I would pay $650/oz and I'll take a qp right now for this 29+% platinum gsc. Happily pay that.

Where can I go in San Jose to get some?

( I deal in what can be considered an esoteric widget. Been doing it for 30 years. A long time ago I dealt in the same thing everybody else dealt in and fight over 2% here and 5% there. I changed course 23 years ago and specialized in the coolest, rarest of the rare and none of it's inexpensive. Meanwhile colleagues have continued their careers with the same thing everybody else deals in. Who has a better lifestyle? Well they have employees, a building, a shipping department and a conveyor belt to sent the heavy merchandise from inventory to shipping.

Me? My Wife deals with shipping and a million dollar order from me can fit in an envelope .Easy peasy.

I could give you a number of great analogies from where I spent much of my yute in nyc but then you'd know what my investment plans are for california and nobody's gonna know that till after the fact:)

If you want the best be prepared to pay for it cause there's lots of us out here who have no problem paying whatever it takes ( unless its ridiculous and what's ridiculous to you may not be to me ) to get the best whatever it may be, weed, art, collectibles, coins , FOOD, etc.

What I said before is not diminished by people incredulous and impossible napkin sketches of the cost of doing business.

If they have a store front, they have a logo and they have branding marketing and advertising to pay for. Packaging, storage, security, accounting the list is endless.

I bet some people are getting rich with weed legit, but thats the same as pizza or breweries... a few get rich while others do it for the love.

I can tell you from experience I can brew you an amazing beer for $20/5 gallons. When I pay $7 for a Stone City Arrogant Bastard... I feel ripped off. Then I buy another 3 weeks later lol

Premium is premium and storefronts ain't cheap. Neither is OG from what I here!

Your really think they are paying $3500 a pound to get their product?
Try $2000.

What, $500 Pw rent; one or two staff working for minumum wages? But don't forget he said that after all that they still make $8ooo profit per pound.

Once the bike gangs move in their will be firebombings, exortion, murders, and the media will be writing stories how the so called medical marijuana dispersaries have been taken over by organised crime and are just a front for drug dealing, and then having become associated with organised crime and violence the govt. will have support from the voters to close these dens of iniquity down.

i know of at least 3 clubs in the bay area, that are paying 3k for their top shelf OG, chemD, GSC....and some are even paying up to 4 for exclusive shit like NuWave, Sherbet, Animal cookies, etc....

yea they definately have alot of unflushed premo OG and other crap they get for 2k...but the stuff OP was talking about was most likely their top shelf stuff...

San Francisco is forty nine square miles with dozens of official dispensaries add to that the unofficial, but professional operators that advertise on Google, Yelp and CL (I was one-$200/oz whole/broken delivered)

Ninty percent of the dispensaries have extensive web menus. They call it a smart phone for a reason...use it.

Some dispensaries charge $60 an eighth some $20 for the same quality. If you have the money pay it...if you don't...shop around

Price was not the main reason I started growing but it is a factor.

Used to pay $640 an oz at the local dispensary 2 years back. Quality was high but the price was even higher...

Everything in San Francisco is high as hell, might be a part of the problem.

I thank God I can legally grow pot, have all the online help from here and a endless amount of seed strains to try.

My smoke is the equal of any dispensary pot for cure and all the rest. Mostly it is better. I could care less about OG, GSC or whatever they are hyping next month. I can get plenty of great seed strains that have been around for years.

My family used to own a business, if you sell any other product on the planet you buy at wholesale and you sell at retail price. There is usually 100% mark up, you buy for $50 you sell for $100. That mark up is to pay the over head on the retail store, if you don't like it buy it grower direct. Dispo's are a blood sucking leach on the system, eliminate the middle man and both the grower and the smoker will get what they want.

This may suck for the casual smoker but the grower needs to earn a proper living wage too. There is a lot more work involved in turning a crop then a smoker would realize. The only way you know this is if you are active trying to make a living growing herb, it's not as easy to make a good living as people would make it out to be.

If the dispo is asking that price, I hope they are compensating the grower for his hard work, excellent bud doesnt just magically appear.

Benicio Del Toro as cartel boss 'Lado' in Oliver Stone's 'Savages'
The U.S. sends about $2 billion per year to Mexican drug trafficking organizations for supplies of Mexican marijuana moved north across the border and sold primarily in the Midwest and East Coast, according to estimates from the independent, RAND Drug Policy Research Center.

Thursday, Foreign Policy.com outlines some of the fruits of such a failed policy, “All told, Mexican cartels reside in 1,200 American communities as of 2011, up from 230 in 2008,” Foreign Policy reports (citing the Associated Press).

