Very helpful. Thank you for that. Informative indeed.

Let me ask another question. Would adding another Lamp, say an 300LEP in the center of the 1.3m gap between the pro 1000 fixtures be advantageous?

I would not do it. Yes it is much better for your light quality but it is adding another few hundred micromoles to your light and specifically where the lamps already overlap, and no way you can spread that light over that surface with one fixture. If you want to combine you can better combine 3x600 and 2x LEP for an even spread.

bigger is not always better ;)

heya whaz, this is a little off topic but you have already covered everything pertaining to the pro DE's...

my ? is about the LEP's...just wondering what the real working life expectancy for the LiFi module is? I am also curious as to how to go about replacing the module when the time comes (send it in to Gavita, hire a lighting pro?) and how much the LiFi module costs direct from Gavita...if you guys even sell/replace them at all?

I was gonna pm and still can but thought this might help someone else, let me know and I'll take this down asap.

Thanks for all the help and info...cant wait to upgrade my flower room to Gavita Pro 1000's and some LEP's in the veg room :D

Take care and stay safe

The LEP emitters should have a lifetime of 30,000 hrs (41.02) and 50,000 hrs (41.01). We have a recycle program for that, which means you get a rebate for your old emitter when ordering a new one. The warranty on them is 3 years.

We have detailed instructions on how to exchange an emitter, or it can be done at a Gavita service center. We are currently setting up world-wide service centers.

I'm not sure about the current price of an exchange but I believe it is around 195. I expect that to go down in the future.

Hi I am going to be doing a SOG grow soon. I will have 4x4' trays with 1000 Gavita lamps. My question is how high should I keep the lamp above the canopy for maximum efficiency? The ceiling is 8 or 9'. Also would a 4x4' canopy be big enough for my ceiling heights or should I use bigger trays?

Thanks for all the help throughout the thread :)

4x4 is too smal of 1 1000W lamp, how high is your crop and how big is your room, are you really going to use 1000 lamps? :D

I need room size and crop height to give you a good suggestion.

in a 4x4 is it better to have one 1000 watt dialed down to 600? or a 600 at 600?

in a 4x8 -
plasma 41.01 + two 1K at 600? or two 600s at 600?

Hi whazzup thanks for the reply, I want to use 1kw lamps. The canopy will be 3ft off the ground at the very max after flower stretch with ceilings at 9ft. The room will be 12x12. What do you think I should do?

Thanks,

Just thought that I would chime in and say that sunlight supply is carrying these. I just pick whatever grow store is a distributor. I have 8 remote pro hoods on a flipper with 4 remote pro ballasts. The room flips every other hood every 2 hours. The ceiling height is 6'4" and I have 32 plants in their scrogged in individual plants on blumat drippers. I for added blues introduced 6 Blue Leds at 135w inbetween each light for increased trichrome production. I use a 24000 btu minisplit to cool the room. Look early in the thread I have some pictures posted. I can assure you that it works very well.

Though I would not recommend a flipper at all (it can seriously damage a ballast!), it's all about surface and the amount of light you can have on your plants. You are simulating a lamp error every 2 hours! This will also wear out the lamps much earlier as you are switching them on and off at least 6 times per day in bloom cycle instead of one. Switching on and off produces the most wear on a lamp.

I probably explained it a few times before, as a basic rule to estimate the number of fixtures is: ppfd= ((total ppf of the fixtures)/(area in square meters))-10% wall losses. That doesn't mean that there is an optimal arrangement for which you can actually get this ppfd: 2x4m is something completely different than 1x8m for example.

The more fixtures you need and the higher wattage you choose, the bigger the distance from the crop as you want to overlap to create uniformity and deep penetration at the same time without light levels rising too high. Also you need to consider the spread pattern: LEP us square, HPS is rectangular. So there is no golden rule for placing your fixtures.

Examples:

Pro 1000 ~2000 umol from the reflector
Pro 600 ~ 1100 umol from the reflector

4x4=1.44 m2
1 Pro 1000: (2000/1.44)-10%= 1250 umol, BUT that is if you are able to spread this light over the complete surface at enough distance. If you come to close to the lamp you will locally have very high light levels. Now when you have a scrog in a 4x4 tent and the lamp at the ceiling, at 1000W you should not go higher with your crop than about 4 ft (1.2m) or light levels will be above 1500 umol s-1 m-2 in the center.

So for a low scrog this is feasible for an experienced grower, I would not recommend this to a beginner. To illustrate: this is 600W on 1mx1m, which is more than enough for a gram per watt yield, even in a single plant grow as in this case:

attachment.php

for a 12x12 (3.6x3.6m): To light the complete area (which you need to do with overlapping lights) the calculation is:

3.6x3.6~13 m2. So you need about 14.000 umol in total to get to 1000 umol average. That would be 7x1000W. Now as you can understand it is really hard to position 7 fixtures in a square area, so I have to calculate the optimal positioning, probably 6x1000W on boost. BUT if you only have like 4 tables in these you will only be lighting a 8x8 area. So you have to be a bit more efficient in the use of your space for the light to be optimally used for crop.

