Alright, I just finished up a grow and started this one up too while winter air is cool. My other thread was intended to be ongoing with this run included but hey, I changed a bunch of crap around and added another 600w of lights... let's start fresh.

Previous Work:
850w Master Kush - ECSD - LA Confidential, Feb '10
850w ECSD - LA Confidential, Apr '10
600w Master Kush - ECSD - LA Confidential - Sour Grapes, Oct '10
1200w ECSD - Sour Grapes Vertical Hoopty Madness, Feb '11
600w OGKxChocolope - ECSD (and detailed setup pix), Mar '12
600w Jack Flash - Lemon Skunk, Dec '12 (just finished 2/12)

Negative pressure in big tent pulls through a couple intakes, but one is connected to the veg tent's roof (220w T5HO 4foot fixture). This works just fine.

attachment.php

Dual 600w HPS (Plusrite bulbs, cheap and always worked great, seem to be working fine and brighter than ever on my new cheap digital ballasts too). I made a ghetto bottom bulb holder kinda like Ichebod Crane did. It's sturdy enough though I do need to lower it a bit. Plants are maybe 2.5 feet tall and just started flowering 2/13. I have Marlo style PVC kick-back screens to throw over these bitches in a few days. Front middle lemon skunk has extra long blumat drip line so I can take her in and out to access the rest and I may actually leave the screen off her and just super train to make this easier.

attachment.php

Yea I included the water/electricity thing before someone says something. Temporary, I doubt I'll even fill the reservoir before I relocate ballasts to the wall or something once I locate my stud finder. Really pleased with my new ballasts. As pictured, I run maxibloom 7grams/gal from early veg onward, with some kool bloom blasts at 5grams/gal hand watered a couple times during flower.

attachment.php

This thing is the fucking bee's knees.
I have a 6" duct from a crawl space (it's like 25*F in there right now) and a noisy freaking 6" duct fan that pulls in to the loft where my tents are. I have a 6" T duct, and one end tapers to 4" and that runs in to the bottom of my flower tent. I extended the sensor of the WIN100 and it hangs on a limb of a plant in the tent. When it gets too hot, the 6" fan blasts some air down the 4" tube, but also some air blasts out the open end of that 6" T duct I mentioned, cooling the entire room as well. It works great. It will not work when it gets warm out so I'll put it to use elsewhere or for an A/C unit.

Anyway, really pleased with how I arranged everything, much better use of space than I had before. Any questions just ask, will update as frequently as I can.

^Thanks man

So this thread will obviously be boring for quite some time. I had a mishap with my marlo style reclined screens. Sucks since they took quite a bit of effort to make (not really sweating the $10).. but fuck! Too big, too wobbily.. getting em to sit on the front edge of the pots just wasn't gonna work even with a shit ton of zip ties.

Ended up screening 3 of the 4 walls of my 4x4 tent, the front can't be screened cause I gotta get in there and shit. I took my biggest jack flash and spread her out all peacock like, not sure how it'll work out. Seriously hate both of these strains, thank god I live in CO - will be finding replacements for my new apartment.

Anyway this is my last grow in this house and I had three large moms- two lemon skunk (especially hate this leafylarfy fucker) and a jack flash. I cloned em just for fucks sake, but I threw em in my veg tent and will be flowering em out there. It's 4 feet long x ~2 feet deep with 220w T5ho above.

Sry for blurry pic of empty tent with screens in

In the next few days I'll replace the T5HO bulbs to a warmer color temp and flower it, 9:01am to 8:59pm. Then I'll start running both 600w's in the big tent. Can't have all of it going at once cause power limitations so junk flower tent gotta go in reverse of big tent.

Also made some dry ice hash using trim from last run of Jack Flash and Lemon Skunk, as well as some trim from last year's runs of diesel and OGKxChocolope. Had a ton of trim (still have a ton of trim), but got a ton. I don't smoke anymore so I can't even test it, but it freaking REEKS from ten feet away and is torturing me. I'll test'er'out once I find another job and have all the drug test crap behind me. Buddy enjoyed a complimentary 3g piece I gave him. Someone loaned me some bubble bags and dropped off the map like two years ago (no printing or labeling on em at all) so I have no idea what micron screen I used but probably one of the bigger ones. I didn't really want to have a tiny quantity of pure whitishgold and I'm color blind as SHIT so this may be very green hash but whatever.

attachment.php

attachment.php

And some jack flash I kept for when/if I ever blaze again (kept a couple nugs this size, about an 8th)

attachment.php

And maybe 10 grams of the Lemon skunk. Again, I hate this fucking plant... and I hate both of them, and I hate how I ended up drying and "curing" them as it was a total fail. Most of this was trimmed up from the *I'm way too lazy to trim these little leafier shits right now* that was BONE dry just a few minutes ago. It smells SO much better than the shit I tried to slow dry and bag/burp. FUCK!

attachment.php

attachment.php

SO stinky. SO sticky. Had to bust out rubbing alcohol again for hands after just handling this shit for pics.

