Headaches thus far ...
a. Not enough medium, root mat blocked drainage holes.
b. fungus gnat problem
c. unspecified diseases, likely root rot from fungus gnats but also likely hygiene issue

Next time ...
a. use more medium
b. don't have soil + hydro in same room. don't leave grow room door wide open to cool. be more proactive about eradicating airborne pests.
c. as a precaution run pythoff (chlorine additive) from the get go. Figure out how to clean utensils, as bleach apparently leaves toxic residue.

SMOKE REPORT!!!!

My friend chopped, cured and dried the mother of these plants recently. We had a smoke last night and omg... the weed is AAA+ I wish I knew what the strain was! The seed was from an outdoors mix from Amsterdam.

Most pure sativa high I have ever smoked!
Energetic, giggle, you can hold a conversation easy!
Medium to strong, I'm guessing around 10% THC, high cannabinoid (I prefer this for my anxiety)
Has a citrus scent when the bud is chopped up
The most anxiety free weed I have EVER smoked.
I found it hard to sleep while stoned, so much energy!

This weed is excellent for me! I can do my study stoned with this bud!

Looking good! How long did your buddy say the mother went for in flower? Did you get your portable AC?

Hey Social!

My buddy said it went for 8 weeks, which is quite quick for a sativa. I have a feeling it may go for 10 at the latest.

I got the portable AC, however here in the southern hemisphere we are in autumn, heading into winter. So the temps for my 600W light are perfect! :) In another week I'll hook up my spare 400W light and get 1000W cranking XD If the temps are too hot I'll add the AC.

I had root rot early, however it is mostly controlled now. I don't want to stop the pythium prevention additive, however I do want to run Canna Boost. Then I had an idea, why not foliar feed the Canna Boost? It works out way cheaper than putting it in the res too!

It turns out if you can't run organic additives (i.e. rhyzotonic) in your res, you can foliar spray them! I can't believe such an obvious this eluded me for so long! It only clicked yesterday. I sprayed some seaweed concentrate on them and they perked up like you would not believe!

Man, I've got so many ideas for my next grow!

Oh yeah, I had a problem with the holes in the bottom of the top pot blocking. It was causing the medium to flood. So I turned the water pump off, which turned my system into a DWC. It's going great, no more having to lift the pot and poke drainage holes! :)

Man, that's awesome! Despite many attempts this is my first successful harvest and I can't wait!! My excitement levels are on par with yours :D

I'm somewhat envious of you, how you live in the UK. I think it's awesome how you can get seeds legally mailed to your door. I had to do some pretty crazy shit to acquire the seeds for my next grow! I bought them from a seed bank in the UK. I'm happy they made it through customs! :D

My plants are cranking!! I'll upload some pics. I just hooked up both lights (600w + 400w XD POOOOWEEEERRR!!!!!!). I engineered a bigger bottem pot and now my system is basically a big DWC.

Good to see you back on the site man!! I thoguht you disappeared! I'll check out your diary shortly, your buds were looking pretty good last time I looked.

This is my new bottom pot. Waaay more room for the roots!

This is my plant sitting in the new pot. Both plants are HUGE! Each about a metre square in area.

This is my new lighting arangement! Thankfully it's winter and I can run this without temp issues.

In fact, it gets way less cold with 1000w worth of lighting!

I also put up some diamond foil. It was only 30USD for 7 metres. I figure, if I am running 1000w of lighting, I may as use the diamond foil for the +7% reflectance it has over my existing panda film.

Hey there MWZ mate!
Things are looking stellar! Crazy you beet root rot, I always thought it was one of those things, that once you had it,things were f***ed! Good stuff!
Plants are looking huge! Lovin that hydro setup.

Im in the southern hemisphere myself (though over the ditch in NZ) so I know all about those cold nights. I run lights at night, and I find even with 2000 watts (2X600's and 2X400's) I'm staying in that 27-29 degrees bracket, and during the day we get as cold as 16 which isn't ideal, but not too worrying.

Anyway mate, I'm gonna chime in for this show, those beasts are gonna get massive!

Cheers and welcome man! There's always a free spot on my pondering couch in my grow room :)

If you see the signs and catch it early enough, like before the roots have turned to brown goo, then run a product called 'Pythoff'. Its 0.1% Chlorine and will keep pythium at bay. I chopped all of the dead roots, the plant didn't seem to mind. There's still some slight leaf curl and wilt at times, especially when the plant's stressed, but I've largely been able to keep it t bay.

You're damn right about the weather too! I have never grown at this time of year, but from now on I'm structuring my yearly grow schedule around Autumn/Winter. Being able to crank the lights is a definite plus and a good reason to look forward to the winter months lol! :D

Mid week 3 update! :D

- I need to get a carbon filter! The plants are starting to stink! It's on my list of things to do tomorrow.
- I tried applying an Aspirin foliar spray (1/2 * 300mg Aspirin per Litre water). Hopefully it helps boost the plants immune system. I'm going to drench the roots with an Aspirin solution on Friday. I'll post how it goes.
- I've been foliar applying a regular gardening product containing seaweed extract. The plants LOVE it! I spray just when the lights come on, with an osculating fan and good ventilation.

All is going well, white pistols everywhere! :D

Here are some bud shots. These pics are of the same plant tip, however taken with different camera settings. I like how the second pic emphasises the white pistil things!

I'm showing these pictures at original size because I was mucking around with the manual settings and focus to see how much detail I could capture.

wow what a great little read this is .i am tagged to see these plants to the end well done so far.on the root rot front, i add 1 m per uk litre (slightly less than a usa litre ) h2o2 never had a prob since, also silica helps with the stalks for when you get those big fat buds weighing them down. but thats just how i roll.keep up the good pics and info .willyweed
