1000w Sativa Tent: Cannabiogen Caribe & Destroyer, Female Seeds C99

Today, February 1st, is day one of the flowering cycle. The grow tent is 4x4x7, with a 1000 watt HPS and a 4'' inline duct fan. The light is on a timer and set for 12 hours of darkness and 12 'daylight' hours. During the daylight hours the tent will remain open for added ventilation.

The tent was tested with a high/low digital thermometer and humidity monitor for 24 hours. The low temperature was 67 F, and the high was 83 when the light was on and the tent closed. With the tent open, lights on, the high is 77 and the low is 73. Humidity is stable around 25%.

Destroyer: This is the queen of all my plants (24 total). Destroyer is a 100% sativa hybrid of mexican/colombian and thai. Flowering time is said to be around ten weeks. She was planted from a feminized pick-n-mix seed and germinated at the beginning of december. She is 60 days old, +/- a day. She was started in a one galon container in foxfarm ocean forest potting soil, and was fertilized med/lightly with foxfarm growbig, homemade compost tea, and fish emulsion 5-1-1 for the past three weeks prior to flowering. I added two cups of homemade biochar to the potting mix, and mixed in granite dust at 1/2 cup/galon. The destroyer was the champion from the start. She germinated first, beating all other seeds by at least 12 hours. In veg, internodes were perfectly uniform, and growth was rapid and vigorous. Leaf structure was very sativa, but growth structure was (and is) compact and totally without stretch in veg. She showed preflowers after 28 days. Although Cannabiogen recommended light feeding, she seemed to be able to take as much as any other plant, and always recovered from stress (repotting, etc) rapidly.

Caribe: The caribe was the second strongest grower in the group. It is a backcross of Jamaican '85 with Jamaican '85 x (Northern Lights x Haze). Leaf structure in the beginning was VERY indica, more so even than my Reserva Privada OG Kush or other Indica dominant strains. This resolved itself over time and now the leaves are fat, hybrid-esque and deep green. This girl has a mutation that produces an even number of leaf blades on every fifth leaf, 10 instead of the usual 9, and the extra blade protrudes from the center of the leaf over the central blade. Ill try to get a pic of this later. Same soil and conditions as the Destroyer.

Female Seeds C99: Roughly average grower in the group, but very vigorous and healthy with no deficiencies. I LSTed her as soon as she showed sex (~a month). She was supple and very responsive. Same conditions and nutrient regimen as the other two. Nice sativa leaves, lots of branching in response to LST, and average growth rate in veg.

Since this tent is housing three sativas and they are taking up a little more than half of their available space right now, I am considering leaving them in the dark for two to four days to slow some of the upward growth. Feedback appreciated. Bear

Ever thought about flowering them under mh? Its supposed to limit stretch. You could do it for the 1st 2 weeks then go to hps.

No experience with this myself... yet. It seems pretty well documented and agreed upon however.

I have heard the like. What ive also seen done is flowering to finish under a combination of MH and HPS. This seems like it would be ideal. I could put two 600 watt lights in the tent, I suppose. Do you think 1600 watts in one m2 is overkill, or could that work? I might invest in some T5's or something, maybe a 400 or 250 watt MH, just to augment the spectrum.

I think it would be overkill. You'd be pushing 100w/sqft.

T5s could work - a couple of 2-bulb 4-footers on either side. Or if you want to spend less, hang a 23w cfl in each corner.

Ill be interested to see what you decide and how well it works.

I have a feeling that GD London '72 is going stretch like a motha...

Is 100w/sqf the generally agreed upon limit? It must also be about lumens then. I think I want to try to get some UV in there too. We'll see but for now they are happy. Long time to go ahead.

Im really at a loss for when I want to start flowering the GD London, but yeah shes looking very sativa, more and more each day. Shes not too stretchy yet. The really great thing is that for her, I have 17ft ceilings. :dance013:

The thing is I cant flower in the greenhouse after mid-march...

So I'm going with another 600 watt MH light to control the stretch. The theory is that the tent will be open when the lights are on, and that its a 4x4 tent (16 sqft) and 1000watt+600watt=1600watt/16sqft=100w per square foot. I think they like it and its been two days. Pics coming.

The C99 showed flowers very rapidly (within 3 days). The other two were a bit slower but are now clearly in the early stages of flowering.

Pistils are shooting everywhere and clumping up. I just pollinated one branch on each plant with DNA Genetics Chocolope (thai pheno)

Destroyer x Chocolope - Death By Chocolate :D

Seriously though, Bear, everythings looking so healthy and happy. Looks like the sats really like you.

wow no way, I have been planning this cross for like 5 months now and that was what I was going to call it.

Well played sir. Just a quick question, my set up is roughly the same as yours, how do you rotate your plants in the grow room. It seems like i run out of space and i play a frustrating game of musical chairs. I am contimplating on rigging some kind of light rotation to fix said issue and doing a sog. Suggestions? Anyway my friend nice thread!

Thanks a lot my friend. I read your post this morning and thought about it throughout the day. For me, I sort of judged the size of my plants when I started flowering based on the size of the HARVEST plants that I saw in pictures on this site of the same strains being run. I was originally going to throw an Ace Malawi into the tent as well to round things out with four plants, so one per every 4 square feet, but I decided not to based on the size of the plants I saw in other grows. Now it seems that the plants are naturally filling out the space themselves and self-restraining (to the extent that they cant punch through the tent). I trim HARD on the lower branches of the Destroyer and the C99 because that will induce upward growth. Remember, any lower 'popcorn' branch that you trim off will be more than replaced in bud development in the upper colas. As far as moving the light goes, yeah this is ideal in the sense that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, and you should attempt to replicate a plant's natural environment as much as possible in an indoor grow. But you have to do a CBA (cost...benefit..a...) is it worth it to you? For me, this grow is a personal smoke grow for me and my girlfriend. It looks like it will be more than we can smoke in the amount of time it takes for the clones of these plants to produce a harvest again. Of course, a heavier harvest is better always, but for me I feel like my plants will adapt themselves to the environment that they are in and produce under the circumstances that they are accustom to.

You could try using a soft twine to tie up the branches, basically clumping the colas under the light. This will let shoots shoot out and fill the empty space, but make sure to leave a couple inches between each cola to allow for leaf and bud development.

Is your setup reflective? If it is then I probably would not worry about moving the light much. The side buds/branches will for sure get enough light to develop fully.

Damn, I had some other stuff to mention but im way faded, so let me get back to you. What are you growing, by the by?
