after reading up a bit more and refreshing my bad memory :bashhead: it is the 730nm-750nm far reds (& infrared) that are responsible for causing damage thus causing the trichomes to turn amber.

maybe those of us who don't have any far red or IR diodes in our panels need to supplement them, or just wait a little longer (which most of us don't want to do).

Today was the last feeding day for my girls. The end is closer with each second
The buds are heavy and the branches keeps bending. I didn't thought at this when I have 'designed' my DWC modules and now I don't have any support or trelis to help with this. Just two-three days and they will rest on a drying screen :joint:

I have changed the water and I filled the reservoirs with pure RO water and Canna Flush (40ml/10L). Tomorrow I will change the water again (for the last time) and then ... harvest.

How many amber trichomes percent are you going to have ? :)

Good question - no amber trichomes until now. Really don't know why - maybe the lack of UV and IR ? However, today is day 70 , 5 day more than in the strain description. The trichomes are mostly clear and cloudy, but I have to harvest in 2-3 days, no matter what.

@GP73LPC : This is the layout of my LED panel. Sorry for the low resolution, but I lost the original :

Day 72

I know you all are waiting to see this girls chopped, but I don't know why, something stopped me to cut them down last night. Maybe I was to lazy ... (and my schedule force me to wake up very early so I can't afford to give away precious sleep hours for trimming job).
I checked the trichomes again last night ant still no sign of amber , just cloudy and some late clear.

If not tonight or tomorrow night, I will surely chop them Friday evening.

But I did took some pictures :

well, i am a bit concerned about no amber trichs, since i have converted to LEDs (currently running my first).

i will look forward to your smoke report, as i always like about 20% amber.

with that said, i will prolly look into adding a few IR LED bulbs to my grow. :dunno:

My last run - G13 Haze from Barney's (one plant in hidro, one plant in soil) - was a real killer - very, very strong. I also wait for amber trichs to show up two more weeks. The smoke was very uplifting on the first months, but I stored my stash on a warm room (always above 24-25 degrees) so the THC degraded quite fast and the effect became more narcotic - 30 minutes after 0.5g joint I was sent to sleep without any chance to stay awake.

After many readings about UV-B and IR, I tend to believe that a small exposure to UV-B light (4-6 hours a day - during the peak hours) in the last 3 weeks of flower could enhance the THC production (as a response to UV-B induced stress) and the IR could speed up the ripening process.

But we will know for sure this after somebody will try one or several side by side grows, with and without UV-B/IR.

thanks hempfield

i am pretty convinced with all the info here that UV-B does produce more trichs and IR does speed ripening.

with that said, i would love to see a side by side :tiphat:

Harvest Day

Harvest Day

Last night was a very loooong night. I chopped the girls and the trimming job took me 4 long hours (and 3 joints). Working alone in a very small space and wearing rubber gloves, I couldn't take pictures.

The smell of the Mazar is amazing, very sweet and fruity, with a distinguish flavor of grapes, a very pleasant smell, a real bless. The calyxes are huge and some buds are the size of my fist. I did't put the buds on a scale, but I approximate a 3 pounds of wet weight, bud this DWC buds are extremelly juicy, so I expect more than a 75%-80% loss of weight :dance013:

In the other hand, the AK47 stinks ! She literally stinks, and I mean stink, like industrial rubber dumped in some kind of solvent or something. This smell almost make me puke when I deep inhale. The taste and the aftertaste aroma (tested a few days ago on vapo) are very nice and strong - like some perfume or cologne. I can't wait to roll and smoke a dried sample !

I did not hold the AK47's buds to evaluate the weight , but they are a little thinner than Mazar's, but their number is larger. The trimming of the AK47 was quite a PITA, due to the high resin content, which made every movement hard to accomplish , with trim leaves sticking everywhere. I also noticed a "hash tip" on the biggest bud, which grew very close to a red LED.

Tonight I will do some cleanup on the flower room and I will take the opportunity to take some pictures of the drying buds. Who is interested in some root porn ?

A first conclusion of this run : this LEDs have a penetration depth of max 1' (30cm). Bellow that the buds are yellow green , although covered on trichomes.

I think I could achieve the same or better results if instead of SCROG I would use SOG on small pots- for a more even top spacing , with just one week of veg. There is always place for improvement. :scripture:

wow, if you got 3 lbs wet of the mazar alone and you lose 80% of the weight, then counting the AK you are gonna be over the 1 gpw mark. you're gonna be close to the 1 gpw mark with the mazar alone based on your weight estimate.

keep us informed...

can't wait to grow me some AK. got some Serious genetics just waiting on me :D

yup, my system will grow some other varieties to make sure what i have now is good before i would ever attempt a stinky strain such as the AK.

actually my new setup is working very well thus far.

but i must be certain before i go there :tiphat:

Congrats for your harvest, man !
But I'm wondering why they took longer as predicted to finish. Being grown in hydro, vegged long enough and with the gradual photoperiod you used, I expected they would finish faster... What do you think ?
Peace, HJ.
