Sorry to be dense, but what does CSG's / OJD's ~ SSSDH stand for? I'm guessing Super Silver Diesel Haze, but who are the breeders? Those are some amazing buds.

Thanks

<3 Tesla
CSG = Connoissuer Genetics
OJD = A very friendly breeder/grower/seed co owner, who has nothing but the utmost passion for the plant, and has beyond exceptional customer service. :tiphat:

SSSDH = Super Silver Sour Diesel Haze.

Indoor test grow Picar'ghani x Kali Mist (clone) at about 4 weeks of 12/12. Mother plant looks much more sativa than the clones actually.
During flowering the scent is a light cat piss, with a tad of pepper & lemon, but now that she's drying, she totally reeks of cat piss, and only cat piss. I guess I'll name her "Piss Mist" eheh...

I have seen some pictures reported to be Columbian Gold and Oaxacan that have that dangerously sharp and rough looking serrations. Wouldn't it be lucky to have an heirloom version of the Gold from the past!

Side Effects from Hybrids?

Side Effects from Hybrids?

Sort of :off2:Sorry if this topic has been discussed here already. I don't have the time or patience to weed through nearly 500 pages.
I read an article a while back but I can no longer find it. It was basically a negative rant on all the sativa/indica cross breeding that's gone on here in the US over the last 5+ decades. The author blamed these hybrids for all the nasty side effects folks get from cannabis consumption...including, but not limited to head aches, nausea, insomnia, various and asundry body aches and pains, anxiety, paranoia, chest pain, difficulty breathing, heart palpitations... The author strongly encouraged everyone to stop smoking hybrids and switch to pure land race strains, primarily sativas.
Over the past several years I have all but stopped smoking pot (except when I've had a few drinks and can't help myself LOL) because I experience a number of these side effects when I smoke. I'd be suprised if I smoke more than 0.25g/week. A time or 2 I've had heart palpitations so bad I thought I'd have to go to the ER. I don't believe this was related to anxiety. When I started growing 6-7 years ago I went through a variety of techniques and mediums, but switched to all organic soil grows 3-4 years ago w/little or no change in the effects I experience.
I'm wondering if 1: the articles author is correct, or full of BS. 2: If anyone else experiences these side effects from smoking hybrids. 3: If so, does smoking land race strains or sativas aleviate these side effects? 4: Could these side effects just be related to my changing body/metabolism as I've gotten older? 5: I'm looking for suggestions as to what I should try to grow and smoke. Finishing times and space restrictions are not a consern ATM. 6: If haze is a good option for me, which of the readily available haze strains should I try &/or avoid?
I don't know much about different strains. It all seems very confusing to me. I grow and smoke what friends and family give me, or what I've gotten from baggie seeds. I don't really care what's what, or about lineage. Probably because I haven't found anything I've enjoyed smoking since I started growing.
Thanks in advance for any help I receive :tiphat:

I cant comment on this whole post, and I think its a good question (s) but I would hesitate before trusting most "haze" strains, because they are probably hybrids. I would put together a list of stuff to grow based on this thread. IMHO I would look at some of ACE's (Oldtimer's Haze) and Cannabiogen's gear. The Destroyer I've got going is not too extreme for an indoor, and this is my first grow so its good no matter the experience.

Others are much more knowledgeable than me but my *impression* is that Central and South America strains are a little bit friendlier. African strains can be on the speedy somewhat paranoia axis, Thai likewise.

I don't think you can say that I Landrace will necessarily be less paranoid or have less of a heart Beat increase effect, But I do think you can say that most hybrids tend to muddy the waters, Are not as clear and clean in the effect.

Once you get that really clean clear high, You will wonder why you bothered with that other stuff so long, And what is the real balance between quality and quantity And time taken to mature.

Ditto on the knowledgable front, but I've heard that Mexican sats are speedy as well.

Colombian sativa, the best of both worlds. Calming and exciting at the same time.

Peace from Colombia!

I'm an opinionated old fart with a chip on my shoulder who has smoked for something like 44 years... so I can't help myself.

1: the articles author is correct, or full of BS. Mostly correct.

2: If anyone else experiences these side effects from smoking hybrids. Yes.

3: If so, does smoking land race strains or sativas aleviate these side effects? Maybe. Depends on the strain, individual (cutting and person), and growing techinques, havest window, and cure.

4: Could these side effects just be related to my changing body/metabolism as I've gotten older? Yes. I think being older has affected my opinion of narcotic stains. I smoked sativas for many years before I had a pure sleepy indica. I liked it at first. Not much at all now.

5: I'm looking for suggestions as to what I should try to grow and smoke. Finishing times and space restrictions are not a consern ATM. I don't have personal experience with Cannabiogen strains, but it sounds like those strains are what you might be looking for.

6: If haze is a good option for me, which of the readily available haze strains should I try &/or avoid? Haze may be tricky since you could easily get the tachicardia or paranoia if harvested late enough to be potent, but too early which could be too stimulative for you.

I have a SAGE individual that sounds about right for you.

Good Luck.

I smoke a Haze/Thai cross from Ace and really enjoy the high, motivating and not too paranoid for me. A friend of mine was gifted some and she returned it a week later! She had some serious anxiety attacks that week. So it is really dependant on the individual.

I had a Malawi girl, also from Ace, that was a sweetheart when picked early. She put me in the best mood everytime I smoked her. I didn't really even feel stoned/high, just really happy. This flies in the face of most Malawi reports, though! Picked late she was much more potent and stoney.
SOTF's Sweettooth is said to be a very happy, up type of canna.

