hopefully i will be able to get some shots of cactus pollen one of these days, sometimes the grains are crazy little spiky things themselves...i have some cactus seeds i got that i want to try germinating and see the whole life cycle for myself, theres a place where you can get something like 1700 different types of cactus seeds including many of the super rare cultivars...

im starting to see lots of flowers forming on many of the cactus now, theres a good reason many of these cactus are so popular and readily available, they are easy to grow and bloom prolifically even in pot cultivation and at a young age, even though many of the cactus i have are pretty small they are all likely several years old already.

and the new acquisitions continue, been giving lots of business to the local cactus guy.getting a lot of the local varieties that are protected species and should only be acquired from reputable dealers and nurseries.many of these cactus exists in only very limited areas and many are virtually extinct in their home ranges due to development and illegal collection.

So jealous of your monstera!!! That has been on my wish list for years!!!! Your inside of the house looks a lot like mine. I had 100 square feet under MH devoted just to Blue Agave this Winter. Oh, wait until you get the agave bug... gorgeous evil little things! Their spines are truly vicious and GOD FORBID you get snagged on the backwards facing hooks... YIKES! You are blessed to live in a region so rich with beautiful cacti and succulents. I am farther East, but have strived for years to turn my house into a tropical jungle, with one room as hot dry desert. :D I <3 Plants!
Keep the wonderful pics coming!!

Yes, Swiss Cheese Plant LoLz! My neighbor has both the green and varigated varieties and I am jealous of hers too!! I am kicking myself for not snagging a green one years ago when there was some at Home Depot. Your glorious thread has inspired me to create my own. The cacti and succulent department will be created when I clean up that room, not picture ready atm lol. You have some lovely specimens yourself. :)

the bulk of them came from walmart, home depot and lowes, its from the cactus.com collection, they probably have 2-300 different species available and the 4 oz size stuff is generally 2-3 dollars so its east to start a small collection cheaply, and many of the smaller plants do very well under t5's and cfl's.
nothing beats the desert sun for growing cactus apparently though! even dimmed by 20% or so it still gets them growing nicely.

Most cacti actually DONT enjoy full hot Sun, as you learned by your poor sunburned little ones. I make sure mine get strong direct Sun for 4-5 hours a day and shield them from the hottest light late in the day. There is a fine line between just surviving and thriving. :) Your green house porch is such a great habitat for your green friends! The benefit of having a container garden is moving it around to suit the conditions and also just for fun.
When I lived in S. Fla. I managed to have an awesome rose garden in containers. In the hottest part of Summer when they would just stall out from the heat I could just drag all of them off to the back of the yard under a tree. In the Fall when they would recover I would drag them back out to be put on display again! My landscape design could change to suit my liking just by dragging a bunch of pots around.
