Here is the link to a documentary on fracking.

No matter what political affiliation you hold you owe it to yourself and family to bone up on what fracking really is.
Once you watch five minutes, you will be compelled to watch it entirely.
After that, you will understand how we have all been lied to. You will NOT see this on any of the national networks! They are in bed with big oil and have become some of the biggest whores on earth.
IF you believe in freedom, liberty and your rights to clean water; watch the video. Otherwise, suffer the consequences along with your kids and family. Cancer is coming to all of us whether we like it or not.
If we don’t stop fracking, fracking will stop us dead in our tracks.

Ethylene glycol, Benzene, Toluene, mmmmmmm sounds so good, doesn’t it. Drink up America! Compliments of those good hearted folks earning 20 million dollar bonuses each year, at the oil companies.
You can stop buying Prestone anti-freeze for your cars radiator, there will be enough in your tap water. Think of all the money we will save! Yippie!

Fracking has been going on around here for quite awhile.. I wont drink the water here, have'nt for several years! I buy my water from the store.. You would think the cost of fuel would be going down, with all the oil the usa is producing! North Dakota is booming right now from all the production! Greed will keep the prices high, and the sad truth is the ones making all the money only care about lining their pockets! Not future generations...

The Governor of Colorado is wanting to sue a couple cities that banned fracking within city limits. He claims the cities are not allowed to supersede state rules which are more lax. My feeling is fracking is dangerous because we don't know the long term effects. A couple of years ago some people were able to light tap water (on the news) because fracking ruined their well. The state government said they were imagining things!

The people who approve this are among the same "people" who approve locking people, human beings, their neighbors, our neighbors away in cages, wrecking their lives, destroying what they've earned, taking what they've saved because we derive benefit from and/or enjoy the cannabis plant?

Please think about this every time "we" send or support sending troops somewhere to support whatever "regime". ( ours or theres) to commit murder or drop as we did in Vietnam millions of litre's of dioxins which to this day results in the horrific birth defects you would think are in horror movies to the thousands. ( I'm old so this is my baseline. If you would like to choose a different baseline and there are many albeit not as extensive as se asia please feel free to do so. I believe this is all tied together. Like karma. We did that to a poor people who never did anything to us. Now it appears we're going to fk ourselves with this.

I originally come from that part of the country and I thought it was still a fact that places in the Poconos have among the cleanest drinking water in the country. Crystal clear and ice cold. Like perhaps in Maine, or Vermont. So this is also going to be destroyed with the results of fracking?

I seen something about this on 60 minutes or Dateline don't remember which show. I agree this is fucked up but what are we gonna do someday oil will be gone and we need alternatives. Humans are gonna be our own demise we will kill our own trying to survive...

there are no excuses for fracking.. it isnt an alternative it's a form of what we have already but that is even less viable and destroys lives and nature, this time at home, before we just watched the jungles/forests die and the earth turn black in other people's countries..

i mean its not quite as dumb as killing millions in north africa and mesopotamia to get their oil but it's definitely on the list of most stupid corporate/government endeavours ..

the only way it is worth it is if ruining lives is worth something to someone because the return for the amount of investment is a joke.. not even factoring in environmental damage, which is a given that they wont pay for the damage, that's if it is even possible to clean up,, which it isnt..

not only is fracing going on where i live ,i am a part of it ,the worst i have seen from this practice is earthquakes ,it seams to make the terra unstable ,as far as water burning ,that water well has been that way for years ,fracing stops the pressur release of natural gas by venting ,the fracturing process as far i now has not affected any water wells as the fracturing takes place so deep down they far surpass the deep of water wells ,

There is an excellent documentary on this topic. It was on a Satellite/cable program about 3 years ago.

The hard truth about this is: While this country was morning the losses at 911 and the war, Dick Cheney, passed laws to allow 'Fracking" that does not meet EPA standards. That ticks me! Not to be political and I sure hope this thread doesn't go that direction but, Many people across this nation can put a flame on their kitchen faucet and make a torch!

What keeps their homes from exploding?

The earthquake a few years ago, on the East coast, U.S.A. was the result of this nasty way of mining.
"Fracking
More Evidence Shows Drilling Causes Earthquakes."
Not to mention all, the water lost in the process. Water will be like gold, one day. People must drink water, we need to learn a better way to commute(before someone starts eating their own). Which is why, during hard times, like now, are good times to put in super trains, as the National Parks were, during bad economic times.

North Dakota; It has been like the Gold Rush in California. I read a newspaper article that said housing is bad. Motel prices are the highest, anywhere:
In May 2012, North Dakota passed Alaska to become the No. 2 oil-producing state in the country, which the Wall Street Journal attributed to the use of fracking. North Dakota's daily production of oil rose to 575,490 barrels, slightly above Alaska but still far below Texas, which pumped 1.7 million barrels a day.[1]
North Dakota:
Tells a big story. The cost of labor, etc. is too high and most likely helping, to increase the cost of gas.

Wish I could find that documentary; it was well worth watching. It begins with a young man telling a story of people selling off mineral rights and being offered money for his. He then explains a story of how his parents were hippies and their friends; they built this home, before he was born. He wraps a human element in the story and travels to numerous homes with methane coming out in the water faucets, etc.

We need water and cars need oil: Who is winning now?

I'm living right in the middle of the biggest oil play in the world. Fracking is all over the place. Water has always been a scarce resource around here. The hydro fracking at two miles underground doesn't seem to be a problem. Using local fresh groundwater to frack with is what concerns the hell out of me.

No unfortunately, no fracking has been happening in my house for a while.
Need to get out and meet girls more.

They did some fracking, where the mafia is said to be real big. People debate if fracking causes earth quakes. They must be getting desperate to drill???

Water testing is usually available through your local county 'environmental services' department, testing can run from being free to about $15 making it a bargain of an asset available to you. They'll likely give you either a small bottle to hold the test sample or a sterile plastic bag.

If you're going to test your water I'll give you 2 very important tips to get it right.

1) Wash & rinse your hands w/an anti-bacterial soap thoroughly. Clean your torch and anything else you'll come in contact with to take the sample, cross contamination is a problem you'll avoid.

2) Use a small hand held propane (propane only, not butane) torch to heat the spigot you'll draw your water from, do this to kill any/all bacteria that is hiding in the cool dark damp recesses of the spigot. Be careful to consider any rubber or plastic gaskets & washers, remove them & anything else you can that might skew the results when heated.

The best spigot to heat up & then draw from is your outside garden hose tap, it's short and usually brass, a good 5-6 second blast from your torch will kill all bacteria. Direct the flame from your torch straight into the spout. Once you've heated the spigot allow your water to run for several minutes before taking the sample. Return your sample to the county & wait for the results.

EDIT:
definitely use your garden tap if you have a water softener system, outside taps are never inline w/soft water systems. Also, don't ever test water being passed through your water heater, water that's been sitting amongst extra sediments will give off false ppm readings.

hope this helps any of you wondering or worried about your water quality.
