Well, I was starting from scratch after a little break and a move that cost me my long time compost reserve/process. I went with some bagged for a base. Just thought I'd share a couple pics of what I think is a healthy bed grow. These are JohnnyBlaze (f) x SweetBlue @ day 7 12/12
This bed is in a freezer that I modified so temp is under full control and CO2 is provided. 315w Philips CDM bulb

The bed mix is as follows:

1c.f. Miller's Mix for beds - miller's grow fiber (?), peat, forest humus, coco, compost, some perilite and their A=Z mix which is just azomite + EWC.
1c.f. Miller's Compost - Composted manure, alfalfa, grain by-product (whatever that is), composted forest humus, some other stuff I can't remmember

To these I added
approx 12lbs of Zeolite clinoptilotite (kitty litter) - not clinoptilolite
composted horse manure (little composted straw to) - about 6-8 gallons
4 gallons of peat/dairy fiber 50/50 found a 1/2 bag in back yard
4 cups Azomite
2 cups of really old blood meal
1.5lbs kelp meal
4 lbs of really old espoma flower tone (on clearance $2.00)
2lbs of a local product that has alfalfa meal, cocoa meal, soft rock phosphate, sul-p-m, feather meal, mono? clay and some special fermented edible mushroom extract LOL!
couple small handfulhttps://www.icmag.com/ic/picture.php?albumid=41995&pictureid=1010606 ls of dolomite
1 cup alfalfa meal

Basically, whatever I had laying around or was on winter clearance and cheap. Let it sit for a month watered with molasses and mixed every day or two.

They have had a couple teas the last had a little (2tbl in 3gal) of high P bird guano, alfalfa, compost, molasses and kelp meal.

Thanks for the positive feedback folks! I love how easy it can be. It really was a budget start-up as I had been putting a lot into new lighting tech and the freezer cab in general.

My plan is to leave the bed largely as is, root balls in place and all. Just to remove some material all around the edges and till down to the bottom 1/4 or so. I have a good worm operation starting to take off and a nice backlog of medium being worked and ammended a little every day. So I will probably till to ammend with that. Then I will try no till and some layering while.

While, this is not my first organic "bed in a cab" and I had some experience, it had been a while. I read a ton on IC in this forum that helped me settle on what to do and how to take this. All the great info here is so appreciated!!!

Regards,

Azeo

Wow! those are some really thick stems. I'm interested in your lighting, looks like a pretty moderate color temperature. Have you flowered out with this type of light before, any differences?

Strain sounds delightful too, blues are great all time stuff wishin i had some now. Looking forward to seeing how they progress!

S4703W - The light is a Philips CDM Elite MW 315w in the 930 (color) or 3100K. This is a relatively new type of ceramic discharge halide or ceramic metal halide. They make an Agro that retails for around $500.00! I could not go there. Too much cash. I also have a 942 or 4200k on the way in the mail. The PAR values of these is stellar and they burn reasonably cool with a 30,000hr life rating and extreme output maintenance. The rub is that they are not an off the shelf item and they require a very specific eballast.

I have the enclosed rated version of the one in the last link.

Thanks for the interest. If you have any other questions on the light, just head to the growroom lighting forum and the last 5-10pages of the ceramic metal halide sticky. I am not the only one using them.

As far as the girls...... This cross has been my best personal pollen chucking result ever! I had 3 very, very special Johnny Blaze females and one really nice, stinky, resin producing and slow to flower SweetBlue male that got together. This strain absolutely thrives in any medium, but really goes off in organics!!!

Good stuff Azeo, might have to try one of these out. Hows flowering going? I'd be interested to see some more of those thick ladies budding out

ASA - Not much to report other than my stupidity! They are doing well considering that they suffered 121F for a whaile one day....... That was an intercanopy temp and the tops got blasted. I had installed a new Day/Night temp control kit I built (something that is like riding a bike for me), andI had it set to aggressively and short cycled the compressor in to an overload condition! That was a tough moment for them. Thusly, they are struggling to produce like normal.

I will throw up some pics as we get closer to finish. Day 39/40 of 12/12 right now.

Thanks for asking!

Ha Ha!! Yeah more plants, more plants, more, more and more...... Think that the pics already posted really illustrate what kind of growth can be had with organics. Heck, this was a sparten, low buck and not on-par with my previous mixes they are in. Next round will be great! I have my own very high quality worm poo, and a really great mix just waiting to go! Clones of these three and three others (same seed stock but never flowered) are ready.... Just need these girls to finish.

Hell, I found my CO2 solenoid timer had crapped and they had been CO2 starved for a while so, I am way ready to these to finish and to re-set. This round was one of my worst ever with a new freezer cab, new lighting tech, CO2 defficiency, my control mistake that overheated the girls severely....... Probably still get 6-8oz or so in 4sq ft. Should have been more like 12-14oz.

I had a similar mishap in week two in my room. Wasnt there for lights coming on didnt check on em for 5 hours or so.. The controller flipped a breaker and my exhaust and my fans to my lights were not on. The room was so hot I could not enter, I thought something was on fire when the heat hit my face. Water was dripping from the ceiling. I was freaking out until I noted my plants were all praying and looked for the most part happy. Thermometers on the wall were maxed out @120. I think it had something to do with silicates and or kelp extract the heat didnt stress them out much at all. I also foliar fed them yucca xtract as soon as the room cooled down. They didnt miss a beat. I dont know if they coulda made it a whole day like that though... Sorry to hear about your mishap. I thought the same thing when I saw your ladies underbush, wow nice stalks! healthy canopy too... Hope they turn out ok.

Thanks for sharing,

FE

Thanks FatherEarth. I really don't know how long they were cooked for. With the layout of this converted freezer, I really can have the light right on the tops. Like 8" no problem. The air is circuited just right. But, if the compressor and or fan do not operate as needed, it is like an oven for the tops.

Glad to hear you made it through your heat wave!

Here are some pics of some of the buds. Again these are a seed run of a cross of 3 different Johnny Blaze laddies that were pollinated with by really nice SweetBlue male. Beans from the three ladies are all mixed together. 41days 12/12

35-40days left on this pheno.

Probably 21-30days left on this one.

Group shot.... Not my best run this time, but such is life!

Regards to all! Azeo

Thanks for the kind remarks folks.

Having my own homemade EWC is a real treat and the simplicity of this type of grow is so easy. I have been layering dandelion leaves as a mulch. They don't last long before they are gone. Noticed a good few worms in the bed lately. Absolutely sure they are from fresh hatching of cocoons that were in the EWC.

Will update with pics every so often.

Many regards,

Azeo
