Day 18

I don't know why, but I constantly forgot to update this thread, having pictures already uploaded to the album.

I hope the stretch is almost complete (and very impressive especially on some Mazar's top) and the vertical will be slow to nothing in the ramining 6 weeks.

The AK47 is amazing, I like how she grew, with uniform tops that hopefully will transform in baseball shape colas.

I can tell from know that the yield will not be at the level I expected when I start this grow, because the girls are to crowded. This days I will remove some of the fan leaves that block light to reach the bottom branches and all the larf bud developing under the screen.

In 18-19 days the tallest top of Mazar grew more than 45cm and AK47 almost 30cm.

You should have removed all the leaves under the screen, as far as I know, that's part of the idea with SCROG, not to have any leaves or buds developing under the screen..

Now that they almost reach their 21st day of flower I could remove all that excessive leaves without any problems. But because light is coming from so many directions is hard to decide which leaves spread shadows on others, so the defoliation process is quite annoying at the beginning.

I think in a couple of days you will see this girls almost naked

I have to commend you on all your hard work. I am a trades person that has a hand and foot in alot of stuff but my work doesn't even compare on the same level as yours, I am guessing you have alot of patience, me ADHD says it all. I am curious about the aquarium pumps you use, would there be a western equivelent. I am considering a DWC and I have the same gravity challenges as yourself maybe describe the type of pump? thanks.

Peace

One of the air pumps is Tetra APS300 (used previously on my 150L aquarium) . It's very quiet, have two separated outputs (and two membranes which last almost one year, but the replacement parts are affordable - 10$ for a pair of membranes with valves housing and O rings), but it's not adjustable.

The other is a cheap (I payed ~4$ for it) crappy loud chinese Boyu 360L/H AQUARIUM AIR PUMP which I recommend only if the noise is not a concern (very low quality and cheap plastic, but the airflow it's ok). This pump also have two membranes (did not had to replace the membranes in 3 years) and two outputs , and in addition it has 3 power level adjustment : LOW, MID, HIGH - I only used on HIGH. I have used this pump in the past to oxygenate the water in a 25gals. container holding 12gals. of water.

In each reservoir I have one air diffuser, 10cm long, 3cm diameter . This is the first time I use this air stones and they seems to be OK. They are a little bit loud because they rest on the bottom of the reservoirs (would been more quiet if were suspended them by the netpot without touching the reservoirs):

Initially I used one way check valves (used on aquariums) to prevent water leaking back on the air line, but they have jammed (don't know why) so I just waved the air hose through the screen above and this is enough to avoid siphon effect when the pumps are not running.

I was tempted to buy a more expensive Hailea V30 air pump but it was out of stock at that moment ( bad luck or just luck ?)

stunning design, hempfield :) plants seem to like it too!

They love it , maybe to much, because they grow like hell
Hopefully they will return the favor and payback with a good yield.

Hey there Hempfield, Actually I should have specified water pump, for changing out the rez, but thats for the airpump reply, I shall look for the same, I was having a close look at your Scrog modules what a nice peice of work, is that a screen or metal wire?

In each reservoir I have a low wattage aquarium pump (used also on the first week of veg to keep rockwool cube and hydroton moist), a really cheap type, like this : http://www.aliexpress.com/item/With...m-Filter-Air-Water-Pump-YB-180/567069697.html

I modify the inlet of the pumps so they absorb water from several holes on the bottom of the pump body, to remove as much water as I can when I do a total reservoir change. In addition I just lean the tubs a little when the reservoir is almost empty to remove all the containing water, but I did this only twice.

L.E. In this post you can see the pump, the bottom hole and the fittings : https://www.icmag.com/ic/showpost.php?p=5380751&postcount=42

Yesterday was the day of the official weekly update, but I had some Internet connection problems and I was unable to upload pictures.

Girls are very happy, they grow very fast and they seems to accommodate very fast with the flowering nutes (introduced on the reservoirs three days ago on Mazar and two days ago for AK47).

The tallest top of Mazar has reached the LED panel, despite the fact that I removed almost every fan leaves from it and I did pinched the stem in several places ( the only visible change was the thickening of the stem ). Seeing how thick this stems are, I believe that she is preparing herself to sustain heavy colas ( hopefully).

I spent almost one hour on each plant removing all the bottom leaves and all the growing tips that would never reach the light.

Both plants already show signs of frostiness, but in totaly different ways : the AK47 has lot of thricomes on the top fan leaves, while Mazar's thrics sparkles on the buds.

After defoliation the water consumption is almost half as usual, but I expect to be back on 3-4 days, when the upper leaves will mature.

For the moment, the flowering nutrients from Canna seems more stable ( the EC does not oscillate even when the Mazar had drink ~5L, and the pH increased just a bit, from 5.9 to 6.1 in almost 3 days interval).

Here are some pictures with the girls. When I took the pictures I did not notice that the Mazar closeup is unfocused and fuzzy, so I will replace it tonight with a fresh one :

This thread is mind blowing. I have always had a love for small cab/watt grows and I am blown away with the health and growth from those LED's, simply amazing......

I live in an area with very high summer temps and would love to have a LED tent for the summer.

Mad respect for your mad skills sir!

LEDs help me to forget about the heat problems (especially on bloom phase, when more wattage is used). Anyway, this does not solve the problem 100% because in the summer when the temperature goes above 30C, the LED cooling can became a problem if the fans are not properly chosen. My growroom does not have climate control (yet) but I want to fix this in the following months, to be able to grow even on July and August when we encounter up to 41C.