California-grown cannabis has largely eliminated cartel-weed sales from the Golden State, RAND found. The Mexico Institute for Competitiveness predicts that legalization in Washington and Colorado will cost cartels up to $1.8 billion in lost marijuana sales.

I think patients and people in general, do not realize what it takes to produce quality medicine. GROWERS still face FEDERAL TIME, no matter what state they are growing in. Every person that doesn't grow, thinks just plant the seed, and viola, you get weed...too bad it does not work that way. I am in a non med state, and the prices suck, because every person that wants cannabis wants it for rock bottom prices, cause "it is legal somewhere". That mentality sucks, especially for the GROWERS, that are tightening belts all over. I think it sucks the dispensaries are making such a profit, especially when the GROWER never gets to reap the rewards...just keep limpin' through til the next harvest. BUT, it could be a lot worse...when it does go legal/medical, then the GOVT will be running the dispensaries, and BIG PHRAMA will be providing the meds!!!!!

It's funny...where i'm from, if you have $10k cash or like 2 p's, you're kinda doing it...if you have a 5 pack in Cali, you're probably a HS sophomore...lol. It's definitely a buyer's market in the non-med states, due to the rate of seizures, inflated prices, and just generally dude's slanging bud don't have fiscal responsibility...so you have to front or give it to the guy you trust who has cash for less...which is why i'd rather just stay away from that scene...sucks, i'd love to see everyone smoking good, but too many shiesty people in the world.

$540/oz is criminal. Even here where herb is still very much illegal, that price is just insane.

I wouldn't mind paying a bit more than we do now if i knew i wasn't facing jail time and lawyers fees and court fees every time i picked up an oz and brought it home. $540/oz is about half the amount of the court fine alone you get for possessing it here.

I'd pay $540/oz, but it better be some extinct shit that knocks my socks off...lol. Talking about extinct shit, my friend showed me some cotton candy pre98 bubba or something and said "you will never see anyone else with this"....anyone wanna verify? lol didn't really thrill me much at all, but was kinda fresh I guess.

Noone should pay that much, ever.

craigslist ozs $150 here in the bay area. I didn't like the feel of the dispensaries, prices way too high, but quality very good. Growing your own is THE way to go!

I don't like strangers. Maybe next time i'll look around on cl/********* lol

$540 an oz? Get growin boys and girls; undercut those motherfuckers like mad; put the fuckers out of business.
$300 an oz for indoor and you will still make a tidy profit; what? they are selling OG and therefore justify the high prices? OG is just as easy to grow as bagseed, it's not unique to the dispensaries, so grow that fucker and put these assholes out of business.
Better grab a bagfull of eights and stand in the parking lot outside the dispensary and flog them off half price. After that they wont pay the dispensaries price.
Might get beat up by the goons from the dispensary though, better bring along a baseball bat.

Those motherfuckers have security guards with guns...i'm good lol. Really lame now that I think about it...tiny ass salesfloor, usually 2-3 strapped dudes, maybe a dude out front, probably some dudes in the back...I get it, crime's a bitch, but that's just not safe...if they ever try to shoot someone, they're gonna end up blasting some customers...idiots.

I'll pay good money, but not gonna pay $200 more for the same shit just cause "that's the way it is now"...lol. If it were higher thc/cbd/cbn/etc. and they had an analysis report verifying terpene contents and whatnot, maybe i'd pay that, but i'm not in high school anymore...

Well you get what you pay for, yes, but there is no drought of weed for them...they had more weed on the shelves than usual...maybe they just bought a lot of inventory and need money fast, but not my fault they mismanaged their finances...

i know of at least 3 clubs in the bay area, that are paying 3k for their top shelf OG, chemD, GSC....and some are even paying up to 4 for exclusive shit like NuWave, Sherbet, Animal cookies, etc....

yea they definately have alot of unflushed premo OG and other crap they get for 2k...but the stuff OP was talking about was most likely their top shelf stuff...

They didn't have any super crazy OG's really...it was all 3k shit for sure. I did go to hemp center and get some cookies and sherbet, their og's didn't really thrill me.

