hey Hortilab, very nice to see you made it over to see hoe these SourStar ladies are doing. so far so good i'd say, maybe a tad longer veg phase might have helped for the yield potential. but you know how it is with plants you don't know, if you switch too late they will outgrow the space. while if you switch too early with more indica plants your top colas can remain short and fat. but we will see, i did see pics of this lady making very long and fat colas. so far they phenotypes i have all look very similar.

Howdy mosca negra my friend, i'm so glad to finally get around to a proper grow with the Fly Hooker, circumstances have conspired against me in the last year a bit when it came to growing out new seeds, i lost a whole bunch of plants due to having to do a unexpected shut down in that place. anyway to make a long story short, here they are, the results of those seeds you kindly handed me last 420. they are doing real well imo, it seems they could deal with a bit more ferts too if needed, but they are making nice long colas by the looks of it, so it's to be hopped they will really show whats in them. i really can't wait to harvest a bunch of FlyHooker for my stash jars. you created a very unique and strong flavored variety with this lot, even if my first test plants didnt get a fair crack at it, the buds they did produce were incredibly enjoyable and strong medicine. was also quite pleasantly surprised that all of them had similar characteristics so far, lets hope these 3 phenos follow along with that pattern, lol.

sorry for the long wait between updates, but i kept missing lights out or then the battery of my camera was empty. but as you can see both are doing great in the end. even the stems no longer look too bad, lol. now lets hope they keep fattening up for the next 4 or 5 weeks.

such a shame it won't be ready to take some to the 420 to share.

it's a bummer, but it's looking like the dreaded pm is making an appearance. real bummer, but thats what can happen if you have less then perfectly healthy plants. nothing to do with the seeds. anyway it looks like if i take them at 8 weeks the pm will not do too much damage to the actual buds. time will tell how it goes, but it's too late to use any sprays.

Plants still look good gaius. PM does suck but some of the Organic guys from out in the western US have been working on somethings that seem to work in preventing PM. Protekt, Neem to name a couple. I am not really up on it as I do not have that problem where I live but if you would ask one of them I am sure they would be glad to help you out with some recipes for the future.

thanks man, it's day 46 of 12/12, so they don't have long to go. i noticed any spray i use i taste in the hash, while pm i can wash it off the bubble hash with the shower head. not sure but personally i prefer smoke some pm then some poison to kill pm. and for changing their health it's too late now, while milk etc will just stink up the buds.

yeah i hate it too, thats what i love about growing from seed, the plants are generally stronger and have more vigor to compensate for anything that might go wrong. and the cheese haze seeds i made and the afghan diesel are just perfect for my taste, so the only benefit is the time you win by using clones, as it's about my stash time is not such an issue.

anyway here we are day 46, last chance to get an update in before the 420, so forgive the lights on, there was only that choice.

if i could only bring a sample of this Fly Hooker to the 420, the smell on her is something incredible. so far all the phenos are equally pungent, just like the first few plants i grew out a while back, very great potential, real bummer about the pm.

both strains are creating a lot of trichome coverage, the FlyHooker trichomes are reeking, while the sour star is stinking.

oh woe on to that darn powdery mildew! maybe applying the plants sap tech would help improve resilience. need to give that thread a good reed, but it seemed you could spray some nutrients to correct the sap ph either up or down to the ideal 6.4 which apparently makes a plant no longer hospitable to pests and powdery mildew. i think i read spray calcium to raise sap ph and something else to lower it as quick fixes, apparently pests will just ignore plants with a sap ph of 6.4. very interesting.

you will love the results, i can say that with confidence as i tested them enough to know. smoking some of that right now, i call it afghan diesel haze, but in reality it's a Sour Diesel hybrid crossed with a Sour Amnesia male. the reason i added the afghan to the name was purely due to that flavor reminding me of afghan.

Looks ooh so tasty. My 10 regular sour star beans should be here any day. Going to find a good pheno and have moms in dwc. Going to grow them sog straight from rooted clones to 12/12.

the phenos i have would benefit from a bit of veg phase i think. i guess it will depend on which phenotypes you find, but she seems to show more indica traits then sativa. i would not use her for going straight to flower with newly rooted clones. at least a few days of veg would be my recommendation to help get the best from them.

yeah what i understood reading that thread, was that you can spray your plants to effect the sap ph up or down. so my plan is to see if i can keep the sap ph stable with regular spraying. i know this will not achieve the balance in the soil they are talking about, but it's supposed to be good for a stop gap measure and as our crops are done in 3 months, the stop gap measure might be enough?

hey Horti, sorry it's been so long since i updated this grow. the pm kinda depressed me and made updating it less attractive, lol. anyway i did a really close trim and it looks like the buds are still decent, even if it stopped them reaching their full potential.

anyway let me get some pics up of the end results...

i have to say although the SourStar is a good smoke , i think the pm has dulled it so it's not really fair to judge it. i have 3 phenos and am still smoking them and making up my mind, they are similar in taste and smell to me, same with the high. they are very tight structured buds.

the taste is a bit skunky diesely, but not intense alas, just respectable taste wise. but i really do think part of the reason the smell is not heavier is the pm, it kind of dulls it. when it comes to my friends, they are all saying it's a great smoke, so you have to realize that i'm speaking from a spoiled point of view when it comes to heavy dank funky reeking buds.

basically this review is not really useful as it only applies if you get a powdery mildew attack on your crop, lol. without pm they will probably rock your world.

i do want to thank you for the chance to try these out Hortilab mate, i apologize for not treating them as well as they deserved. wasn't all my fault, but my responsibility all the same, lol.


here we have some kind of fem sour diesel from my mate greenops, turned out quote good, just took about 12weeks lol.
