U.S. drug czar finally gives concrete details on plans to prosecute in CO and WA

In November 2012, the states of Washington and Colorado voted to legalize marijuana for recreational use. Nearly five months have passed after this unprecented change in drug laws, and due to marijuana still being completely illegal on a federal level, many have been left wondering what exactly the DEA and DOJ intend to do with regard to enforcement. So far, no answer from either group or from Attorney General Eric Holder have arisen- in fact, to date, the most specific reply any government agent has given is the Gil Kerlikowske himself, President Obama’s director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy. He recently replied to the issue in an interview with a Canadian publication, stating "You’ll continue to see enforcement against distributors and large-scale growers as the Justice Department has outlined. They will use their limited resources on those groups and not on going after individual users". This still leaves many Americans searching for a more precise answer. Which distributors? How large is considered to be large-scale enough?

Today, in an exclusive interview with the drug czar, I finally got some answers.

Q: I’d like to address the scope of your continuing federal crack-downs in Washington and Colorado with regard to marijuana. What do you consider to be a distributor and a large-scale grower exactly?
A: Well that’s easy! Anyone who makes it worth our while!

Q: Wait, what?
A: Why do you think we give one hot fuck about busting growers and not states’ rights? It’s the asset seizure, stupid! Legalization means they have to pay state income tax. We just pull those records, look up who’s making any real fuckin’ money off of this and kick a bunch of doors down come April 16th. It’s at least on the top five easiest ways we’ve come up with to stealing money and besides, daddy needs a sweet new Corvete!

Q: So... it’s not about public health, getting drugs off the streets, reducing vehicular accidents or diverting users to treatment facilities?
A: [stifling laughter] Ask the National Institute of Health.

Q: Going back to asset seizure. Does it concern you that treating assets as people in court is perhaps unconstitutional?
A: [four minutes and forty-seven seconds of consecutive raucous laughter, during which “like we give a fuck about the Constitution” is heard nearest I can tell]

Q: While you’re being refreshingly honest, I have to ask, did you mean what you said about not using limited resources to go after individual users?
A: Unfortunately, for the time being, yes. The DEA really does have a limited presence in Washington and Colorado compared to the number of recreational users. Now depending on how many jobs we end up being able to add with the fat stacks of cash we can steal in the upcoming months... well, we’ll see what happens in a year’s time.

Q: I think that’s about all. Thank you for your time.
A: No problem. It’s nice to get this off my chest from time to time. Just one more thing.

The interview is concluded by me being forced to sign a strict non-disclosure agreement, and I comply.

UPDATE: my court hearing is scheduled for June 25th. I face a fine up to $500,000.

Money simply points the finger, at who's supplying the most. I don't think you can find who grows commercially, as only three flowering girls are legal.

I feel the title is a bit misleading, there is absolutely nothing here that hasnt been said before and is not the 'answer' we are all awaiting from the AG eric holder, which is the only thing that might actually make a difference at this point. tbh, I thought this was an april fools joke till I saw it was posted today. I cant say I believe one word of the 'interview' to be what was actually said.

Funny. Scarily accurate... but funny.

Money and power huh? You would think people employed to look out for our welfare would be concerned about peeing more money down the drain, fights they ultimately cannot win, and the notion that they might be incarcerating people who aren't hurting themselves or others.

The people of Colorado and Washington have said, essentially, to leave them alone because the are fine with marijuana.

We have been conditioned to look to our government for protection against organized crime. But they seem more like a crime syndicate themselves.

Sad f u c k s they are.

An even better sign is to see law enforcement not caring any more either.

They've stated around here that they're flat out not interested in getting involved with cannabis.

Park county has declared they're not interested in helping the feds go after locals for stuff that's legal in colorado.

The real issue I see is the paperwork trail. What steps could be taken to provide a layer of anonymity? I don't see it happening with them trying to regulate it to death.

Stay Safe! :blowbubbles:

you are right hydro-soil there will be no anonymity for the businesses and they even want to ID everyone who buys at the outlets; reading through liq wa gov site i saw somewhere some mention like they might want names on a list as you buy

right along w/ blending the product {whole flowers are too inconsistent}

idk though; the people have spoken & more & more as time goes by more people dont see the logic of prohibition @ least w/ canna

attitudes like we are joking about here exist but they are rapidly becoming the minority as people recognize the truths which have been hidden from them

I was thinking about this yesterday. Behind the scenes they are working out the details?.... maybe, but if they are, they don't want the little guy to know how to play the game. A lot of money to be made...

i have to admit i am wondering about that too

i sure dont want to see the producers end up being companies like BOTEC

kinder gentler prohibition indeed

the people have spoken but i dont see them saying 'we want homogenized pasteurized weed product'

On a serious note,
how do you think that the clowns who, their whole life, have believed in the prohibition of that evil weed, have busted teenagers and sent young adults to prison for cannabis or psychedelics.
how do you think those hardline oldschool muthafuckas can look at themselves and think they are right, now?
for a joke(scary), put yourself in their shoes(in your mind), try to think how they could gather that much evil and vile hatred in their hearts, and trust me, it is hatred...but how can they now know how wrong and stupid they are?
sorry, they disgust me for real, cokcksuckin evil hating bastards who search out peaceful people and destroy thir lives because they can because thats thier job
