Adventure to Big Island, Hawaii

I'm supposed to go out in a few weeks. I've been out to Hawaii before, but never to the Big Island. I live in the Bay area now, which is way above Philly and Jersey for me, but I think the Big Island will be pretty nice.

Best of luck getting back there!

Once one lives on a Hawaiian Island it will always be in one's heart. Regardless of where one presently lives.

FriendinDeed, soon come back and talk story bra!! ;) Enjoy the Islands!

awe man I wish I could come back with a happy report but:

now in Hawaii's defense I have to say that its a beautiful place BUT being that im practically from the islands myself over time my opinion about islands is once you've seen one you've seen them all

second thing is that there were soo many if not too many factors that prevented me form traveling the way "I" would have wanted to travel around and even to Hawaii , Oahu to be exact.:
-with mom
-with wife
-with 2yr old son who is in his "parrot" stage/wants to copy everything they hear and see
-traveling under wifes company "banner" so to speak (so shes kinda representing her company in her mind when she travels like that, you know, discounts/perks under company name)

I think it was the northside we stayed on, all I can remember is that we were literally in walking distance of the Polynesian cultural center and that was cool as shit! house we stayed in/rented was closed off from everything else, loved that idea so much I may even want to do it for my own home in the future: the house itself was gated in, and the beachfront view was phenominal. surprised the shit outta my wife by walking outside naked a couple times, this woman can be such a prude sometimes man.

so pretty much everything we did was scheduled and time constricted and limited.

ok you have to bare with me on the names of these places/towns, shit was confusing as all hell for someones first time, anyway being across the street from the Polynesian center when we came out of the driveway we made/turned left and drove for a good while until we got to this really cool "area" im going to have to ask my wife for the specific name but I know we had to cross a small bridge.

as we got there we parked the car and went walking around and it rained the whole trip s that blowed as well, but in this particular area we were looking for food trucks and found one all black with wooden picnic tables. food was damned good.

go further past that and we came to a circle, decided that, that was enough adventuring for one day and decided to come around and head back to the house. as were coming back around I noticed a truck that had "bacon wrapped hot dogs" so needless to say I had to grab one of those before I went back home.

was a lil grass covered trailer more than it was a truck. dude behind the counter was cool as shit, started talking conversation went in that direction and I ended up being gifted a nice lil .7gr and one of the greatest hotdogs ive had to date.

went back to the house rolled that up smoked it on the last rung of the stairs leading to the beach with my feet hanging in the water. of course wife saw the blunt in my ear and immediately "you cant smoke that up here I told you" but the thing of it is what she expected me to do was walk/wade through the water to this lil slice of beach just to smoke this 4" blunt . . . yeah man, like I said I was not able to travel the way "I" lke to travel

our time at the house was up and we moved to the last leg of the trip which was the hotel in Waikiki, hyatt I think it was. that was cool but waaaay too commercial for me. it was like being in downtown manhattan on 5th ave with a beach in the background, so for me that sucked.

and what the fuck is up with all those ABC stores yo? there was like one everywhere turned, there was one in the hotel lobby then as soon as I came out and crossed the street there was another, walked a couple of blocks and another? anyway,

decided I would at least hook my brother up with something local while I was out there. figured I would search for the local headshops and find something but all they had was glass, nothing ceramic or stone like he asked for. the most they had were some 4"spoons that said aloha on them and that was lame. smokeys I think was the name of it.

my mother also went shoppin and came back with the news that the spots/tables/locals don't sell pipes anymore due to restrictions so that meant that I couldn't even get a nice lil wooden pipe for my vacation spot collection (I try to com back with a pipe from the place that we vacation to to kinda commemorate the trip), went to a burger spot, and the wife got all pissed off cause I put sugar in my 2yr olds water, she didn't want him getting hyper so for the last 2days we didn't really speak to each other no walk along the beach, nothin'!

it was kinda hard to tell who was local since my "local-dar" was thrown off by all the damned Japanese ppl!!! jesus, I started to ask if there were any Japanese left in any of the islands over there! DAMN. did love to see the guys who were making tiki carvings, that shit was truly cool, we got one for the house (I have half a mind to take that shit and turn it into a pipe!)

all in all, I know that the Hawaiian islands have an incredible cannabis culture besides a rich culture outside of the Polynesian cultural center. I wanted to hang/ chill/ smoke and congregate with the locals, that's the kinda vibe I wanted BUT to get that vibe im going to have to travel with other ppl and not the family, so im not counting Hawaii/Oahu out just yet. my plan is to revist these places on my own. don't have many friends and guys aren't like girls, they don't get together and go on trips together, well atleast my friends don't so needless to say I need new friends, just haven't found the right ones yet. I had a descent time but I know I could have had a better time.

