Lollipopping, when to trim

J

Javadog

Hello,

I have a minor SOG or AK-47s in a tent and am wanting to
trim to lower growth (1/3 or 6" which ever is less?)

I am at 15 days since flip, and intend to let these go 10 weeks if
they need it to fully develop.

The question that I have is whether it is best to let the stretch
finish before I take this action? When is best?

Thanks,

JD

P.S. This is the side view that I am seeing today:

I am thinking about turning this:

As soon as you know it should go, then it should go. Why let the plant waste energy growing something that will go in the trash?

If you might reveg then you should leave a little something for next time.

Mr rabbit got a point with removing it asap..

Well, but...
I fear that such a trim/defo would stunt the plant..

Im far from an expert, so concider this like an idea more then a dogma:
Remove all the stems over like 4-5-6 days, and make sure you leave the fanleafs intact.
When the stretch is 100% complete (40% of flowertime) you remove all fanleafs over a week.

I base this statement on posts from ppl i concider as gurus, and the leaf defoil from this thread; https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=252669
Look for DHF posts.. :)

But, as I said; im not an expert, and havent tried it so I dont know for sure...

Stay safe n' good luck!

Femora...thank you. That it precisely the thread that gave me pause.

Specifically that one post by DHF when he describes how the technique (stripping growth)
had burned him the first time he tried it....but then that he had realized that it was the
timing of the action that got him into trouble.

Here

Thanks again!

...and the conclusion is that removing lower growth is best done after the stretch.

Thanks again,

Err... Uhm.... Well... That conclusion dosnt have to be entirely true..
It seems quite logic to remove the branches (not the leafs!) to allow the plant to redirect its power to whatever is left at the plant to make those parts "bloomable".

Dunno if this is the case.. But it makes sense when i think about it...
The tricky part should be to know how much to remove before you stunt the growth.. ;)

Well, Ill leave it to someone else to correct me if im way off.. :)

looks like a good opportunity to get some cuttings to me

wouldnt be so sure theres empirical data on the benefits of lolipop ~its a subjective/anecdotal thing whether it really benefits yield {'time yield continuum' ~lol}

one thing it DOES do is make it easier to harvest

i like to have done any pruning pre-flip but i do fall in the minimal pruning camp

Thanks for the time bro

P.S. If I end up losing on over-all yield, but with that weight
that I do get focused on fewer, larger, buds, then I will be happy.

P.P.S. I also intend to take small branches whole, but will be leaving
the fan leaves for taking not too long before the chop.

Yeah java. Make them look like ur picture maybe even 1 more node up. Very strain dependent . Think of it like this all the stuff that is shaded now is only gonna get worse after the stretch or as buds thicken. U want all buds as close to top of canopy as can. Unless u like a bunch of fluffy hard to trim shit.. U got this man