Thanks guys :D They actually are kinda tied to the screen already but I gotta let em finish stretch before I finalize all my branch placement and spread their legs a little more :D

Yesterday when these photos were taken marked 8 days of flower - I don't think the stubborn lemon skunks are gonna do much stretching but the jacks may have another week of stretch in 'em. I kind of forgot those details last round, cept that the lemon skunk is not a good vert plant and that the jack did better but still not great. I really, really miss my ECSD clone that I had for years, it was just so leggy and stretchy, the perfect vert plant!

I guess my tactic will be to spread out the lemon skunks as much as possible, then tie the branches from the jacks to fill in the giant voids they'll leave. Some branches were a little too short to tie back (especially the bulb-facing/front facing branches, damn those things!) so that's why the bulb is so high.. bottom of bulb is a couple inches above the tops of the tallest plants - just encouraging everyone to reach to the heavens.

Thanks mungio :)

I bought a clay extruder off amazon per Pipedream (I believe it was)'s thread from years ago. Got it 1 day shipping too because I really...really wanted to press things properly. Including what I gave away, I ended up with 30 grams from an unmeasured amount of trim spanning a couple harvest, not nearly all of it though. Unfortunately, I put 9 of my 10 lb block of dry ice in my freezer... I guess 10 lbs was the minimum increment to purchase in and I used very little for the yield I got hah. I checked it yesterday and expected to lift the nine pound paper bag outta the freezer and it weighed nothing! It simply disappeared!

Anyway, I pressed everything with this clay extruder. Very easy to do. Weigh out kief in a little cup on my digi scale (accurate to x.xx). A hair over 2 grams was my mark for most of these, figuring I'd lose a little each time I pressed due to it sticking places. After that, dump on to a folded piece of paper, crank down the clay extruder pretty far and drop a dime in. Dump kief on top, screw on cap, compress til pretty tight (all in once cranking motion, unlike pipedream's instructions).

attachment.php

After it was compressed pretty tight, I rotated it in front of this space heater evenly for like 10-15 seconds. Then I'd crank it down til tight again. Do that process once more and then throw in to a ziplock with ice pack in it as pictured. I was delighted to find this ice pack in my freezer so I didn't have to come up with another solution.

attachment.php

After a minute in the freezer pack it was cool to the touch - back the crank up a little, unscrew the bottom cap, crank fully down and pop out the puck of hash. Again this shit is a little green I guess, but a friend and his girl came over today and I let her pack a giant bowl of some lemon skunk and top it with some hash from one of my pucks. She was floored and it smelled heavenlyhashy in the house. I love the result, so much cleaner than I was trying to ghetto produce. Very dense - gotta heat it up a bit to break a chunk off or razor blade a bit off.

I'll snap progress pics of the plants on Monday- it's my birthday weekend so I'll be out raging and hopefully there will be more change come then anyway. Looks the same to me - maybe I peek too often.

Day 13

Day 13

Assuming stretch is near over, again don't remember from last grow (which was first time with these two strains). Oops. Biggest jack flash (bottom right in group shot pic, and one pictured in other pic) is about 3.5 feet tall.

Tomorrow I'm gonna start flowering out the T5HO tent which will get 220w off this breaker (rather.. relocate it to opposite timer of flower tent) and I'll start blasting the big tent with the full 1200w.

The two 600w bulbs are very close to each other now but I made my PVC stand too tall for the bottom bulb, I've just been too lazy to drop it down since I zip tied the lamp cord to it and I knew I wasn't gonna start running it til stretch was nearing completion or done. So anyway, top bulb will stay at same height since the lamp holder is maybe 2 inches higher than the tallest plant's top, and bottom will go down over 6 inches so the bulb holder is just a bit higher than the pots. Shouldn't be too much wasted light :woohoo:

Day 15-16 I guess it is...

Day 15-16 I guess it is...

So this weekend my reservoir ran dry to my blumats while I was doing the birthday celebration thing. No big deal, the plants still take a couple days to dry out completely and I was eager to see the kaboom that would occur once they got watered again.

Mixed up 5 gal on Monday and let 'er rip. I have noticed in the past that my blumats seem to occasionally run amok if the reservoir runs dry and that's what happened haha. Heard reservoir pump slurpin' about 16 hours later during lights off and just checked today. Still a bit of water on the floor but the plants seemed to like it - thank god for removable tent floors, double insurance to protect my carpets

Anyway, tied a few pieces back and spread a plant apart a little more, still some work to do but I didn't want to get wet feet. Didn't want to clean up the water either since my ambient humidity is like 15%, they probably have enjoyed it.

My top bulb is making a high pitched noise that I don't like.. I'm sure all the dogs in the neighborhood can hear it/hate it - not sure wtf is up with that, so I'm just running bottom for a day or two. They've had 15 days of upward stretch so I don't think a little inward will hurt them til I can fiddle around with both lights and then do the much anticipated 1200w blasting.

