Well...
I was growing with hemp buckets for a while, changed over to Bottom Feeding...(with SUPERB results i might add...)
Now due to changes in the family dynamics, i am going BACK to the hempy bucket.
I ran STRAIGHT perilite for ever, but now i am going to do a Hempy- COCO style.
Hopefully this will give me the happy medium between hydro and soil i have been searching for.
Will keep it update...

You will get hydro roots/growth if you water/feed daily to runoff. More work than watering every three days, but tremendous growth.

Question regarding clones in mini hempy buckets: Im using Bcuzz coco and a perlite res and I recently rooted 4 clones and placed them into beer cup hempy buckets. I want to veg them for just a few weeks to strengthen roots then flip em. I fed with 1/4 strength nutes PHd down to 5.8 until a little came of the res hole. Its been 2 days now since i put the clones in the beer hempy buckets and the coco still seems awfully moist (to the point where i havent watered it because its still wet on the top)....i tilt the beercup a little and water comes out the res hole (which i expect because the roots cant nearly be to the res hole yet) I am curious if im doing something incorrectly, or will the coco stay that moist initially? As soon as the roots are stronger im going to be potting up to a 2.5 gal bucket.

thanks in advance

You dont wanna water til run off until the roots are in the res. Allow the roots to grow in the medium. Don't water them again until the coco is dry and you notice new growth.

What lights you using and what's your day temps? A cold low lit room will slow things down.

When you say coco is dry....dry like soil on the top layer? first time running coco so im still trying to get everything fine tuned. I am going to grab a cup full of coco straight from the bag and compare color....at least thatll give me an idea of how wet it is still.

Currently the transplanted clones are in a smaller cabinet with (6) 23w CFLs until they get stronger roots, then off to the 250hps. temps are hovering in the 76-80 range

You'll know the difference between wet coco and dry coco by both sight and touch.
Can you use the 250w now? The plants would like it more. If not then keep them cfl's as close to the plant tops as possible (in the range of 1 - 2 inches) and adjust the height as necessary. Do you have a reflector with the cfl's and are the lights on chains so that you can adjust the height?

Your temps are fine. I'd also recommend 18/6 if you're not already doing so. I find that roots develop most during the dark periods of the veg cycle. Good luck.

PS. In future I'd start off the plants in just a small cup of medium (we use coco/perlite mix) with the holes at the bottom, like a regular plant pot. Hempy buckets work best when they're in 1 - 5 gallon buckets.

thanks grassotts's dad! Definitely been paying a little more attention and think im starting to get a good gauge of moist/damp/dry. I cant throw them under the HPS, as i already have one thats about 6 weeks into flower (in soil). hoping for 2-3oz from that one.

With these new ones, im going to give a scrog a whirl beings i only have a 250. the one thats currently in there was FIM'd then LST'd and im rather impressed with how uniform the canopy is.

Next go around, im going to throw the clones into some coco/perlite cups like you said then pot up to the 2 gal hempys i have.

I'm considering going with coco hempy buckets for my 2nd grow. Do most people just transplant rooted clones into the final bucket or do they transplant up to larger containers like with soil? What about germinating from seed?

I don't see much discussioun about LST... Are there any special considerations with hempy buckets and LST?

Let me put up a pic that Dialahempy himself put up awhile ago .... might even be in the beginning of this thread ....i don't remember . but it will answer 2 of your questions for you :)

& heres a shot of the size of the clones i put into my pots .

how & when you LST a plant is up to you & the plant ... not the pot or medium .

Oh funk yea, I have come across the ultimate thread! Well I am new to the whole growing world. Been doing it just at about a year now. I have only used hempy buckets, and only with perlite/vermiculite. I have had some pretty damn good progress in my growing career. Started out with some hermies the first go a little better the second and so on til now i've got some pretty dank stuff just not much size. I have experimented just a smidgen with true hydroponics, I made a DIY aerocloner and Bubbler. But now I have reached my point I am ready to do coco.
I bought some knock off rocks from the hydro shop because they no longer sell hydroton and the only bag he had was $38.95. I only need it to line the reservoir so i went with the cheapies.

I used 1 gal black containers , same ones i've been using in my grow thread. Lined the bottom 3 in with rock, up to the hole.

I'm using Botanicare coco bricks. They were $3.95, and i only wanted enough for a few buckets, because i need to see what I'm really getting myself into and if I really want to do them. I flushed very thoroughly like suggested. I flushed with a weak solution of Technaflora's B-1 Red. It is used to flush rockwool and such . Filled the pots up and inserted the bubbler clones. I also added some MYKOS to the coco. It will innoculate in the next week and hopefully prove to be beneficial.

How much are these gonna differ in watering and nutrients as to the original hempy recipe (perlite:vermiculite) that I have been using for the last year? I realize there is less of a buffer and mistakes will be more costly but if I'm running KISS with MaxiBloom , a silica product, and sometimes a bloom booster will I want to shoot for a different Ph or keep things the same. Im gonna be dissecting this thread because I want to switch to all coco. hope everyone is well, happy growing :rasta:

Re: Coco Hempy style.

PH the nutes to 5.8 and run it like the old style hempy...it works fine...

Don't use coco in the bottom 2"...I used perlite but I've seen others use hydroton or lava rock..

:rasta:yea man i used those cheap rocks to line the bottom rez. I am going to water like the normal ones. All water always gets ph'd to 5.8-6. We use Maxibloom, pro silica and thats it. Heres a couple more "garbage bin" style cocos i made today. Ive seen bozo use these and have great success. These are only aboug a 1 gal container. just shaped beautiful for hempys! :smokeit:

Yeah man, you've got it...you'll be fine, I didn't have much luck with maxi bloom but I never tried it in a hempy...

Those plants look fried. You are doing something wrong. Calibrate your PH meter...

Re: Coco Hempy style.

No ph meter bro. Honestly have not had a hundred bucks laying around and I Just don't see that I would use it very often. The more I develop into hydro the more I will consider one. I flush the Coco out thoroughly but from what I've seen doesn't look like it was enough. But I often have this yellowing at transplant stage and things take off in about a week when roots hit the rez. No signs of burn on any leafs. Any other recommendation if I don't have a PH meter?
