I recently found a large nugget of lowryder that I'd had in the freezer over two years, not vacuum packed, was as nice as the day it went into the freezer. I'd lost it.

When was the last time you used a ziplock baggie for a sandwich ( ok lil Fat Freddie's lunchbox) besides that?

No, I had to get the attachment off their website.
Is this still the best option out there today? I never liked the idea of long term storage in the vacuum seal bags, but storing in the jars seems appealing. This doesn't require anything but the regular jars and lids right?

I also vac seal everything once cured in mason jars. It keeps for years.
The only time I have frozen anything was a fresh harvest I did not have time to cure properly so it sat frozen for a week before curing, other than that I really don't think it would be my choice.
I use a foodsaver with the jaring attachment same as above and it works very well. It draws enough vac that the lids can be tough to release with both thumbs. The hiss as the vac releases after a year followed by the smell of your finely cured and aged ganja is something else. I store the jars in a cardboard box in the cool basement.

VAC seal fan here as well....use it right after a nice cure.
I've been vaccum sealing it and then putting it in an extra sealed black glass, the Vitality Glassware jars.

I'm about to crack open a jar after a year storage of some purple that's been saved, vacuumed bag gently folded and wedged in a vitality glass jar. Stay tuned for that review in a couple of days ( with before and after pics! )

I still haven't opened it ( I know, shame shame ). It'll be a year come April so I'm waiting a couple more weeks. Here's images from that time though:
The picture doesn't really show the true colors but she's definitely pure purple and unlike anything I have had out of the west coast, it has that cafe bustello kinda miami difference. I don't know how else to draw an analogy. It's strong, strong deep taste and has excellent muscle relaxation qualities. Alas, down to my last 400 vitality jar and the grower is no longer findable.

are best (Mason or Ball canning jars). i use the same jars that i cure in. the longest that i have actually kept any was 4 years and it was as good as it ever was. i always end up giving it away well before i need to worry about it going bad.

Just opened that jar with a vacuum sealed bag inside and woo boy is this nice. This ain't no california bud. This is Miami. Will post a pic of the opening shortly. This was put away in april 2012.

Here's pics from the opening to closing and where it goes. The smaller jar fits about 1/8th and because it's integrated into all day there's several lf these with different strains to break the monotony.
I was greatly surprised to find this wonderful pure purple to be still sticky and as far as how does it taste, the best analogy I can give is, there seems to be a different type of item in the southeast tropical US as as opposed to elsewhere. Shortest analogy I can come up with is the Miami grow has a deep strong cafe cubano taste whereas the california's are like tea.
The head is very pronounced however there's a significant amount of physical which is helping my chronic pain right now. Wish I could get more but the fellow has been out of touch since shortly after that time. I'm very well pleased with the effects and would give this a big thumbs up from a standpoint of storage.

Do I need to vacuum seal the jars beforehand?
If at all possible I'd like to avoid using a vacuum sealer as it is not an easy proposition finding one of those in my locale.
Possible but it might take time.
What are the ramifications of not vacuum sealing before screwing those lids on?
No, I have done it before without using a vac sealer, but you do need to make sure it is dry.. Also, humidity is relative [to temps] so if you bag in 90%RH @ 30 deg, you will get condensation when that drops to 20 let alone 10... could be an issue for some people in humid places

If you put them in the jars, make sure it is dry to the point you can snap the stem but it takes a good bend for it to break. Meaning, dont over dry it. Or it wont cure at all.
(Once MJ passes below 40% humidity.....the cure is done. It wont undergo CBN/CBD to THC transferance)
After 5 weeks in the jar without burping them 1x ,the buds will have gotten to the point that they are sticky again, but not damp enough to get moldy. Keep them in a very dark, dry place like a closet. Put the jars inside a cardboard box, with shredded brown paper bag strips over the tops of the jars. This will help absorb any moisture in the closet and keep the RH low.

No. Just dont pack the buds in the jars. Dont overstuff them. Keep them light, fluffy, and unpressed.
You can lighly shake the jars abit as you put them in to get abit more room as you fill it to the top of the jar, but thats about all you want to put in them.
There are no ramifications. The only worry is overdry or too wet before putting them into the jars.
Make sure the stems snap but after it bends abit. Thats perfect!
If you think its too wet...wait another day before jarring.
If you think its too dry....Put them in the jars. Put the tops on them for 24 hours and then check it. If there is moisture, then keep the buds out for a few hours and repeat.
If there still crispy dry with no moisture its too late. It may be passed the point of no return. Just jar it and check when you get back. Atleast you wont be worried about mold and it may be ok. Its a fine line you need to walk when you cannot burp curing mj for 5 weeks man.