Not bad buddy.

I'm doing something similar.

Have a question though, you're in CO, I'm in CA, southern, it'll get hot here soon, you think I'll be able to run bare bulbs like that for a run until it gets AC hot, like one run.

What are your temps in there right now, lights on/off?

I'm running a little hotter than I'd like right now, day time temps reach 81 or so, which is just too high without gas....

I'm thinking I might have to go ac right away.

Then I'll need some sort of recirculating (air) set up for the tent.

Anyhow, what are your temps like presently?

Thanks - D.C.

I peak at <80* right now cause of how I have fresh air being brought in. No way in hell can I grow up there during the summer - this will be my last run for the year and I'll be lucky if they aren't all suffering come late April.

Cool tube didn't help btw, nor did having a hood in there with just 600w - my loft is simply unable to be occupied by plant or human during the winter, it's bullshit. Terrible insulation - I'll be outta here after this harvest. As crazy as I feel saying this.. I kinda hope I'll have a house with my girlfriend when my lease ends at the end of July. I made this a no nonsense kinda relationship, I'm always going to be doing something quirky be it growing plants, being a nerd and writing software, whatever.. I'll get my own project room in the basement and blow it up with both :D plants, pc controlled grow room with custom software, yeayyyy.

Gluck keeping your temps down. I'm just runnin while I can.

Day 25

Day 25

Man what the fuck. Is the 'tolerance' on the WIN100 thermostat user defined? I have my shit set to 78* (just started running 1200w finally).. fan cuts on, outside air blasts in tent, it turns off. OK so fucking wait more than 5 seconds before coming back on! Let it creep a couple of degrees?!

I thought the 'polling' of the probe was like every 30 seconds cause when I was testing it, I'd place it in front of a space heater and it'd take like ~30+ seconds to even register the change from 62 to obviously hotter than that blasting out of a space heater. Son of a bitch this fan on/off is driving me nuts, just gonna set it to like 74 for tonight so I don't have to be driven any more insane.

Anyway, day 25, full fuckin' tent, finally FINALLY at 25 days flowering chopped the legs down on my bottom bulb holder so it's at a more appropriate height and fired er up. Going to be a pretty nice harvest I reckon, jack flash definitely kicking the lemon skunks ass in structure but NOT in bud density YET, the JF stomped the LS in yield last harvest though as well - just does better. Did their first kool bloom blast today as well.

Thanks, I've managed to get my temps down pretty significantly, now I almost feel like I could go bare bulb with the same results.

For sure, almost, seeing as that other fan should be here soon and the filter.

Still cold at night, thinking I can get a round off quickly!

Thanks,

D.C.

Thanks man - I ended up setting my digital thermostat to 80*F and put the probe further away from where cold air gets forced in when it gets too warm. Last night the crawl space was 35*F, the 6" fan pushes air in to not only the sealed loft (okay, may as well call it room) but the 6" forced air has a T duct, and tapers to 4" that goes straight in to the tent too. I guess that the probe being too close to the whooshing cold air made it cut off, then the second it stopped getting blasted by cold it reached the cut ON temp again.

Anyway, it cycled a few times after I set it to 80* and then it just stopped coming on, so somehow 80* was maintained for the rest of the night. Works for me.

I had some weird setups when I was using my cool tube vertically, and when I vegged horizontal under a standard sealed reflector that had 6" in/out ducts on it. Basically, I didn't have two fans at the time so I'd split my light/cool tube exhaust with a T right before it exited the tent, and have a scrubber on one end of the T. Non-smelly air either came in from the room the tent is in (since one end of cool tube or reflector went out of the tent), the rest of the smelly air stuck IN the tent went through the mentioned scrubber.

Who knows how the CFM was split between scrubber and cool tube, but since scrubber always came off a T and stuck horizontally, the CFM was probably lower than that going through lights. Either way, it wasn't enough to keep temps in check that way and I found bare bulb with just all my air being sucked through the scrubber to work better.

I don't ever want to ditch bare bulb, but I really don't want to quit growing until late fall again like I've done most other years. I think I may try and re-implement the cool tube with fancier ducting methods and two fans - always be scrubbing and exhausting 24-7, run a fan on the cool tube during lights on. Having two separate window exhausts would be key with this so the hottest air can vent outside for sure, and the scrubbed air can vent outside as well, maybe on a flange so I can recycle some of that warmish air back in to the room next winter.

Ah well, TLDR poster strikes again - just thinking out loud.

I was thinking about another round of light pruning but since I'm now blasting full 1200w, a lot of what would normally be sucker branches should be getting enough light to do some good. I seriously don't know how people grow plants bigger than about 3 feet in vertical/single600w without having all the branches ~1 foot below the bulb become popcorn, the top buds just lean in and shadow em.
