Done truckin. Time to relax

Hello every one. Great to be here. :gday:
As the flag suggests, i'm another Aussie hoping to learn, share and hopefully make a few friends along the way..

A little bit about me. I'm a 50's something retired interstate truck driver. Travelled over this great land of ours for near on 25 yrs. Had my own rig there for a few years until and unexpected divorce. I really miss that truck!! The last 5 or so years i just drove for others but these days i only do the occassional run when the cupboard is starting to get bare.

I'm onto my 2nd grow ever and with your help i can improve this time round. First attempt was a bit of a failure, only harvesting about 5 ounces from 6 plants under a 600 watt HPS. These were just some bagseed from some good smoke that i'd been holding onto for a few years. Since then i was able to aquire some clones from a friend of a friend. He has apparently been buying seeds from the internet for a few years and these seeds are supposed to be 'dank as hell' haha. I hope so. From the reviews ive been reading they do sound nice.
I have 3 diffrent types they are blue cheese, white widow and big bud( he told me this was one to keep hold of out of the 3 because it's not around any more?) They are currently growing under a bank of 4 x 2foot fluros and are approximately 6 inches tall. The soil i'm using is coco and perlite in 8 litre pots. My friend reckons to grow them another few weeks and then put them in the budding room. So that will be the plan.

Well, i've probably rambled on enough for now. Hope to meet you all in due time and share some stories.

Thanks for taking the time out of your day to read my introduction.

Quick question. My post count doesn't appear to be goin past 1. Is that because it's my first day of posting? Probably a silly question already. My appologies. I just don't seem to be able to find out through searching. I'm sure i'll figure things out before too long.

Hi Kenny, new member here myself, long time viewing. All your growing answers are here and I have always been amazed at the patience shown from veteran growers here, large grow or small.

I asked the same question about posts not advancing yesterday. Post do not count on the 'Introduce Yourself' forum but will immediately credit when posting in other forums.

Hello there Keif Stoned. Pleasure mate and thanks very much. The wealth of imformation here is incredible! The trickiest part seems to be figuring out where to start.
Yes i just replied in another topic and post tally went to 2 haha. I'm not a super chatty person really so i don't expect that to increase very quickly :)

Yeah, I'm kinda the same way, but it may get to be addictive, I know just lurking can be.

 I haven't left this chair since signing up.
Until today i'd been trying to find information via google which would send me here to icmag most times anyway, so thought it sensible to sign up. I'm already happy that i did

Welcome to the forum mate.
Best place to learn and meet like-minded people imho.
Enjoy your stay and don't let the occasional troll/hater ruin it for you !

Some coco advice if you'd have it:
Coco is great to grow in, I'd use canna or bcuzz coco a+b on it, both relatively cheap (bcuzz cheaper and more concentrated) and can grow great bud with them with no need for additive bottles except perhaps flowering hormones/boosters if you want, but nothing else needed imho. Some other brands split essentials into other bottles to sell you even more water.

Also, get a GOOD ph & ec meter. If you do that and stick to correct ph/ec you will almost NEVER have any problems in coco, considering you keep ur medium watered frequently and thoroughly enough to not get any salt buildup or ph swing issues. Don't buy cheap meters, you will end up with grow problems, and then end up buying the better versions later, paying more than you would have if you went for quality ones first. Blue lab is the way to go when it comes to meters. I'd avoid Hanna's non-professional line, they are cheaply constructed and not worth the money they charge for them.

Been there done that, I'll never buy cheap meters again. Oh, and calibrate every 2 weeks atleast no matter how good ur meters are. You're on the right track with 6 females per 600w. Try LST when they are in their 2nd week of veg and you will get much bushier plants. If the strain(s) is atleast decent yielding you should have no problem pulling 3-4 oz per plant in that config. The more colas the better.

Happy growing !

Hi there cyber echo, thanks for the welcome and sound advice.

Yes i thankfully chose the Canna coco and bought their flower a/b along with their a/b veg. I've been reading that coco kind of sucks the magnesium out. Would epsom salts be beneficial or might i be better to try and purchase Calmag do you think? I did my first ever supercrop the other day and am already quite surprised how the lower branches are catching up to the main stem. What a wonderful idea! No doubt the Coco Forum will be my bible for a while :)
My friend gave me a Truncheon. Is that the kind of metre you're talking about? It says that it's factory calibrated? It's a few years old so i'm not too worried if i have to replace it. For the ph testing i'm just using one of those little kits where you add the blue dye and adjust as necessary. Do you think they work ok. The hydro shop salesman recomended it and it was cheap so i though what the heck.

Thanks mate

Truncheon is great yes, from blue lab. Will last you a few years and be reliable.
Imho keep it simple and just use canna coco a+b, its both for veg and flower. You are probably using their soil or hydro nutes ?
You might get issues with cal/mag indeed, which is why their coco a+b bottles have more mg and calcium than their hydro bottles (havnt looked at soil myself).

It'd be a waste to throw ur current bottles way though, so get a little bit of cal/mag and keep it handy if u spot any deficiences in flower, add them as soon as you see the minor symptons (if at all) and you won't have any problems, shouldnt need to add much too, prolly 1/4 to-1/2 of what they'd advice u on the calmag bottle u buy. Epsoms salts are good too incase you only have mg defs and dont wanna add calcium.

As for the ph drops, I don't like them much, but others do. Myself I stick with a digital ph meter with calibration fluids on hand at all times.

Cheers

ps: Stick to coco. Me and others went hydro/soil and came back ;)
