Tutorial Organics for Beginners

Yes. Are you using a 5 gallon bucket? Most of the time I use a 4 Gallon Ratio because the bucket isn't full.... anyways.

Keep in mind that the Kelp Meal will also slow down the Process of the Compost tea. I keep just EWC and molasses in my tea and then would bubble the kelp separately if needed.

Anyhow. Sticking with 5 Gallons

5 Gallons = 80 Cups

Fish hydrolysate(high quality) - 0.063%

80 x .063% = .0504 Cups
.0504 cups to tablespoons = 0.8064 Tablespoons or 2.4192 teaspoons or 11.924 Milliliters

Kelp Meal is .25% which is easy cause that is half of the Molasses amount. Or 3.2 Tablespoons

SRP is the same as the Fish Hydrolysate
0.8064 Tablespoons or 2.4192 teaspoons or 11.924 Milliliters

Going to be using a 5 gallon water bottle and cutting the bottom out of it.

Thanks for the conversions man.

For those that haven't read MicrobeMans website yet. Please Check it out. www.microbeorganics.com

Here is a link that MM references to Scott Storch's design of the 5 Gallon Water Bottle.

http://www.subtleenergies.com/ormus/tw/turbo-vortex.htm

I had some interest in building one, but I may just buy the Microbulator and microscope from MicrobeMan and be done with it.

Edit: I linked the 5 gallon design because it sounds like 420MAN78 might be going this route and I want everyone to know how.

This is way...way...way better

3a/ Simple Airlift - Vortex: done my way
I've had many requests to provide a simple design for an airlift brewer. This sketch of a simple design cone bottom tank brewer can be applied to just about any size brewer. Just don't start selling them or I'll have to sue you.
If you wish to create a vortex using this design make sure you use a round shaped tank and position the return nozzle (elbow) so it is directional to the flow desired. This can be reversed by twisting the elbow and tweaked by using a short length of pipe as an extension. I'll try to post some photos shortly.

I'll be changing the angle of the water delivery tube on top later tomorrow. I need another piece or two.

I have mimicked Steve Storch's design off of MMs web site and While It works it is kinda a pain in the ass to put together.

Like MM said can be done way easier and more cheaply.

Woke up this morning to a chug a lug type noise coming from the other room.... Little clog in the bottom of the cone. I think it's from reducing the size and creating a shelf for compost to sit inside there.

I'm going to take it apart, clean it and get it all running properly tonight.

I must give a warning word to all people that are gone try this organic thing...
It's gone lead you to lots of trouble! DONT DO IT!
Like it's done to me.

Nowadays I get so healthy, BIG, robust plants that I can't seem to fit them anywhere!
There is few monsters in my greenhouse, that I should bring to house, under bloominglights, but I don't have any space left...they are gone be like 2 m in few weeks time.

So, let's open a thread of lumberjacking? Eh?

Great choice my new friend...

I remember when I made the switch so many many moons ago... LMAO!!

All kidding aside preparing for the awakening......

Was going to build the 4 corner model but will try your schematic.

with so much too read..lucky this micro stuff is interesting :D a good eye opener.. thanks for the warm welcome.

i have a thread started to try get me going, was thinking if i should keep posting on here as noticed this thread is still active and might be better keeping all info together..? just a thought.. let me know

quick question- brewed my first ewc, great white, molasses tea for 40 hours and fed it to my plants in coco/hempy.. noticed these little thin white things chilling out around the top, lots of them.. 1-2mm and jumpinh around moving..hundreds too!.. look like nematodes or springtails..

lastly is it safe if i spill drops of ewc tea on myself :| brewing in a bedroom so any health risks involved i should know about...now would be a good time :) don't know if it's harmful to us..

i have never seen these insects in my time of growing. first time! urgently need to know your thoughts.. they sound like springtails! should i try and get rid of them.. they must have come from the ewc layer i added to my pots recently. apparently they compete for nutrients and oxygen which can't be good..

:yeahthats

Edit: They're not going to compete for anything that we're concerned with. They'll actually munch on decaying matter and help in the whole process of, y'know, life and shit.

thanks guys, will take you word for it!..been doing some research, it's all making sense now.. all the info seems to be pointing in one direction.

a great video showing exactly what they look like for future reference.
youtube-Benificial Microbes (Springtails)

any idea if they are harmful to us? i've come across a few sites where they've managed to get into our body, into our hair etc somehow passed the stomach into the intestine..read many cases of patients experiencing discomfort till today..check it out for yourself!it's way past my bed time..maybe my imagination is getting the better of me lol could someone have a look please, google it.. some of it looks true!

for my future soil mix neem seed meal will be mixed in, if i can find it here.. not going to get my hopes up tho. supposed to be really good for organics. I've used the cold-pressed oil for years in coco as a preventative with great results.

are springtails essential for organic grows? read somewhere mycorhizae bacteria are supposed to eat them or could it be the other way round?

lol..... I think you meant this:

"However, by their capacity to carry spores of mycorrhizal fungi and mycorrhiza-helper bacteria on their tegument, soil springtails play a positive role in the establishment of plant-fungal symbioses and thus are beneficial to agriculture. They also contribute to controlling plant fungal diseases through their active consumption of mycelia and spores of damping-off and pathogenic fungi. It has been suggested that they could be reared to be used for the control of pathogenic fungi in greenhouses and other indoor cultures."
