yeah they are starting to crown.. few more days and we should be good... seeds are so much slower to flower than clones. usually have the crowing within a week but these weren't showing pre flowers b4 I flipped the lights, so I wasn't expecting them to show quick.. they are smelling real good.

Those auto flowering seed I bred start reeking after 5 days of veg growth its amazing will be chucking some outside soon.. fastest plants I have seen that start smelling within a week from hatching.. want to do some selections from these F2s I have will get an early crop in just to make F3s which will go out in the spring.. auto flowers are very hardy plants I had some outside over xmas and they froze and defrosted and carried on growing lol the soil was solid and th plants drooped but when they thawed out they grew again.. very slowly admittedly but didnt die

Any other pointers would be great. I got evernote, but haven't started playing around with it yet. My primary reason for getting it was because I hate reading pdfs on my computer.
CT Guy

That's not much of a problem on the inventory list project - I'll put together a template and send it up for you to try and then editing is a nothing.

In the mean time you'll want to install the following:

On your MacBook:

Download and install Pocket which makes downloading a page, PDF, .doc, .rtf, .txt file a simple mouse click. That document will be 'held' in your Pocket 'cloud' account. From there you can send the file to Evernote with a mouse-click.

I'll send you my AppleScript that you attach to a new folder on your desktop which will allow you to drag & drop any file into this folder and that document is then automatically uploaded to your iTunes account that you access via the iBooks app.

Download and install the Evernote app for your MacBook and this is a standalone app as well which allows you to control your Evernote account - editing files if necessary, creating sub-directories (Folders) to manage your documents, tags, etc. This makes searching much easier.

On your iPad Mini

Download & install the Evernote & Pocket apps for the iPad at the App Store

Install iBooks from Apple's App Store, install the Kindle Reader software as well. Between these 2 apps you can download books that you purchase from Amazon and Apple. There is no need to mess with Barnes & Noble's Nook software. That deal is ovah - they missed the boat.

Get those installed and then I can show you how to integrate all of them so that you can download any file (almost) and have it on your iPad with 2 possibly 3 mouse clicks.

Just to repeat: Download & install the Evernote & Pocket apps on your MacBook

Download & install Evernote & Pocket for your iPad and iPhone if you wish. You control which documents appear with each device through iTunes on your MacBook.

duck soup

If you have any plans to use a handwriting app with Evernote which will allow you to create notes, sketches, cites, etc within books and documents you'll need a stylus and the premium ones can be found for less than $20.00 - you can spend far more than that but it will be money wasted.

There are also plug-ins for Evernote that allow you to use the built-in camera app on your iPhone & iPad so when you create a new note you can take a photo with this note-entry app direct and once that's accomplished you can add voice notes as well as enter text with the photo - all without having to leave Evernote.

And down the road you can create an Evernote directory that can have either public or private access and this would work like a web page or blog except you don't need a domain hosting account - everything is handled via Evernote direct. This is a good feature for businesses where you have staff members needing to access or contribute data for a project.

And all of this is free - the actual apps, the services, etc.

Backlog of questions for Coot:
1. Activated dry yeast foliar - smart or dumb?

2. Made my own diastatic malt powder - steep in tea & foliar, mix in soil, both, or neither?

3. Any info on Maxfields organics? Soil company based here in CO - im working to help them understand the weed market & industry for a new mix theyre putting out - some good shit going on including what appears to be an actually proprietary organic amendment if I take em at their word. (They asked me not to make it public but I'd love to bounce it off ya in group or PM)
IBB

1. I can't think of any benefit from using bread (brewer's) yeast but that doesn't mean much.

2. Both

3. The Maxfield Organics' web site is not loading right now but I'll check later after dinner and get back to you. Several sites I've tried to access this afternoon are down for whatever reasons.

Thanks for the link - I have it on an iPad and will read it later. I'm with CT Guy about reading files on a computer monitor. I skimmed over the introduction and it's definitely a subject of interest. Thank you again for posting it and I'll get back to you tomorrow morning.

Garlic is a powerful fungicide (Sulfur content) and a good thing to use. Chitosan is not something that I have any experience with. I understand how it's made and why it's used but that's really all I know.

back from a brief trip to the cannabis cup - enough time to verify that cannaventure seeds didn't have a booth, listen to subdrool spew some more loud obnoxious crap, and visit the kushman booth one more time.

