Weyenot- I just looked at the Majestic Earth peat moss at my local Lowes the other night.Didn't buy it.It was very dark (I opened several bales to be sure). All the peat I've used has been light redish brown and fluffy.I think the M.E. is second rate shit.

Hey there Lithos, welcome an awesome thread!

It seems from what you said that you think the peat is low quality if it is dark, is that correct? It probably was just wet; the first bale I bought was light brown and fluffy but once wet got dark, I really think thats what happens to all peat when you wet it. So why would the ME be low quality?

TO x BMR Bx1...typical female, they all have this frost level despite flower size from various phenotypes. Again,no-till ROLS,no ph'ing,no flushing,no blood,no mammalian bone,no hydro store bottled anything except a bit of Pro-tekt before the Agsil-16 bulk potassium silicate order, one 2 inch layer of a hot unfinished compost(ooops..a bit of tip burn for a second),no 'veganics',water only except for Coots seed juice teas and a fish/kelp combo in mid-flower. Done enough for me @ 55 days~

Hey there Gas, thank you for another inspirational pic!! Shes a beauty:) All the pictures and info Ive looked at have got me pretty interested in BMR, they seem like some hardy ones for sure!

Im curious, did you order your Agsil recently? I have been having trouble locating any; both customhydro and mbferts are out of stock so I am on the waiting list to hear about a restock. Where did you order yours?

Hank Stamper was my model when I was foreman/cook for a little logging operation. Morning call 'Wag it an' shag it boys' We've got contracts to fill, eggs to hatch and cats to kill.'

There was a great line in the movie where Hank declared "We work, sleep, eat, screw, drink and keep on going, and that's all there is."

That's how I've lived my life.

I must apologize for the highlighted statement; it didnt sit right with me after I made it and after some retrospect things became a bit clearer. Even though I was trying to be funny while making a statement I realize that I was subconsciously venting and the energy isnt what I want to be putting out there. I had just come from reading some of a thread about the hyped "GSC" where I encountered some mindsets that touched a nerve so to say -why?- because on some level I am dealing with the fact that even though my mindset and goals are changing I still have the capability to think and act like the a mindless fool. Its a work in progress and I can do better. I want to encourage not discourage; everyone should be able to grow whatever kind of plant they want, chems and kushes all the way to landraces. I must be respectful of others and there are other ways for me to share my opinion without making jabs.

LOL....Don't worry. I'm sure no one took offense... I gotta say though I got some GSC (2 pheno's), Plat cherry pie, etc, etc (all the hyped goodies cause thats whats around me unfortunately. ) but they are still getting get that loving living soil treatment know what I mean?

GCS Praying hard even in the dark....LOL

Platnium Cherry pie....

And the finale is a pic of the best use of a general hyrdo product eva!!!!!

Weyenot,

Your integrity is admirable. I on the other hand learned rather quickly that hydro-hate'n is high culture 'roun hea'.

Bring out the pitch forks and light up a possum we eat'n good tonight!

Consider this a friendly public service reminder :tiphat:

At times I would be right there up front and center swinging that noose over the tree limb but if I can find a way to inspire someone to make a positive change Id rather do that, helping others does my soul good:) Who knows though? Im just a young'un after all

N1's Neo!

Finally someone showin us some perky evidence other than our resident street sweeper Gascan cleaning up the mess that saggy Hydro Hooters left behind.

Now we wanna see those jaw droppers when they're ready to be plucked!

Hey there N420; I feel responsible for what comes out of me, so because what I said didnt "ring true" with my spirit I felt compelled to correct it the best I could. In the past I have been more likely to ignore the whispers but Im making it a practice to listen now;)

Variety interests me and was the main motivation for being on the GSC thread, in order to find out some info about origin and not simply people ooooh and gooooing over the resin and smell/taste, but all I found was the latter. Since I know that if the plants are happy they will produce all the smells/colors/resin they possibly can Im not really interested in reading about it; id rather hear about genetics, country of origin, landraces etc. Are you aware of any good info on GSC?

Weyenot-The samples of M.E. I looked at were dry .That's why I tore open a couple that had good intact wrappers.I'm basing my opinions from a somewhat hazy memory of reading discussions of peat moss quality on a Nepenthes forum I used to read (Nepenthes hobbyists are fanatic indoor gardeners of a different stripe.A lot of orchid people get involved in Nepenthes never to return).Anyway they're real particular about potting mixes.I think the general idea was that darker peat is further along in decomposition and will not retain it's qualities as long in a potting mix.I'm also a little suspicious of it's somewhat cheaper price.I'll go back to Lowes tomorrow and pocket a sample and give it a look under my fairly low quality usb scope. If I can find what I'd call a higher quality peat somewhere ,I'll buy a bale and compare them.If I can get good enough pictures I'll post em and share what I learn.I'm also going to check out the label and do some Google work on peat in general.Right now I think I hear my bong calling.

It's a shame that the Oregon clinics didn't think much of either the TO or the BO - I pretty much got the bum's rush when I was donating rooted cuts for their patients.

"Our patients are pretty particular about what they grow"

Really - got a link?

BTW - both of the girls turned 29 years of age this month. Still waiting for that ol' genetic drift thing to kick-in - soon maybe?

I know what you mean CC. Every disp around me only carries "the in crowd" stuff. I'll chat with the plant tenders and they agree about lack of diversity but they gotta keep what moves. I stopped going to them all together because of that and the bunk cuts they be spreading... I'm changing route as soon as I get my no till going for a cycle or two. ....
I'll be calling then.........

Thank you for sharing Lithos; it does make sense that a darker color would indicate a more decomposed product, since humus has that dark rich color. Having said that, wouldnt it be safe to say that a darker peat wouldnt harm a soil mix and could even help it by adding more humus - since this is a major goal in soil building. The aeration is already covered by perlite/pumice/lava rock etc so there so I dont think there would be a risk of a lack of oxygen.
Your observations definitely have me interested though, I think I will do some research as well. When I need more peat I will get some of the Premier brand and see what its like. I will be curious to see what you find out with the microscope; I dont have one yet but its on the list!
One more thing, what are the "properties" you speak of?
