what i wonder is why humanity seemed to take a downward turn from taking the high road. if you think back to the general consensus around the time when start trek was running the next generation, concerning things like going in to other countries to democratize them or help them defeat a tyrant with the military, were totally frowned on by most people. in fact the prime directive preached in star trek is a good example of the views of that time, even in school we were told we had learned from history that wars of aggression are never the answer, that people have to be left to find their own way and that intervention always turns out for the worse... so what has happened to humanity that we all of a sudden forget all the lessons we learned that lead up to such enlightened views becoming mainstream? while now, no one much really seems to mind the idea of their tax money being used to kill people all over the world for profit and power. was it all just an illusion allowed the masses due to the cold war? were they really stuck not being able to go in any old country for any old reason and start the killing due to the shadow of the Kremlin in the background and vice verse, keeping power balanced? or have we as humans regressed in our empathy for others? maybe it's just a sign that i'm getting old, but it seems to me people had a better understanding of what is right and what is wrong when i was growing up. and the prime directive is a perfect example of that aspect. or is it just that they were better able to fool us in those days into being deceived about the reasons for the killing and about who is doing the killing? what must aliens think when they see us using depleted uranium munitions which are poisoning the planet and causing birth defects of horrific magnitude? or when they see us burying our radio active rubbish in drums that might last 50 years when the stuff remains deadly for thousands and thousands of years. or the illegal dumping of toxic waste in the ocean, the new floating continent of plastic crap. i could go on and on about the ways we poison our environment, it's not a pretty picture. despite all this and more they have not intervened with any offers of help or suggestions for solutions, so i kinda doubt they will. maybe thats the test, solving all those problems ourselves before we get to join their version of the federation.
Unless we're talking about a paranoid perspective behind galatic civilization, in which small civilizations like ours would be tested and then those who showed the potential to become an advanced species would be destroyed so that they never spread out to consume resources or threaten others, think Berkserker probes instead of Bracewells or Von Neumanns, only in your version, the test itself causes the destruction rather than it being a result.

I agree Galmarius. I am getting old too.

We remember a more hopeful outlook of the future and a morality that seems to be fading.

We all can blame whoever we like but the question is what to do about the plastic swirling and polluting the Pacific? So many problems we continue to worsen rather than finding solutions we counted on science to provide.

But, the kids are advancing spiritually. That's why most under thirty agree that gays should be allowed to marry. More people smoke pot and really tend to be more peaceful. Places like California that have made cannabis accessible have seen violent crime and fatal car accidents go down. For like fifteen years now. But pot won't solve all our problems.

We have bad mind, bad govt and bad religion. In Buddhism this will lead to a series of events much like the bibles version of the end of the age. Not the end of days hopefully though. It's cause and effect that we set into motion when we change the weather or the composition of the waters.

Have you watched that movie yet? Idiocracy? If you already saw it just watch it again.

We aren't far from that possibility.

We're so close to the Idiocracy it's scary.

"Concern was shown, but the greatest minds of the age did not come to a solution, because they were too occupied trying to make erections last longer."

You need to be WAY more specific! Does single celled organism count as an Alien, or does it have to be Roswell type of Alien?

sometimes it's hard to take our current times into perspective
perfectly reasonable since most of us have limited years/experience/etc.
but go back a century or so, the notion of war was still well accepted by the most developed nations, from defending national honor to other less admirable notions
today not so much, wars still happen but not quite in the same way, and they're not viewed with mindless patriotism as they once were
pollution? cities were cesspit's of all manner of toxic waste, and it was accepted as a price for progress
we still live in the 'sausage factory', and it's not all pretty
but when i see the occasional difficult to explain object in the skies, and having seen one myself, there's still some optimism left in me that something better is possible

thanks guys, i didnt see that movie yet, will check it out.

the thing about the free energy principle being shown in the crop circle, is not really necessarily of alien origin. i mean if mankind knows enough to see what it's supposed to do, then it means we already have this knowledge. it might not be in the main stream but there are many experimental free energy producing technologies being worked on and tested. the more fantastical ones claim to take energy directly from the earths magnetic field. but some of the less incredible one are basically taking a small amount of energy and making it bigger in all kinds of ways. so those designs in the crop circle could be some scientist working for a top secret program leaking the plans to circle makers to get it out there without getting his head blown off for divulging secret tech, hehe.

Most of the weird world simulations say that humanity will still destroy itself after achieving "free energy", it will just make the timeline much longer.

i don't think seeing a ufo makes anyone a nut. i know too many totally normal people amongst my friends who claim to have seen ufo's. it's similar all over the world, there are thousands of reports. so something is unquestionably going on, someone or something seems to be operating these craft. but what it is, thats a whole other kettle of fish. It's all fascinating to me. there is this guy in Switzerland who claims to have had many many encounters with actual aliens and claims to have flown in the craft. his story is pretty far out, it's also pretty compelling if i remember well. i forget his name, but a bit of googling with the words Swiss man contact with aliens you should find it, he looks like a typical Swiss Alp farmer.

edited to add: Billy Meier is his name

I have a friend that's into that Billy Meier story. It is compelling in the way that a good conspiracy theory is but in the end it's so out there it's difficult to accept. From what my friend tells me his contact with the "aliens" is both in person and telepathically. If I understand correctly the "aliens" are from our future and have come back to our time to try to change our future so something doesn't happen (I'm not sure what that something is though). What makes it so unbelievable to me though is it goes into a lot of this stuff relating to religious history. At least from what my friend tells me.

