Sam_Skunkman's dry sift method

supposedly .. i got it rong.. he doesnt blow it at all. supposedly.. u use a very very very small screen that allows the stalks and plant matter to fall threw but keeps most of the heads .. and u use the vacuum to suck at the bottom of the screen to get it out. ?

i wana know if i shouold buy.. 200 Mesh. 100 Mesh.. 70 Mesh Silk Screens? and they have a speedball one thats 124LPI

what shouold i be lookin at for screen sizes in Mesh or LPI.? these are from the art store.. im about to say fuck it an order some bubble bags and use the bags for dry sift.

I use a 280 and 210 US Mesh silkscreen screen. I am going to try a 325-350. I like a stretched frame (~18" x 20"). I run the vac w/one hand & card the material over the vac w/the other. Anything over ~200 to 210 US Mesh, you will be losing too many trichomes. Use a handheld scope to check out you work. Start with a small pile at first, and your finest screen. You can always move up.

Was asking about screen tension for this method, tight as
a drum, like 20+ newton meters?

the trichomes must be cold, so that the resin is in a glass state and can be broken.

you must have enough trichomes all over each other, so that when vibrating, the heads flow over the stalks, while the stalks remain for the most part in their spots due to interaction with each other with the vibration while the bulbs jitter over because the stalks are for the most part occupying the screen and breaking off.

The point on the vaccum is to suck capitate stalks and cystolith hairs thru while leaving the larger trichome heads sitting on top of the screen. this generally happens on a 50u or a 70u screen, depending on what size glands you are going for... i have gotten my sift to a 98% pure glands with this method..

Peace

70u (micron)~220 US Mesh (this is usually how silkscreens are sold)
50u ~ 300 US Mesh

1 micron = .001 millimeter

A 124LPI would be a 70 US Mesh or a 210u. Not suitable for the vacuum.

I think there is a chart somewhere on this site.

That's incorrect, 124 lines per inch (LPI) = 124 Mesh, 100 Mesh = 100 lines per inch mesh. US Mesh are based on how many lines per inch.

70 mesh has 70 LPI

Some USA "100 Mesh" (or 100 lines or threads per linear inch mesh) screens are similar to 160 micron (microns measure the distance between the mesh openings and so are more accurate for our application), some have 150 microns openings....and it also depends on how thick the threads are when basing comparisons by using US Mesh sizing.

Check out the mesh comparison chart that is "sticky-ed" on the top of this "Hashish" forum...but that's just one chart, other charts that you will notice online will and can be slightly different (as they are based on meshes with different thread thicknesses,...a mesh with really thick threads will have smaller openings than a mesh of the same lines per inch count that has thin threads, so one 100 Mesh might have openings of 160 microns and another will have openings that are 140 microns)...but since almost all meshes commonly available today are synthetic (mostly Nylon) and are mono-filament threads (not silk, which is like rope and each thread is a combination of many finer threads twirled together to form one thread), and the threads are not that different, so you can use the attached chart to get a fairly accurate comparison

another way to check out the Mesh size (or how many lines per inch the screen is) is to get yourself a thread counter, which is a magnifying glass that is mounted on a fold out metal frame, there are 3 sides which are hinged together, these are about 2 inches x 2 inches and have fractional inch and also often metric markings on them. Fold out the device so it locks in place to form a cube, hold the glass section close to your eye and press the opposite side hard against the mesh as you hold it up to light (a window or low watt lamp) and count how threads there are in a quarter inch section, then multiply that number x 4 to get the lines per inch count. It's easy to count 80, 100 and even 125 Mesh screens with this, but finer meshes, eg 200 Mesh, are difficult to count with a thread counter, so it's easier to count a smaller section then multiply (that's if you have really good eye sight)...for fine meshes, use a microscope (USB if you have it) with a ruler on the mesh.

the problem with oil extraction is it only breaks down the basic petro-chemical disolvable compenents of the plant....the ice hash process leaches or rinses away some of the flavor compenents that add to the taste and and in a small way to the high...while dry sift doesn't have the outright potency of the latter two methods, when kif (produced correctly & gently), it is a true, complete and natural concentrate of the original plant...hash made via the dry sift method gives you the total and complete unadultered herbal THC active essences (not altered, added to, polluted, disolved, leached or rinsed) so the high is more complex, tastes better and is in a more natural form..that's why it tastes better and the high is fuller and more "complete" ........ and it's faster and safer!

Happy kiffing!

Well said! Cant beat old skool methods, I take clean piney Moroccan over modern extractions anyday.

Yeah, you are right!! I see my mistake.

When did we get the Hashish sub forum? I must have been here before, there is the chart I was talking about.

Chamba is right about the diameter of the threads varying. I just got a handheld microscope with a reticle for measuring distance. I am going to look at all of my screens & bags with it (I have at least 42).

BasementGrower, just get a good selection of screens. With all the variables, you will need them. Get a good handheld microscope too.

Skip made us the new hash sub. i guess it's a place where we hash heads can start showing our stuff without getting the threads pushed down by all the oil threads :)

This is great, isn't it, but why is the "Hashish" forum set up as a sub-forum to the Cannabis Concentrates (aka the petro-chemical dissolving, pipe bomb manufacturing and let's make stuff that sticks like shit to a blanket forum)? Shouldn't it be the other way round?

Lawrd knows, but maybe because all the other ways to extract is a more volumous subject than dry sieving or extracting with water?

I like them both, but can deal with one more step checking the days traffic.

I actually initially extracted bubble and dry sieve to make oil concentrates, before moving to oil using non polar solvents, but rarely add anything to those threads, because it is clear that there are a number of folks more expert than I, who have things covered.

I will be on both forums, as I do continue to learn from those experts and do have our own accoustical dry sieve projects to complete this fiscal year.

Gray Wolf, am new to the subject, can you elaborate
on the accoustical dry sieve projects you mentioned?

Maybe am too high to have missed something posted
earlier about the subject.

Thanks.
