Well, never said I was a Buddhist. I agree that materialism is lame but I am not yet ready to forsake my home and warm bed to be a guy living under an overpass.

I already stocked up on ammo and they serve several purposes. Barter, defense and hunting for food. We have seven thousand gallons of fresh spring water on hand at all times and a fenced perimeter with dogs and video surveillance but I am non violent and would probably surrender before killing anyone.

You are wise to forsake violence first and material things later IMHO.

buddhist principals are to not remain in ignorance,(not saying anyone here is),if theres somthing real happening in front of you and its dangerous to you and society the common sense logical thing to do is address it the best we can.
im not seeing any contradictions,in philosophy.shaolin monks come to mind with reguard to my reasoning.

look for the pre-1964 quarters and smaller denominations of silver.

perhaps you could start pricing seeds in PM's,that would be a quick way to get PM's for your purposes.

it may even be a educational opertunity,a much needed one for the masses.

I think collapse is imminent. I think world governments are running out of policies they can throw at this problem and borrowing their way out of this is unfeasible.

My grandma used to tell me stories of the great depression, I don't think we are quite there yet. But I think most of what we see is a facade put up to hide how bad things really are, but this facade is fragile and crumbling.

I also think if it happens most people will be worse off then they were in the 30's. Most people today don't have the real world skills they need to survive, like how to build things, how to fix things, hunt, fish or how to grow their own food.

I feel bad for children and future generations, they most likely wont have it "as good" as we had it with material possessions and such. I also think the future depends on raising children to be strong and well adapted to the world of tomorrow.

This guy was getting lots of rolls of half dollars and showed opening the rolls with several silver half dollars in one roll. But, it is your ability to adapt to a changed environment that is what measures true intelligence. The ability to go with the flow while keeping your head above water is the balance we need.

Youth and fitness is an advantage and old folks have had a good life already but getting old is hard. Old age faces us all and as we get older we fear death less. My concern is just staying comfortable as long as I can.

We have solar panels and charging equipment, two generators and a room full of foods in cans and containers meant to last but we eat the stuff to recycle supplies.

Luckily we have large gardens and a very wild place to live with many deer and elk easily available. I also have a nice river with fish and salmon to be had. We can our foods and dehydrate foods also. Mrs. bog has skills and in season we make wild blackberry jam.

I will share with my neighbors and we will share in the defense of each other because we are a very small and somewhat isolated community. We have no plans to bug out but if you live in a high population area the roads could become impassable after a large earthquake for example. Depending on your situation you will need to make good choices so be prepared is my advice.

Anything could happen.

thanks for sharing some of your philosophy BOG, that helps put the prepping in context and I really respect your opinion.

although IME, the more I plan for something the more it's going to happen differently than what I planned for and expected, lol

I think a reality is the likelyhood of our power grid being taken down. It would shut down commerce (eg food supplies) and our monetary system which is currently highly dependant on the credit card (elecrticity). Transportation would slow tremendously almost immediatly, no gas. Cash and hard gold/silver,for local purchases of whatever and maybe guns and ammo, could be means of barter, definatly for ones personal defence until the grid comes back.

The economy is doomed, in one shape or another. The real question is, are the lead politicians inviting this incoming doom? You know, to spread the worlds wealth around, have everybody pay their fair share?

The worst has happend already, our country is much stronger now than we were at this point in the great depression. Next up, inflation. It will be hard, but not riots hard.

Slow decline in standard of living with no real collapse. My guess anyways.

Nuke, asteroid hit, plague, etc., well then maybe a collapse.

All economies are a ponzi scheme. They all go kaput. Obama and the spending that is going on is speeding this up. The countries do not collapse by necessity. They restructure and go on.

Long term.... gold and silver, ammo, real estate, food. Anything but paper currency. It is doomed in the long term.

Yup the "no hesitation" targets. Add in the ammo Dhs bought in hollow points world wide riots gold being removed . This year looks to be it.

I've been sorting through rolls of half dollars for silver, there were a lot more around a few years back. I noticed as the economy goes to hell the older folks that had coin stashes start spending them to eat so Ive noticed more popping up. I also save all nickles and pre-'82 pennies . The copper pennies from '82 and under until the wheat pennies are red brass, perfect for making bullet jackets.
