This thread is awesome - I am not a photographer by any means. I've always relied on my Nikon S8200's auto/macro button for pics, which yielded pretty good shots..

But after reading up here on exposure and aperture, I set my camera to manual 100 ISO and manually worked the aperture for 3 or 4 shots and blew my previous results away:

I then decided to crop down to certain sections of another image and got closer (and clearer) than I ever have.

I have so much to learn, but I wanted to say thanks for making the info available and easy to understand. I wouldn't have ever have taken the time if it weren't for this forum / plant. :thank you:

Looks like low quality lens, but Need more details first. Did you use a tripod?

i thought the lens was higher quality. that whats the guy at best buy said...

i was using a tripod. what i did was focus my lens on flower mode, then i went into camera settings and zoomed in.

Looks soft to me. Get a true macro lens if you want good macro shots. Surely your 55mm does well for bud shots from further away I bet?

Lovely wifi!

Much better. Once you dialed the camera settings (including light balance to get rid of the yellow hps light), you can begin finding good surfaces to shoot. Anyone can take a macro pic, but not everyone can make a beautiful photograph ;) ... Enjoy!

what would one recommend for casual nonpro macro shooting? my budget is around 1500 so ideally like 5-600 on the camera itself and the rest of the lenses, etc....what is the best megapixel to get? almost clueless on where to start except that i should use 50-100mm lenses.

really dont want or need a 3-5k camera right now as its for simply shooting pics of cannabis. something that is a nice platform and versitile so if i want to get fancy with it later i can..

i see this nikon d3100 setup for under 500

i have a canon powershot elp that ive literally had since 2006, its been through several vacations and tons of drops, even has a dent on the shell, and it still works great. so id have to say that canon has some tough gear! how are the canon rebel series