There is not an optimal solution for every size room with any lighting solution. As a matter of fact more than 95% of all grow rooms have sub-optimal spread and uniformity. That this is not a real problem is proven by the good results growers get with these solution. Can it be optimized though? Yes!

@jajafrank: Actually for 4x4 a 825 would be more efficient use to get to 1000 umol. Do run your 1000W lamps at 100% for at least 100 hours though to stabilize them first! At 825 the lamp is still very efficient. At 600W you would be much better of with a Pro 600 at 100% than a 1000W at 60%. Again: I need rooom size (including height!!) and crop height to giivve you any advice. 2 x 600W instead of 1 x 1000W will always give you a better spread and uniformity.

Hi,
Pro 1000 ~2000 umol from the reflector
Pro 600 ~ 1100 umol from the reflector
Now when you have a scrog in a 4x4 tent and the lamp at the ceiling, at 1000W you should not go higher with your crop than about 4 ft (1.2m) or light levels will be above 1500 umol s-1 m-2 in the center.
Yes, about 120/130cm (in fact the limit is really 60cm under the bulb, some strains 70, other 50 (a few). I delimit a security zone of 60cm by a 60cm long pendulum string hanged under the fixture, when i make it turn, it should not hit any weed.I try shorter distance at my first Gavita session, i should have not - too strong:p
You can manage taller pla,nts by placing them at the edges and corner, so i was able to grow some 6feet tall plant. But never in the middle, should be a "bowl".
Do run your 1000W lamps at 100% for at least 100 hours though to stabilize them first!
Huuummmm ... I think i did not, i'm sure i did not cause i've made some test with my might meters the few first days i get my toy, is it serious for the health of the bulb, Doc ? ;)

To testify about my own hobbyist use, i'm in my third session in a 4x4 with the Pro 1000DE 400V, and like many, at my first use i had to discover by myself how powerful the light is. And you need to tune you're usual set up (i had before 1kw - 600HPS + 400 HPI-T -AAW XL where i can have only a foot between. I finished my first session at 825w. around 0,75/0,8 gr per watt.
gallery_992_2898_1931954.jpg

Second session, i managed differently, and ended with a kilo. with more than 10 different strains, mostly seed. This time my 1000DE (Remote one) was as high at the ceiling as possible, put my 11 liters pot (27cm high) on the floor, and 1150W during the 2/3 first weeks of stretch until they reach 1meter high, and next 1kw.
gallery_992_3382_1359610.jpg

My actual third session should be even better.

Brut numbers doesn't mean a lot, let say i improve my yield of 30 % with the Gavita.

But, it is not for beginner and bad climate grower, and so don't recommand it to newb' (Ho-yeah, i buy a 1000DE, a little tent, drop an handful of seeds and "hop", a kilo two months later. It doesn't work like that :p )

I'm the kind of guy who like to push the red button when forbidden, just to see, i pushed it the first time, i saw ... So you have to listen to "The Dude" advices above :p

Peace !

looks great :) yes, red buttons eh... :D

The best way to learn is to make mistakes, but I try to prevent people from making mistakes of course. But yes, it is something you need to look at with different eyes.

As for the lamp: not stabilizing it for the first 100 hour could lead to ignition problems or the lamp not reaching its full potential. Actually you should do it with every HPS lamp.

Hi whazzup, I'm a proud owner of 1x1000W DE fixture and i'm thinking to buy a light rail sistem to cover efficently my new grow room (2*1.5*3h). I'd like to put 1m rail in the centre of the ceiling and let the fixture go left/right.... will you give me some advice, please?

thanks

@whazzup ..if u were building 2 rooms ..tents bc of ease and quick dismantle if need be and just overall the beat solution for me ..I don't have a certain # of lights I wanna use but 6 would be max ...4 optimum minimum ..

I was thinking 3 600s in each tent better coverage ..less heat ..less power usage ..do u have a better idea / setup for a space like that ..I can't give u exact floor demesions but its decent size ..and it's gonna be ac cooled in the warmer months ..

Is there a benefit of getting the remote ballast compared to the all in one ..I kno the reflectors have adjustable light spread and it seems like a better idea for a tent but u kno more than me ..

Good looks I'm tryna step my game up lol

Hi !

In practice, around 15 cm, who can make all the difference in a 4x4 tent. That's my case, remote one :p
.I kno the reflectors have adjustable light spread and it seems like a better idea for a tent but u kno more than me ..
No he doesn't have adjustzable matter.
Looks so tiny at first, but the spread is really good. No more shadow spots like my old AAW for example
