres of soil mixed and 45 Church X U.K. Cheese seeds in the dvd case later I sat down to refresh the bake.

Whats the point of all this??? Your a fucking inspiration.. Good luck with the season I'll be hanging round trying to keep my jaw of the floor.

OH They are trying to throw you off. Talked with a buddy who lives down by the ocean and He saw them Monday and they flew his house Tues at 3:45. I've been on BI from 79 and have never seen this type of ops. Hope they go Maui soon.

I'm wondering if GH flies the east sides in the morning and the west sides in the afternoon, keeping the sun at their back for the element of surprise and because the ground might have better light at those times. I don't recall getting flown in the morning where I'm at. It's usually early afternoon. Anyone else notice a set pattern?

Well DB...looks like both of us got our wish.

There heeere...do that in my best spooky little girl voice.

Two choppers... the silver one and the yellow one were doing their thing the last couple of days. They barely bothered me. Both times they came up here as the clouds were closing in. They didn't want to chance flying into the hill...so away they went.

Didn't matter a bit. The rain has already did to me what GH would have liked to. Seems all the rain we didn't have over winter fell in the last couple of weeks. Close to eight inches total....over the last seventeen days only two were sunny.

But who's counting? What's a little rain?

The trades came back this evening so conditions will now change...but it has been one hell of a wet spell. Lost a couple of clones...next weeks harvest is gone....if it dries up now two more will be salvagable.

Not gone...it's just a little mold.

Waaaa....Fucked by nature....waaaa.

picture.php

One plant was covered with my little roof....that didn't work. It forstalled the rot an extra couple of days.

The plants from seed are pushing four feet. Anything not in full flower loves the rain. I should get a nice jump out of them thanks to the rain.

picture.php

So...Green Harvest is done...or damn close to it. If the weather changes...and it should...the plants inground now should be ready and taken before the next GH. Summer is out there.

Festi....I've seen them fly here in both the morning and afternoon. I'm sure they have some master plan...I'd bet weather has something to do with it. Since they have to coordinate with the ground crew it's probably done by district.

DB, JOJO....you guys are in the clear.

Elsweeto....A roof would need walls...and a dehumidifier or two...Very few strains can stand up to two weeks of the slop weather we have had. Even the deck plants we bring inside look like crap.

Life goes on.

OH Sounds like you have had Puna weather. With GH, is 3 days on Maui enough, or will they come back like they did on BI? DB

Sucks about the weather OH, but you're probably ready for a break in the action by now anyway.

The last three days have been great. Sunny and dry. Seems my mood improved with the weather. Funny the way that works.

Instead of another cold front digging down toward us....full of liquid sunshine....and more messed up plants....a big fat high has set up shop to the northeast of the islands. Tradewinds 15-25 MPH as long as it sits. It should be there all week. When it moves off another is waiting to take its place.

Summer weather. Gotta love it. Once that High pressure gets in place...it stays there...and we slip into this summer weather grove. About the only chance of a big rain will come with a tropical storm attached. And NOAA says this hurricane season will be light with an estimated three named storms of any size in the Central Pacific.

The rain did some good. Everything is green and growing. The Bloody Black Thai plants in the gulch...see? Just made that name up....are pushing quickly past four feet tall. They are in jump mode. Over the next month they should double in size.

picture.php

picture.php

Laid in the mulch around those plants a couple of weeks ago. Next up on the schedule is to slap together frames for all of them. Past that point they do most of the work....I just keep an eye out for any problems.

The clones are another story. The rain crushed the two that would have been harvested this week. So next up will be a Guerilla Glue, then this Daywrecker plant and her two sisters. About four weeks away. Last run I took this strain early, so I didn't get a legitimate taste of her....

Don't want to make that mistake twice.

picture.php

Luckily the two Skunkdog clones, taken before the rain, yielded a hair over an lb. One gave more than seven, the other was close to nine. Add that to what we'll salvage from the messed up plants and we should limp to the next take with no big disruption in service.

Automatik...the sun vibes arrived with the sun. Mahalo.

Dawn...a break? Hahahahahahah...doesn't work that way. We're just starting the fun part. If anything it gets busier. That's ok....at least it ain't dull.

DB....Yep, Puna weather....how do you stand it? Hell, how do you ever get a harvest? That last month must be torture.

Three days is the average amount of time they spend here. The same time they were flying GH they also did a warrant sweep. I'd guess it was the same group doing double duty.

Doesn't make sense to put the whole bunch up here over the long weekend so they can start again Tuesday. I'd bet they are done for at least a month....maybe more.

Can deal with that.

OH Still alive over there? I finally got mine into the 300 gal smart pot outside, she is at 67 inches tall. This could get their attention next time they fly. Aloha my friend.

Hey DB....Yep...still alive.

We're kinda between harvests here. Not alot has changed.

At least the rain has gone. The trades have been here for awhile and they aren't leaving anytime soon. The upcomming week looks to be perfect. Sunny and dry makes everything...all good. There are some high clouds out there...no moisture involved....so all they do is give us beautiful sunsets....one after another.

picture.php

The plants from seed are all pushing thru six feet. I haven't framed them yet....no need. This is the point where decisions have to be made. Doing nothing is a decision too. And I think I'm just gonna let them be....why pull them over? We'll see how tall they want to grow. The gulch will hide 'em. Frame 'em later too.

