I quit trying to clone in coco... lol

I clone in 16oz cups of 100% perlite. Perlite is inorganic, so it's a sterile medium. This prevents damping off, a problem I couldn't seem to beat in coco.

The size of the container doesn't really matter... but a 16oz cup of perlite holds enough moisture to keep my clones alive for at least 1 week without any attention. No additional irrigation.

I cut entire branches off my plants and clone them... chopping up the laterals and suckers with scissors... All the stuff that would grow into larf anyway. Then I'll chop off all the leaves except the top 2, nipping off all the new shoots at the internode. I use razor for the final cut, but sharp scissors work fine too... I don't sterilize anything. After making a clean cut, I stick the cut in Home Depot rooting powder before inserting the cut into a preformed hole in the cup of perlite. I like to bury 2-3 internodes at least... More if I can. It's best to hydrate the perlite before sticking the cuts when you're taking several hundred... and I take 3-400 with the hard to root plants... 200 with the easier to root sativas. If you're only taking 30 cuts it really doesn't matter if you hydrate the perlite before or after... No fertilizer necessary. Carbohydrates are stored in the plants stem... so the cut needs to use up those nutes, and what's in the remaining leaves and then it'll be encouraged to seek out nutrients and grow roots. Oh yeah, and the cuts don't wilt if they hardly have any leaves on them.... how are they going to transpire? lol

umm... flourescents hang a few feet above my cuts... Indirect side light from my reflectors was sufficient for rooting. I added overhead flouros to induce new growth so it's easier to tell when the clones are rooted.

oh, and the temps have to be at least 70F... any lower and you can have the cuts sitting there for a month and they won't root. lol... Personally I think 80F is too high, the cups dry out a lot faster and I'll have to have automated watering setup for the summer. Right around 75-8F is where everything ticks just right for me.

Anyway... That's my set it and forget it method. Stick the cuts, and water 1x a week till they root.

Thanks Bro......80 degrees might be too high where yas grow , but with high humidity always inherent where I lived it was necessary to make sure transpiration was actually occurring , and .....

Thanks for showin folks how less is more........Red Solo Cup......I fill you up.....Let`s root and party......

Peace.....Freds.....:ying:.....

God I hate having to put together PVC systems indoors. Next time I have to I'll try this brand called 'Gorilla' that supposedly is far less hazardous to work with. Good luck on your quest, looks like something special.

Have you been able to test which sprayers you will be using? Are you going to be feeding them from the top or do you plan on drilling holes on the backs of the Y's?

this is how far ive got this one was two big...to much force for the root i would think i put glass on top and the front to watch the spr ay pattern and set the y on top of a bucket with a 3"hole so it could drain ive got 3 of the smaller ones to try i will have to drill and tap a small pice of pipe and run it down from the top