Btw, I've had all of those symptoms you've listed from bricked Mexi/Lumbo/whatever to commercial buds(hybrids) to my own grown Indicas and Sats. It's all about the set and setting compounded with the type smoked....

Absolutely.....I find the "happy quotient" typical of early-harvest Sativa. It's as if the plant knows it's coming to maturity and it has some of its energies concentrated in specific directions, ones you describe and that I enjoy, before it has to relent and admit all powers and effects.

Early on the happiness energy is found to be typical; later the psychedelic/intense/trippy aspects rule. with these, for some more than others, paranoia can take over because the person experiencing the weed has difficulty "letting go". If you accept and let go, paranoia becomes just another view of the many faces of cannabis and doesn't threaten one's Ego/personality/viewpoint/beliefs.

Set and setting are not considered in most smoke reports, as if the smoke itself determines the entire experience.

For contrast, if you have ever worked with mushrooms or Peyote, do you think that the experience you had was static and always had do to only with the number of shrooms, their potency, or the number of buttons? Or was the place, time, and your physical and mental health at all involved?

hahahaha.....the answer is, to me, obvious.

I'm not sure that smoking landraces is a guarantee against the side-effects you mention. Some african pot are definitely not for the faint hearted.

Still, this makes me remember about things i heard from several people while travelling in Kashmir, Himachal or North West Pakistan.
Everywhere I have heard people telling me that smoking weed ( or too fresh hash) is not good for the brain, nor the heart. really not good.

I have noticed several time that smoking uncured pot would produce unwanted effects, like anxiety for instance, or physical discomfort.

My theory about that, is that cannabis produces compounds which are unwanted, because of these side effects they can produce. And the only way to get rid of these, is to give the stuff enough time, for the right chemical reaction to get on, and get rid of these nasty things

hash-producing cultures know their stuff and give it time enough for a good curing. About ganja, it is oftenly sun-dried, or anyway, quickly dried, in rather hot temps, and this, plus all the time it takes to reach the consumer market helps to get rid of the unwanted stuff as well.

The problem is that pot & hash chemistry is simply a white spot. As far as I know there is no research being conducted about the chemical evolution of cannais resin, from the time it is just dried, then through curing, testing it weeks after weeks (if not everyday), to see how things are working in there.

I know some people working in psy and what not, and it seems that there are more & more people having bad problems after smoking weed. IF it because there ar emore & more people who smoke ? Or the result of media brainwashing ? OR is there something we haven't found yet about ?

Just my two cents...

Thank You All!

Thank You All!

WOW! I didn't expect such a rapid or + responce to my questions. I want to :thank you: all for your in put and opinions :tiphat: I will check out Aces and Cannabiogens gear
I want to clarify that I do not suffer from anxiety or panic attacs. I came here for help, and I would admit it if I did. I work in the medical field and know that anxiety can lead to cardiac symptoms. That's why I mentioned that.
I've known for years that smoking cannabis is a truely personal experience and everyone has a different high. I'm frequently blown away by all the people who tell me that pot puts them right to sleep. I've never had that happen to me, even in my youth. I'm always awake for hours and hours after smoking. I'm getting the point that smoking sativas is the same. Everyone has different experiences. Still, I'm looking forward to growing and smoking a few sativas of my own :rasta:
Thanks again everyone. Yall stay safe & :smoweed:

If I may add a few thoughts...

If you BELIEVE that cannabis can make you go nuts and what not, then chances are high that you eventually have to go through some nasty times at some point.

I remember the first time I smoked pot. It was sativa, landrace from former Zaïre. Most people here would call it shwag and bot even bother to have a single puff. Brown and dry, with stems & seeds. Schwag...
After a nice smoking session with buddies, i went back home flying on my mopped and was totally far out when Ireached home. As soon as my mom saw me, she freaked; "what have you done ? have you seen you eyes ??".
"uh? It's ok mom, I only smoked some pot" did I say while I went to the bathroom to check at my eyes. My, they were like cherry-tomato. Never been so red, and looked like they were near popping out.
Suddenly, i started to freak. My mom's anxiety was starting to take over me, and bam, here was the bad trip. "Oh God, i'm gonna die !" Now I wa starting to feel really bad, panic building up and so on. Lasted a few minutes until, bam!, I suddenly remembered that, hey, you just can't die from smoking weed ! and in a matter of second, the panic attack was back to a potent, psychdelic & highly pleasant high, just laughing at me for coming to think such BS.
If your' persuaded that cannabis can hurt you, then at the slightest unwanted effect, chances are high that you start to freak, with anxiety building up, like kinda snowball effect, until it starts to reach the heart in some bad way.

The psychedelic/psychotropic experience results from the meeting of 3 factors; a product, a user and a socio-economic frame. All three plays their own role.

Though this weird increase in the ratio of people experiencing real bad effect could have (partly) physiological origins (after all, the western society is kinda degenerated), I'm pretty sure that a very lot of them originated mostly in the BELIEF that if you smoke cannabis you'll go crazy & what not (You'll even find users who think that smoking weed can fry your neurons, mercy...), and also in the lack of consumer information, making that too oftenly people don't know what they smoke. If what you need is some calming & sedating indica, it's better to avoid a sativa dominant strain, but you can't always be sure of what you're sold. Lack of knowledge and mis-belief can have terrible effect.

Here is some Mango Hz....nice smoke....needs selection to find a strong one...the strongest I found, had the least vigour and was surprisingly the earliest flowering (in the first pic)....it also had the best over-ripe Mango flavour that seemed to improve the closer you got to the roach...
