EWC as a Foliar spray

Hey IC,

I'm pretty new to EWC tea as a nutrient additive but I've got a huge 50gallon drum of it on the brew and I've been considering using it as a foliar spray. I have no experience with foliar sprays but I hear they can do bad things to your plants if you do them in the wrong part of the grow or day cycle.

So what I'd like to know is what benefits do the plants receive from EWCt as a spray on them. Does it just feed them? Will it help or hurt the bugs on them? How does it interact with powdery mildew? Should I be spraying them every day? Every odd day? Only at night? Only during the day? Just general information and experiences please.

I should also note that I'm using un-Sulfured molasses as my sugar source. If some of the molasses is still present in the water (not eaten yet) will that harm the plants at all? Or should I wait till it doesn't smell all sugary?

I foilar spray 2 - 3 times per week, I mostly foilar older more demanding plants, plus I give them their normal nutes 1x time per week, I prefer to spray first thing in the morning, to allow excess moisture to dissipate, as I can see how mold can grow, otherwise, I prefer kelp mixes, as they seem to absorb quicker....I encourage nebies to foilar spray as there is very little chance of burning the plant, and yes the nutes are absorbed, via the stomata (cells on the leaf)

You might want to do some searching in the organic soil forum. Tons of information on Compost Tea and other numerous natural items that can be added to foliar sprays.

the thing about ewc's/organic gardening is that we're all 'on our own' to a degree.

I mean each EWC is largely custom made. mine is different to yours ... and the other fellers ... and him too. so seems to me in this respect growing is an ongoing experiment.

I agree with the info above but can add that I would spray my mix on other kinds of plants first to see any ill effects. on yr vegies for example. if it doesn't hurt them dilute it by half and spray it on yr plants in the morning. (You'd get up nice and early, yes?)

depending on results you can richen up the mix as you think fit.

cheers from the Land of Oz!