Well if I knew some good guys to go to I would, but like you said it's one big ass maze...it'd take me days to go to every spot, and over half of them don't appeal to me. Plus signing up 20x/day is annoying. Reviews on most websites sucks, the average reviewer isn't exactly that credible "omg this sour bubble is funk great for gravity bongs my whole dorm loves it"

Yeah, $500 rent, even in mission is not even close. Even if it's one of the mission disp in a shitty hood, try $5k+ a month. I know for certain that re-leaf on mission gets taxed $8k a month in rent, pretty shitty locale, too. Might be a little inflated, but that's from the owner's mouth, a couple years ago. I would, if I were you OP, go right to the Green Door and never look back. Cookie, Og's purples, green ribbon, ect.... $360 an oz or less. Not too far from where you were at, either. Right between 3rd and 4th on Howard street. Parking can be a bitch, but they also have a lounge upstairs, super nice people and ten dollar grams of full melt. Do they make money? Sure, but less than the smaller clubs due to their volume. Everything is tested and listed. They're busy for a reason, at least, they were from about four years ago until six months ago...

Rent in SF ain't cheap. I'd imagine theirs is $6k or so, but with the volume of customers they get it's well worth it...

Green Door is great, got Diablo OG there I fucking loved...I guess I have a habit of picking shitty days though, 99% of the time I go it's all purps and lemonades and shit like that...they get some pretty good platinum OG from time to time...i'm gonna start going there more for sure.

Meh, I was watching doc/tv show (mockumentary? Not sure they're really helping the cause :p) about one of the dispensaries in Oakland and they gave a grower $4k for a pound. I paused it on a frame where they showed the price on a ja, did the math and came up with over $8k a pound. With prices like that, I'm surprised we don't hear about more growers dealing directly with consumers.

That being said, I see it as a lot safer dealing with a dispensary than with a bunch of individuals.

Sellers sell and buyers buy.

If they can get X by selling smaller quantities why in the hell would they get half that for selling a larger quantity?

Some folks just dont understand business I guess.
Dont like the dispensaries price? Dont buy there.
Leave your moral indignation at home

Non-profit only means that the business itself shows no profit on the books. Everyone working there still get paid their salaries, which is recorded as an expense. So, the owner of a non-profit could set his salary at $1 Million a year and it would still be legit in the eyes of the government.

What is this buy and spell you speak of?

If sellers have plenty of it, why cap their revenue? Why only take my $50 and make ~$25 when I could give them $350 and they bank $150?? Then they'll just get more shit and sling it. I fucking hate ignorant assholes like that...just sell it. There's always more. Yes, their shit's good, but it wasn't a Godsend. It's kinda like that ex you hookup with when you're back in your hometown...yeah, you'll drive to her house, but fuck if you give her a damn box of chocolates. I understand supply and demand, i'm not saying be Pablo and just flood the market till prices plummet and shit molds...but don't be so fucking stingy.

I think I have a general understanding of business...I run multiple.

I don't like their price and I no longer buy there, kinda already stated that but thanks for the tip

I'll take my moral blahblahblah where I please, 'merica!

Genuinely suprised more dealers don't start nonprofits (I wonder how many light bulbs are going off after people read this)

I haven't bought anything from a dispensary in ages. Its pretty much a monopoly thanks to the city limiting the number of dispensary where I'm at. Grams are $11, you want an ounce? That'll be $308. Only about double what one could get it for on the street. All while trying to give vendors as little as possible and on consignment.

The can't put all us rebels in jail :p I feel it's more of an economy issue than anything ... people want to smoke allot but don't have much $$$ or have drive to work or can;t find any ... To expensive to live in cali = everyone in cali is filling up there back yards, even with the risk, so they don't go homeless. Some make it others get raided and foreclosed / seized on and others are filling lawyers pockets to stay out of jail ... and let it go at clearance ... Shows what capitalism does in an underground free for all ... at this point not many will want to come out out of the black market even if the government allowed us to ... the margin is already rock bottom ...

Also I don't know allot of growers that have time nowadays to sell to patients also, only a few wonder woman ... or teams ...
Before I got sick of the bay I let my ounces go to my patients for 280 og / 200 other indoor 150 outdoor ... any less than that any they wanted it less or on credit (disp take the card) ... and it would just let go out at wholesale to a disp for less and they could get it there for more

stlll ... they almost seemed to want it for free and felt the disp should subsidize them ...

A product's worth is defined as what someone is willing to pay for it. That's it. No more, no less.

To take it a bit further, there is a difference between wholesale and retail. The "law of retail' says to double your money. As a "wholesaler", all my harvest goes out to ONE person, and guess what? He makes as much as I do, and I'm happy to have him.

Grandpa always said that ain't nothing free. I get mine because I took the time to learn the trade and apply what I've spent conciderable time learning. He gets his because he's spent conciderable time building a network of consumers and takes the RISK of multiple transactions.

I'm perfectly happy to let him "make his" because I would rather not take the above mentioned risk. That to me is well worth the retail mark-up.

To the OP: sorry that you've developed a bit of "buyers remorse", but you deemed that zip worth $540 the moment ya handed over the cash.