As far as the issue of sanity based on events witnessed. Nobody should ever be seen as crazy just for reporting a ufo. Saying you saw a ufo is the same as saying "I just saw something fly by that I don't know what it is." Any craziness read into that such as little green men or what not is in the mind of the person making the judgment about the claim of seeing a ufo.

yeah i know, it seems he has been debunked pretty thoroughly by now. when i first heard his story from his perspective, it was addictive to see and read what else he would say next. but it seems his pics have been debunked from a few directions.

what i wonder is if he really had some kind of experience to begin with, but then started making up his own evidence to help him try and convince people? or was he a con man from the beginning?

Not specific enough huh? What kind of life? Who the he'll knows but we are thinking about smart aliens mostly cause the dumb ones couldn't get here. Of course most think there is life out there but has it ever visited us?

One of the reasons I have watched Idiocracy about ten times is because I keep showing it to my friends when they visit. In this future they just keep piling up the garbage higher and higher until the Great Garbage Landslide that killed many and is long remembered in e movie. It's five hundred years in the future and Arnold is President.

His cabinet consists of kids and retards and bimbos. Right at the beginning it explains how the wrong people over bred while the smart people knew better. The results are a lotta dumb asses.

I am old and I see a decline in the level of mediocrity we accept and I think America is very much Idiocracy right now. Maybe they are from the future but if so they could be dumb asses... In the movie they had a time machine but they didn't use it because it cost a lot to ride.

We really aren't much smarter than our dogs. In fact they have us serving them instead of thm serving their masters. We are dumb asses and I am for certain but ignorance is bliss.

Actually the time machine turned out to be one that the current population was capable of building, a cheap carnival ride with rubber dinosaurs in nazi regalia.

it was worse then that even that crapy time machine ride they had was from a time when they were smart enough to build it, lol. he did say how a really smart guy built it ages and ages ago, but its so old it keeps breaking down. so they had gotten so dumb that keeping a carnival ride in shape was just about the height of technological aptitude left, lol. thanks for the rec, was very entertaining and what a message. so there you go, smart people need to make more babies or we will be in deep shit from the garbage avalanches, lol.

In the movie Idiocracy it is assumed that the gradual regression of society had occurred naturally over a 500 year period based on societies current state . Two people travel into the future in the movie, where they arrive is the end result of 500 years of intellectual and spiritual regression. Everyone's IQ has been reduced, no one takes anything seriously everything is a joke, corporations have run wild and own everything. People vote in a president who is a wrestler who shoots off guns at political rallies. It's a very funny movie.

Our society in America is much like Idiocracy but unlike the movie the dumbing of our society is being done purposely. It's being done scientifically. It's not happening randomly.

I believe alien life forms exist. What if there were aliens out there similar to the borg from star trek. I mean it's a logical assumption intelligent beings would have the urge to merge with machines to enhance their life span and intelligence. And machines do not have human feelings and emotions. Who knows if they could even understand the concept of right and wrong, good and evil. A cold calculating machine. What would good and evil mean to a machine.
Is good and evil tied into consciousness or is it a human trait? Would other conscious beings be good or evil?

Based on what people are working on here and now, artificial intelligence is almost here. Cybernetics technology is being developed, and researchers and scientists say they may be able to upload your brain into a computer. I think we should make laws controlling the newer robotic technologies because the government is calling their fleet of drones skynet.

I can only assume this applies to all conscious beings, the higher the level of intelligence, the higher the level of consciousness.
What if highly intelligent life forms have already visited earth and are manipulating our consciousness of reality? How would we know if they were or weren't?

In the movie it's a police state with corporations run amuck. I liked the Carls Jr. Vending machine that didn't give you your big ass fries then insults you and calls you an unfit mother then calls the police. It sprays you with pepper spray too. About the same as now.

But salt is bad so it is banned and sugar is bad so it is banned but sex is ok so star bucks and everyone else is openly selling sex. Rehabilitation is a gas and what fun...just like the roman games. So is it the future we want?

Just breed like rabbits with no planning for the future and a disaster is predictable.

We need to see the inevitable before we degrade further. Did you know that the average mobile facebook user posts an average of 14 times a day? Important social networking.

We got over that long ago because we started this shit on Overgrow.com and we overgrew.

The planet could use less humans and more animals IMHO. They seem far smarter being able to survive in the wild with nothing. Could you do that?

We are already in Idiocracy...I think it's far too late for even aliens to help us.
