What pH buffer do you use?

I think I might be having a phosphorus issue because of the abundance of GH down I have to use?

...and what meters do you like?

My PH down is phosphoric acid,as for meters the only one I have ever used is a Hanna for PH.Works ok.I always check it against drops.

If i need to trop pH i use GHE phosphous acid and when i want raise pH i use Growth Technology potasium SILICATE its so good shit.
I use hanna combo hand meter and contiosly pH meter allso in mainreso.

AN ph down concentrate is the bomb!!!!!
i went from using almost 100ml per 40g rez of the GH/Mad Farmer ph down to only 15ml of AN ph down per 40g..

super concentrated you barely use any... higly recommended

i prefer hanna meters btu i also double check my hanna with litmus strips to verify. ph is very important.

good luck

Ill second AN ph up and down. Amazing stuff.

i think what the op was after was info on ph buffers? if not i am =) ... isn't there certain additives (not ph up/down) that buffer? from my understanding "buffer" brings it to the ideal level without needing to test the levels?

I read it like that too. I know manufacturers use buffers to stabilise the PH in their products but I don't know if it's sold as an additive.

AN Up and Down are awesome. I heard they were going to dilute it, though.

i use the AN down and love it as well, very strong stuff. the quart lasts me through a couple 4kw runs i think.. would be unfortunate if they diluted it.

I'm using GH for my pH Up/Down as well, but my water requirements are really low right now since I only have one plant. Still, I feel like I've used more than should be necessary for the couple gallons of water I've already used.

As for a meter, I use a Milwaukee pH600 that I got from Amazon. Although, I think it may be a knockoff...as I find I have to recalibrate it for every use basically. It always seems to be .2-.4 off of the calibration solution. Will probably spring for a better one in the future.

I am looking for pH buffering options as well. I see nobody answered the OP question over the years, almost everyone seemed to confuse pH buffering with pH up and down adjustment products.

pH buffering is where you add something that is already pH 5.8 to your nute solution to lock it at pH 5.8 as the nutes are consumed, so you don't have to stuff around adding pH up or down throughout the grow.

The only formula I have found so far is add 1g of citric acid for 100 liters of solution, which will lower the pH of your solution a lot. Then, raise the pH to the desired 5.8 pH value you want by adding potassium carbonate. However I also read that citric acid is not all that stable, so I am looking for other buffer formulas people have tried.

True or False? Cuttings won't uptake nutes.

If you meant pH adjusters...

May I suggest switching to reverse osmosis water, or other water at 15ppm or less? You'll find the need for pH up instead, at that point. There are several nice offerings on the market that use potassium. Stay away from anything with chlorides in it.

Cannabis likes potassium, doesn't seem to hurt quality at all either. The other benefit from using r/o water is how much softer and cooler the end smoke is. Anyone who hasn't tried a plant with r/o, next to others with tap water, should give it a shot.

Hope that helps

I use pH down (phosphoric acid), pH up (potassium hydroxide) and dolomitic limestone (calcium and magnesium carbonate) for my pH manipulations.

I have used hydrated lime (calcium hydroxide) in the past as well.

No I DON'T mean pH adjusters, I mean pH buffer as per what the OP is talking about.

Ahh, ok. I saw the question, missed the answer if it was answered in the thread already.

My research points to a full and cyclic pH swing as one of the best possible ways to grow cannabis. Not interested in steady pH growing environments. Not for cannabis anyway.

Hope you find what you're looking for,

Douglas
