DWC 300W DIY LED SCROG Grow: AK47 and Mazar

Day 28

This plants are extremely thirsty. They drink and evaporate huge amounts of water and I must refill the reservoirs every other day.

Since I switched to flowering nutrients (Canna Aqua Flores A+B) the pH is extremely stable - 6.0 , no matter the water EC , which rise from 1.85mS (for fresh nutrient solution) up to 2.6mS (after two days without my intervention).

I noticed that the girls are more happy if I top the reservoirs with just plain water (adjusted to pH 5.8) , alternating with full strength nutrient solution. The EC is jumping between 1.85 and 2.60 but this seems to be very well tolerated by the girls, as they don't show any tip burns on their leaves.

The tallest top of Mazar shows some signs of heat stress because it's to tall now and very close to the LED panel and LED bar heatsinks (they are just warm to the touch - 40-43 degrees Celsius). One of the fan leaves from the upper part of this top have been literally burned by a 10W LED (it was my fault - I moved the stem and didn't notice that leaf and the following day it war dark brown and crumbling).

Both plants have already started to show some frostiness, but the AK47 is more impressive, with thricomes showing even on upper fan leaves.

It became very difficult to work with them (because the stems are 50-60cm long) and I decided to move the platforms just once a week ( to be able to take pictures of AK47) to prevent 'accidents'.

Should I defoliate more ? Last week I removed an entire plastic bag of fan leaves and under screen larf buds and grow tips and now the girls seems more bushy to me.

Day 35

Today is the first day of the 6th week of flowering for this two girls. In the last week the stretch almost ended (the tallest tops still grew 1-2 inches) and the buds became bigger, and everywhere I can see huge long thricomes.

The smell of the growing room has changed dramatically on the last week, as Mazar became very sticky and spread a sweet and heavy fragrance into the air - something that remember of over rippen rotten fruits, not pungent at all, but very persistent.

Yesterday I did a complete reservoir change and I hit the girls with a full dose of PK 13/14.

Today I intend to remove some fan leaves to allow better penetration of the light to lower buds.

Well, I was in this situation couple of times in the past, with plants growing above the lights, but everything was OK in the end. On my last grow I had a G13 Haze that literally grew between the LEDs, pushing on the heatsink , and those buds were the most compact and full of resin, with a very strange shape.

No sings of bleaching, just some serious burns on the leaves that accidentally touched the 10W LEDs. I didn't have the chance to see light bleaching on my plants so ...

Day 42

AK47 and Mazar have just started the 7th week of flowering. Last week they have been feed with strong dose of PK 13/14 and the effects are now visible : the buds are spreading in all directions, white hairs are growing everywhere, small leaves and new calyxes emerge from them and the air is full of their fragrance.

The PK 13/14 have altered the pH stability (especially on Mazar's reservoir) for the last two days and I intend to do a total reservoirs change today or tomorrow.

I can not tell which of those two girls have the strongest smell, I just feel a deep, persistent woody aroma, sometimes with tint of rotten sweet fruits, sometimes earthy and with tones of sandal wood. If I touch the buds the smell persist on my hands for hours.

FYI high P is not needed. It will effect the smoke by making it burn the throat, so be sure to flush > 5 days before harvest. See hydroponic=research VEG+BLOOM formula, then look at the numerous threads on IC for confirmation

Tomorrow is the last day with PK 13/14 in the reservoirs and then I will give them just flowering nutes, reducing concentration each day by adding just RO water (adjusted to pH 5.8). Starting with day 56 they will receive Canna Flush for one week and then just water until harvest which should be after day 65.

As I said previously, unfortunately the Hydroponic Research Veg+Bloom is not available here in Europe and I could not find any re-seller to ship here.

Whether you could get it was not my point. Go to their site, look at the NPK ratios, look at 2-3 1+ yo threads here using it. Awesome results, very low P compared to 99% of flower/boosters sold today

Day 49

The effects of PK 13/14 started to show on the last 2-3 days. The buds are fattening up each day and the smell has changed from a stinky and pungent weed smell to a more complex fragrance. Last week I had to install the ozone generator on the exhaust duct and all the 'bad' smell is gone.

Last night I took a sample bud from Mazar and I dried it the microwave oven. It wasn't the best looking bud after this rough method of drying, but the smell was totally surprising : after several rounds of 30 seconds at 50% in the microwave oven, the bud started to smell like roasted chestnuts with a little touch of vanilla or other sweet spice. Very unusual (I never felt that smell on a cannabis bud) aroma but no taste - yet (and I believe the taste is gone when the bud is quick dried on the oven).

The smoke was surprisingly smooth for a non-cured bud, not to thick, and the effects meet my expectations : no to stoned, but felt everywhere in my body (especially legs) and it was trippy and induced me what I like to call "circular thoughts" ( deep thoughts, starting from an idea, moving slowly to others and eventually landing back to the original idea, just for another trip start).

Sunday I also took a small bud from AK47, but it was nothing special on the high. In fact it was not a real high, just a beginning of a high, which told me it's to early even for a test smoke.

What I like in this round is the bud density, on both strains. They are rock sollid nuggets, extremely packed. The AK47 buds are like very young fruits, with no air between calyxes and a lot of pistils that grow among them, trying to reach the surface. I wonder how they will tun on the following 3 weeks .

Day 56

Time is passing by and less than two weeks remains until harvest day of AK47 and Mazar.

The buds are swelling each day, the smell is amazing and very strong and new tones can be distinguished day bay day.

They are not eating so much now (just 2.5L of water/day) and I didn't give them any nutrients. I just top the reservoirs daily with RO water and adjust the pH (which tend to drop to almost 5.2 on Mazar's reservoir; the AK47 is stable is just minor fluctuations between 5.7-5.8).

The EC of the solution has been gradually decreased to 0.9mS/cm (last night measurement) and I will keep lower it until weekend when the final flush will begin (with one day of Canna Flush and 3-4 days with pure RO water).

And now let the pictures to speak for themselves :