I approached kyle himself and asked him the earthworm question which I had asked one of his minions the day before. he explained that earthworms are allowed in veganics if they are fed a strictly vegan diet, because earthworms do not actually digest anything, it is the bacteria inside them that do so. not sure how accurate that is...i know it is at least partially true, but at the same time bacteria have huge influence as to what goes on in our digestion as well...so there is a massive grey area.

when I asked him about nematodes and protozoa and soil mites etc. he said that they are welcomed in veganics because their inputs are so small that it doesn't matter (right...LOL) in the veganic sense. he said he didn't have the proper dialogue to explain what exactly veganic meant in that context (a.k.a. he was talking out of his ass) and the definition of "animal" was up to interpretation. he then immediately ushered me over to the kyle kushman website sign up area..and disappeared into the booth. classy.

on a real horticultural note:

If I have oyster shell chunks can I smash them to get oyster shell flour? or is the oyster shell flour we are looking for something completely different (mined from the sf bay if I remember right...)? I can't seem to find powdered shell here but there sure is a lot of cheap shell chunks at the feed store.

Here's some suggestions for apps that run on both your iPad and iPhone

Zite - this is a news aggregator. You register for an account and now you can set up Categories for the subjects you're interested in. Zite assembles stories from thousands and thousands of sources from around the world. When you open an article you have some options available: you can hit the Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down button and in the future you'll either see more stories on a specific subject or you won't.

What you can also do is send that article directly into Evernote so if you're researching a subject you can use this to assemble a mass of articles to review later.

Flipboard is also a news aggregator that is worth checking out. Same deal, register for an account and then select the types of articles you want to read. Flipboard & Zite are the same in many ways and very different at the same time. They're both free so there's nothing to lose.

Kyle gets it wrong once again...

Microbes breakdown materials which creates slime. Worms injest this slime and create & use enzymes which gives you castings. Worms also exude different enzymes through their skins which triggers microbial action on specific materials as well.

The statement about food stock is equally goofy - for the most part worms process plant material - it's not like you toss in a pork chop or a the remains from last night's Taco Bell run.

The OSP from San Francisco Bay is an ancient deposit from a small oyster that was about the size of a fingernail. The Oyster shell grit that you see at farm stores is from 'new' oyster shells and it is fed to poultry and livestock. The material is the same (Calcium Carbonate) so in that regard they're equal.

But we're back to mesh size with these mined mineral compounds and 200 mesh is what you want to use. Unless you're really bored and enjoy smashing the oyster shells from happy hour at Red Lobster - you'll need a good sized mallet.

That should be fun in July around the Inland Empire - LOL

Here's another idea to consider: OSP is 96.x% Calcium Carbonate as is Calcite Lime at 95.x%

At farm stores it is often called agricultural lime and it will be the correct mesh size and it's the same thing as using OSP. It should be about the same price - $12.00 for 50#

calcined clay and calcined DE are very similar. but, Turface is better for soil. since it is CLAY.

Using this material is nothing new. maybe the NAPA #8822 can boast an increase in sales due to literate stoners, but the material and equivalent have been used for many years in horticulture.

well, they may look similar in your hand, but much different.

just added a big handful of worms to some soil im going to be adding some seedlings too next week, I've not added the aeration yet so they are just in a soil/forest humus/wormcasting/coco with kelp/neem/chicken manure/alfalfa amendments just thought the worms would give it some more "life" before I use it... Anyone else do this?

Yes you can but likie all products it is a matter of where it is sourced. Some being better than others. I crush up mine and it is in a larger crushed form for chickens. I use a large stone that the water has rounded out that is in my yard and grind with a similar stone of smaller size. Takes some work but it reduces the size greatly.

an easy way to do it is sandwich the oyster shell grit between 2 flat slabs or slate tiles and rub them together or stand on them and twist your botty back and forth so the slabs twist and they grinde the grit up

You can smash the chunks into powder, no problem. I use chicken scratch and i like to use it because it has both powder and chunks for both quicker and slower releases.

On veganics, I guess those who invented veganics can make any rules they want. I just wish, like say fight club, or vegas, what happens in veganics stays in veganics...scrappy
