Bushman's x Thai 82 @ 52 days 12/12

Tried to feed some molassses. Rapid fan leaf yellowing was the result. Flushed her, hence the 'droopy' look.
Excuse the smart phone pic quality.

Seller's description:
Green Hornet - Thai 82

These were made with seeds from Thai Sticks that were brought here, at great risk, back in `82. If you want to experience an old school, hazy Thai plant this is it ! The name comes from the label on the sack the oringinal seeds were in.

PS:Not my pic but close enough to what I grew in 2004.

Bushweed - Beautiful plants, and very nice looking cure to the Haze bud.

Question: Would you say that Thai genetics are the dominant strains down under?

I live in a borderline Mediterranean\temperate climate in the U.S. Generally, I think growers here have given up on tweaking sativa strains to adapt them to the local climate, and given themselves over to indica dominant plants. They use sativa to increase yield of the indica. I should probably move to Australia.

However, the politics are starting move here. I never thought cannabis would be decriminalized here in my lifetime, but there are now two states that have now legalized albeit under strict regulations and heavy taxation. There are about 15 states that allow medical grows.

Unfortunately, I don't believe the quality will come back until the profit motive is removed from the equation. Unlikely, unless decriminalization is pure and widespread.

What are the politics like in down there?

Please keep posting the pics that make this thread so great.

Thanks, and All the Best.

Lovely to see this gold & copper shade indeed :) An outdoor Haze after a year of curing, yummmy.
An NL x Haze, the best-effect plant a friend could find in a pack a few years ago, flavor was pine, black pepper and herbs:

P.S.
By the way, this photo was taken in 2011, the bud was from season 2009, and recently this same friend told me there's a jar left of this plant waiting for me, I wonder how it'll look and smoke in 2013.

In my experience feeding molasses and brown sugar is very effective, I wonder why the yellowing?? Could it have been another factor? Or could it be strain dependent? Hmmm

Sativa hybrid pics

Hey,

I'm growing some sativa hybrids, have a little grow journal going though I don't update it much. I'm about 10 days into 12/12 and have taken pics now that everybody's shown gender.

I have 3 strains going:

Nepali Rukum (Malberry -- I know, but they were free seeds)
G13 Haze (Barney's)
Warlock X Blockhead (Warhead) (Beanhoarder)

The Nepalis are the most sativa looking. I started LST on all of them when they were sprouts.

Here are the two different Nepali plants after I re-did the LST today, with a wee shot of the beginning bud site. I realize this is not impressive for you experienced growers, but this is my first grow so seeing where actual buds are starting is a thrill :dance013:

The stems have a medium strong pine smell.

The least impressive of the lot are the two Barney's. I've been feeding lightly, granted. But one of them is especially wimpy compared to the others, and the better of the two is the runt of the other two strains. They don't have much of a smell, but they smell garlicky when you rub the stem. The bigger one smells stronger.

B (second runtiest)

I think this is my favorite plant of all, the Warhead. These plants started to stink bigtime while still in veg. They smell very strong of pine and mint. I re-did the LST on all of them tonight. (The leaf damage is from a cat.)

That one almost looks like it's been topped because of the LST -- it grew a secondary stem that's now as thick as the main one. I probably pinched it, too. When I re-did the LST tonight I pulled that one a little too hard and it split a little right at the joint to the meristem. I loosened it back up, hopefully it will be OK. It's a pretty tough plant.

There was only one male out of 7, here's the stem from it after culling. They're not very tall but the stems are hella thick. The male was my supercrop experiment, looks like it worked.

Hi Thaibliss, yes the most dominant influence in Australian outdoor cannabis is from Thais imported from the 60s up until the early 80s; OG veteran 20'thai even stated that his Old Mother sativa line was derived from a 50s Thai stick. There has also been an influence from Indian landraces, for instance it is documented that the 18th century botanist Joseph Banks introduced cannabis indica to Australia with the first English fleet, mistakenly thinking it was cannabis sativa - hemp. This carries on to a discovery of hundreds of hectares of cannabis growing wild along the banks of the Hunter river in the 1960s, which was apparently not hemp. There has also been the influence of cultivars from other SE Asian countries such as, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Indonesia. And perhaps the second greatest influence after Thai, has come from equally potent cannabis grown in Papua New Guinea and imported here in large quantities throughout the 80s and 90s.

You'd think that would make us a mecca of sativas, but the influence of Skunk and other more indica strains from the Dutch seed banks has decimated local populations in the last 20 years. There are however still the old time growers around who hold the goods. They're just not that easy to find.

Most Thai sticks were said to come from about 17 degrees from the equator, which is roughly the same distance from the equator as Wallyduck (Ducksfoot breeder) lives. So Australia probably has the best climate in the developed world for finishing pure sativas, and crops of 20,000 + plants are annually found in these latitudes. But despite the sparsely populated landscape, one has to be careful. Australia is a liberal democracy with one of the highest levels of Cannabis use in the world, but politically we are some years behind the US in decriminalisation and legalization. There is one place in Australia where cannabis is smoked openly and with impunity; a fair number of the Australian forum members live near there/here, but that is in a single hippy town that has a population of 5000; of which 4990 are pot smokers. There has been a recent push to decriminalise medical marijuana following the developments in California; a move endorsed by a number of highly placed academics, and social commentators, but the government is unwilling to move forward until more research is done domestically to illustrate the benefits.

Its fantastic what's happening in the US with regards to legalization, but I suppose if you're a sativa fan then it's still hard to finish sativas outside properly unless you're down near Mexico or in Florida. And I can't comment on how good indoor grown sativas are - I know dubi says they're not as good as outdoors, but there seems to be a lot of folk enjoying them. Australia's a nice place to live, fairly safe and white (sic), but if I was you I'd also consider Belize and Costa Rica as pretty enticing options.

Or you can do what a number of old Gringos I know have done, and that's move to Thailand or Laos and see how far your dollar goes - yes!

Here's shots of some of my Thai acclimatised to Oz conditions...
