Thanks for the pics, Masa.
I bet you did get your red meat fix on at the Mickey D's. Not a ny strip by any means, but a nice change from the seafood.
Although that red-snapper looking fish looks mighty tasty, grilled over wood charcoal.

It's good to hear NeNe is doing well and learning a lot. I guess, if anything else, her becoming more westernized will keep you coming back to 'civilization' on a regular basis.

So, you guys are going to have hot water baths soon? The hot springs are good for soothing but not so good for cleaning?

My pleasure brutha,, got some more coming here and there,,you know i like to streeeeeeeetch it out some....

It's in the news that a Chinese ship carrying illegal meat, Scaly anteaters called pangolin, Has run into a coral reef in your backyard.

True that big man,,,a its a big ship at that,,,ran aground right next to where a US minesweeper ran aground in Feb, and had to be cut into 3 pieces to be removed.
So.....................
I had it like this
...The US intentionally grounded their ship in order to cover up under water activity.
So now the chinese are looking to find out why a big ass war ship grounded on a well marked shallow water reef and stayed there for over a month...
im making this up of course but the whole thing looked like a set up from the start....

Once they found the frozen anteaters it'll just go down as another smuggling operation...

The mind boggles. So come on Masa, what do you reckon the underwater activity could be?

Hello Captain Mass! I would like to thank you for your words and pictures. Amazing story! I read the entire journal just now.

As a chef I am curious as to the herbs and spices you have access to. I saw some peppers and you mentioned ginger. Are there herbs and spices there? And do you trade for the ones you don't have?

Thanks again for sharing your wonderful life and travels!

Take care and be safe!

Interesting theory about the minesweeper and the cargo ship.
What sort of underwater activity could they be covering up? Building a Dr. Evil style underwater base? Or maybe a lost nuke.
Or maybe they really are such bad drivers, the navy has collided subs with ships, ships into other ships, it's not implausible they missed a reef, even if well-marked...

Wow. Thats all I can say, chicken McDo's, water buffalo, mahoghany free for the using evrywhere around your home. Must be a horrible life Masa, my condolences! Must be a rough life over there with Sabuya and fams. My girl keeps tryin to get me to think about moving back to Samoa. Her parents are palongis but still talk to this day 30+ yrs later of Samoa like it was yesterday. I'd like to think I could make it there...and this thread has pretty much cemented it for me. We're gonna move to the islands one day. I'm down. Lookout Samoa here comes the coolest honkey since Robert Louis Stevenson!! hahaha

Weeeeeeeeeell,,,if I had to sit here and get all "conspiratorial" and shit, it could go something ,,,like this.
The US hasent been king of the pacific for 20 years,,so "intell" is lacking, with the major shift all of a sudden increase Navy presence by 60% the US needs "intel",,theres no way the PI government would let the US set up any underwater sensors so an accident was created giving the US a "cover story".. Now this is all coming out the end of my bong ya understand that right ???

So now the chinese run aground on the same reef,,,same area,,, their cover story,,smuggling, giving divers plenty of time to search for what the US may have been up to...

LB how are ya ,,, yea herbs here are mainstream as in most of Asia, but stay limited to the basics,,a lot od basil,,,but they call it "mint",,,its not,,,its sweet basil and gets traded to the Indo's for curry powder and sometimes pepper corns,,,which is my fav here,,,got 3 kinds black, red , and white and all 3 are as good as cash,, rose marys and tymes are called "wild flowers" and are picked and dried together and blended and the blend used as one seasoning,,"wildflower"...
One of the coolest things about the Island is the massive array of edible plant life,,,and lemme tell ya,,,not all of it's tasty, but will keep ya from starving...

Haggy,,:moon:,,,,,,ello laddy, good to hear from ya,,, still hooked on yer Lemons eh ????
best to ya on the new grow,, just keep yer lil ass covered a bit eh ??.
Ya like that vid eh ?? groovy,,,, thems a cool bunch and as ya can see in the vid not lacking for smoke...
I met um by chance while fishing one day on a rocky shore ,,they come walking up all back packed out with camping gear and shit and set up their camp right next to me,,one of um came up and said ,(in English)," hey man we're gonna party some ,if ya wanna come over" ,,,I said I was good and that I didnt drink beer,, thats when "rasta man" held up a kilo of weed and said "good ,,we don't drink beer either"... The rest is in the archives..........
Tell the wife I said "gud evening" and give the wee one a pat on the head for me.....
Later brotha......

Ok due lets put this on the table for a sec,,Samoa that is,,, first besides eating at family homes you need to survive,im gonna say yer not old enough to retire,,,(just a guess) so you'll need to work or earn income, which dosent really mean "working" but you'll need a way to earn,,,,start looking into the Samoan economy ,imports ,,exports,,,,,see if theres a "nitch" somewhere for ya,,, and find out how bad their economy is tied to the US,,,start smoking the pipe dream, instead of saying "i wish we could " start looking into "what if",,,,"what if " we did this, and look at it as it's going to happen,,, yer still just "investigating" just looking into it,,,but now youve got real info,,youve talked to people ,,,email people, takes months,,a year or more,,,,but you've got info now that will make yer decision for you..
If theres a way for you to live, survive,,,EAT,,and not in a nipa hut,,,its worth the leap.............
You have a mission now lad,,,we'll be looking for your first report in a few months.............:ying:

It's good that you're with people who know how to live off the land, even in lean times. And the lean times makes you appreciate the good times even more.
I think that for most, living the island life native-style is a pipe dream. It takes an exceptional individual to move and adapt to a completely different lifestyle, missing most of the conveniences we take for granted in modern society. Most i think would try it and be back home within a year. That you've made it this far and now consider the islands your home speaks to your mental and physical fortitude.
I think it would be much easier to transition to the island life if said island had at least some modern amenities: power grid, indoor plumbing, automobiles, grocery stores, restaurants etc.

Hey "bad dog". How's life atm? Seems all good. That snaper and goat looks yummy brother. Very interesting flavor combo u have been gifted. Please do a journal soon and I'll be waiting on your smoke report. Why just 4 seeds? Where ur at without any/little LEO I would atleast do 2 of each plus your current grow to see what happens and if any keepers. I'm Hoping u will find what your looking for to pollen chuck for your future kool-aid flavors. I might have to swing by next year with a fishing pole when I go to Leyte, lol. Hopefully before my Gramps passes and to help make the coconut plantation more profitable. Anyways be safe "you bad dog" and may the trade winds always blow your way capt.