Here you go DB. Here's a couple. These are 72 inches grown in a 20,000 gallon smart rock pot....also known as dirt planter.

picture.php

picture.php

Next up are the clones.

Disappointing...

picture.php

The Daywrecker looks like nothing special. She still needs ten more days. But...Think I'm gonna kick this down the road. And with that discarded, we have the final five.

Skunk Dog
Alien Dog
Gorilla Glue
Unknow OG
Triangle Kush

There we go. These are the best all around strains found. And because I'm a nice guy....my patients like HP-13....that comes along too.

I despise HP-13.

Looking out, GH....the big one... is a couple of months away. I'm gonna have to be within my numbers...by their standards. To get the big plants thru, when they visit, nine can be in flower. And we must keep the final five alive too.

Sooo...hope this works....

Now is my last chance to stuff the garden. Load it up, because when the big ones are in flower, there can only be two clones flowering. As the clones are pulled, the holes won't be replanted. Considering I have no idea when they'll do the deed....this should be fun. My timing has to be good....and we have to be creative.

b00m...TYVM

Veg...heating up here too...ain't it nice?

Chunky...It ain't anywhere close to done...I wouldn't book those tickets yet. :blowbubbles:

Looking really good OH .... interesting about the daywrecker ..... Wonder what the issue was ..... We need a smoke report on that!

You should grab a pack of S A N N I E S jack herer .... It's a really fat yielder grows great strong smoke .... Finishes quick for sativa Dom and no mold even during flower rains

I despise hp13 too .... Garbage .... Finicky and absolutely no resistance to mold/pm or bugs ..... Sorry you gotta grow that .... If they are into those affies try out mazar-I-sharif much better growing plant then hp13

Another miserable day toiling in the salt mines....

Warm and sunny, day after day after wreched day....perfection. Handed to me on a platter of sunshine. When will it ever end?

I hope no time soon.

Ya gotta love it. Perfect weather makes this job stupidly easy. The girls have passed the small stage, and we are getting to the fun part. The part that wonders if we've gone too far...too big...

Naaaa. No such animal.

We're not even into Summer. Remember, I started these late....by a full month. It didn't make a lick difference. This year...so far...it just can't get any better. The last few years, the island was dry, but this microclimate had a lot of rain and cloudy days. This year seems to be blessedly normal.

Done gloatin' yet?

If I must.

picture.php

picture.php

The big plants are getting bigger. The hoe in the above shot is five feet tall. Since my last post they have only added another foot to the top, but they are getting nice and round. We're at the stage where we gotta frame them. You guys on the mainland will usually use netting. I prefer to build a bamboo frame around the plant and suspend the branches by tying them up with string or fishing line. With our humidity, this will allow the air to circulate more than the netting. The netting works, but this works better....also bamboo is free. I'm doing this a little bit early, but it's one of those things done better early than late. These plants will grow into the frames. When the plant flowers, down the road, any rain will add big weight. These branches will not support the load, and they will peel off at the main stem. A hard rain will destroy the big plants if they aren't supported.

Yea, it's more work....in my eyes it's worth it.

Next up....we climb in close to the main stem... and cut off all the small branches inside and the bottom. The crap that won't see the sun has to go. Then the plant won't waste energy producing rubbish, that energy goes to the tips....where you want it.

I have't started to spray yet. Try to hold off on that until a problem presents itself. So far it doesn't look to be a very active, moth and bugwise.... Is that a word?

Here's the same shot from the same place (5/27) two posts back. We're moving right along.

picture.php

So far so good there. The only things that have changed in the above shot is the plants are bigger and the Daywrecker in the foreground is gone...wonder where it went to?

Speaking of the Daywrecker...

Hold on...gotta go back here.

Alot of the clones I'm running haven't been run for the whole year. Some I have, are identical year round. Some aren't. The last run of Daywrecker looked wimpy. It went thru the rain, and the less than perfect conditions a couple of months ago. Honestly, I botched the last wave of clones. Early in the run they had to go inside for too long, then when they made it out we had the two weeks of garbage weather....I know, excuses and reasons...sad.

Anyway this wave looks way better...way better.

It doesn't look good enough to save, mind you. Either way her contract won't be renewed. But she doesn't look weak like her predecesor.

Next up are a couple of Skunkdogs, and behind that are a couple of Gorilla Glues. The GG has a couple of weeks more to run.

picture.php

Green Harvest should be a couple of weeks away. Or if we get real lucky they will skip this month and do it again next month. Either way with the seven big plants nowhere near harvest I'll be within my numbers....with no more than nine in flower.

And that leads us to another problem... The garden is full. Every planter on the sunny side is occupied.

picture.php

But the clones keep comming. I've run out of room. The next batch has to go somewhere. Didn't think we'd get to the overflow this early in the year. Oh well... Here in the salt mines the job is never done.