I know my brother would go but he can be real nit-pickey and lazy so I can find a flight but if he doesn't want to go then he wont although he has no reason not to go. i'll make it back there under my own steam and experience it the way I want too soon enough. totally forgot that there were 5 islands so im thinking when im ready I could go hopping with an ounce and select beaches that ive investigated where I could just chill and burn one in the Hawaiian island sun, hopefully with a local lady ;) (yeah im married so what! lol)

I live on the Big Island, in East Hawaii. Puna to be exact. to put it lightly, this will be the polar opposite of NJ/Philly area. Im originally from Baltimore, have lived out here for over 11 yrs now. Get ready for a completely different world:)

As to your location your gonna be out in the middle of nowhere, north of Hilo is Hamakua coast, its extremely rural, and is smaller than small town style. Nothing is going on, its rural as rural gets.
Depending on the elevation you will be staying will determine how wet it is. Get ready for the rain, over 125+ inches a year, count on more.
I will say this though, when the sun is shining and its dry, there is no better place to be.
There is a Burning Man Regional on the Big Island; basically what happens is that a temporary city is built than burnt down leaving no trace.
As to this "burning man".. Its not happening any more.Got shut down by the authorities Trust me I know. Sorry to ruin your dream.

There are local gatherings, parties and whatnot, just get ready for kids, drunken kids and lots of em.. Not to say there are not cool things to do, because there are lots of cool things to do. You will see when you get here :)

Also you being all the way up in Hamakua will curtail your plans, it is a BIG Island seeing how most social events take place in Puna or Kona. There are plenty of waterfalls and hiking trails. Not so many beaches, waipio valley being one , however most beaches are in Hilo or Kona side and its a drive.

Definitely ask where the Garden Temple is (ganja sanctuary)and check that out!
That is a bit of a reach. Its actually people's home,my friend owns the place it is his " garden temple". This is my family and to say its a temple to be visited by tourists is not cool. Its actually private property and the gatherings they have there now are invite only sometimes. Im not saying don't go there, its a great place, however its not some cannabis temple that's on a tour. Its a sacred place and they do have events there. If you hear of one, that is the time to check it out:)

Hit the Natch (health food store)in Pahoa to see whats going down around town.
Yup, its the coconut wireless HQ.

Tons of snorkeling and good vibes all around.
This is true, TONS!! of snorkling, its epic.

Mainlanders have a better chance of being accepted when they don't bring an attitude with them. The way you did things on the mainland doesn't mean squat there.
Be humble, be friendly and you'll do fine.
Excellent advice

If you're planning to cash crop, it may be difficult. You'll have to export to get decent $$, as weed is plentiful and cheap.
I have to disagree withis ona couple points, I also agree with some of this.
Yes weed is cheap, if its ok weed. The really good stuff is not "cheap". And I know for a fact that the really good weed, the AAA never leaves the island.. Quality homegrown, here in puna is good money. BUT you have to have the right genetics. A lot of the weed I see grown here is just not that good. Mostly I see tons of import for sale CHEAP, cali swag,lol..

And now that I look furthur at this thread is from last year,lol.. I will stop now. hehe

yep definitely some good smoke out there if you know where to look. also a lot of shit, which i do buy when my dank runs out which is usually sooner than later. all kinds of people drop their nutsacks when they see how beautiful it is here, then they want to move here, then they experience the true islands and get island fever, then sell all their shit and move back to the mainland. i have seen it so many times i don't even pay attention any more. the only ones that stay are the ones that can afford their mansions here and hop on their plane to their mansions back mainland. if you can make friends, stick it out a few years, put the work in, you might be happy enough to stay. me, i was born to these islands so i am happily stuck in paradise. aloha.

Be careful who you ask for herb. We asked an older guy, who we thought would be cool, and he totally flipped out.
