People that say that "never that desperate" shit really don't have a clue and are really missing out. But to each there own, more power to 'em, but they really don't know what they're talking about. Desperation has nothing to do with it. Quality and effects DO. :comfort:

All i know is that im absolutely painless from fan/sugar leaf and can grab a few hours of sleep. If the bud around here were only so good :(
I dont want to run this old boy in the ground for selling me shitty bud at primo rate, but something is bad wrong with the state of things when the fan leaf has more medicating properties than the commercial bud he is floating around.

Then the scary side of things is SOMEONE is going to be germing the seed from that crap, and me being an outside grower, i run the risk of getting pollinated with elcrapo.

I mean.. i dont want to grow all summer, turn out some good smoke, but its offspring end up just giving me a little tingle between the eyes with NO medicinal effects.

I smoke the new growth on my vegging plants. Fan leaves can be smoked but it isn't recommended. Better to consume (eat, juice, cook with) them than to smoke them. New growth (top 2 inches of the growing shoot) will have a serious effect depending on your tolerance level. If you have no THC in your system you will know what I'm talking about. If you are accustomed to smoking lots of bud then you will not notice any effect.

In some Asian cultures, the new growth produce the best teas, and go to a separate batch than the bulk regular tea. I guess this is the weed leaf analogy.

Saw this interesting video as well:

It's all good. If you don't have any buds cured the dried leaves will get you though the night.

Then again so many people who dose their plants with expensive chemicals all day long in hopes of growing Jah's plant faster............ Next time your sitting on a beach in Mexico or Jamaica tell your herbsman that his weed did'nt get you high. Too many growers only interest is selling the crop and buying some more chemicals. They don't even smoke buds much less the leaves.

1974 me and a old freind planted some bag seeds out side and they got like 10 ft and never showed sex plus i didn't realy know any thing about growing weed but we would sell it for 40 bucks for a bead bag full and we sold alot for 14 year olds we had so much home grown that year . Now i set here and smoke sour bubble/ white widow/ and many other top strains . Hell i never have to buy seeds ever again and i have so many great crosses so many things have changed over the last 30 years .

I don't think they've ever got me stoned like any kind of buds - high, sure.

I smoke the leaves at least once of every plant from seed I grow, and this has been going on since the 80's. 39 seeds on this grow so I've been doing a lot of this lately. This happens at topping and when deleting lower branches. There's a very good reason for smoking these leaves, but it's also a science as Morphote indicated. The tip and next set of leaves are a good indicator of the strength of the buds, but the pinching has to be at a certain time, before the leaves reach nearly full size. The highest concentration seems to be when the tip of the plant is an inch from the next set of leaves. It seems there's just a certain amount of THC per leaf and it's produced only at an early growth stage, and when the leaves are small, you have more concentration, and when the leaves are really small like on buds, you have even more. I don't know what happens for hydro growers, but in hand-watered perlite/vermiculite or promix watering kills potency for a couple days, maybe more explosive growth hasn't had time to develop THC, while slow growth under the canopy doesn't hurt. Just take 3 hits only out of a bong and you won't get headaches. If it doesn't catch you a buzz, the plant should be tossed then and there. I smoke mucho dry sift, with a preference for NL5xHaze, (Sour Bubble was meh in comparison) so you can't tell me I don't have tolerance.

4 or 5 years ago I would smoke fans because the buds were not finished and I refused to buy ever again. The high was o.k. but short lived and really didn't taste very good.
I defoliate alot now and always chew on the tender part where the fan leaf meets the main stem of the plant. Its so tasty like carrots or celery. Sometimes sweet...mmmm
I'm not really into smoking fans right now though

I often test a plants potency by sampling the leaves, but Indica leaves always tend to be very lack luster. The more sativa leaning the plant, the better the leaves will be. With a pure 100% tropical sativa like Thia you can actually smoke the leaves for a pretty good effect if you are desperate. Never do this with indica since you will likely just get a headache.

People seem to have a hard time staying OnT, so i will keep it OnT just to be a goodboy. :)

Never smoked the fanleafs but i save it, let it dry out, crumb it down to powder and mix it with smaller sugarleafs nd make oil out of it with alcohol extraction, bubble boiling.

1982. A buddy in a band brought back some from CO. Him, myself a a couple others bonged some up, bout one hour later, one of our younger friends took off and his pops ended up taking him to the ER, lol, and then to military school soon therafter. No lie, it was fire, even back then. In hindsite, the leaves did look sat like. Have no idea name or anything. I still remember how high we got off those leaves. We all were daily smokers back then also.

Last night? Perhaps even later. There is a way to make it smokeable. I smoke it in between harvests. I usually save sugar trim for bho though.

In south east asia, most of the green is malaysian, thai or indonesian stuff, mostly outdoor. what they do is grind up the leaves and popcorns using a blender etc...then press the juices out of them between paper towels and form it into a brick to dry. this increases the potency as it shrinks the leaves, but of course it ain't as good as good nugs. Where I used to live an oz of this cost $560 haha...A mate who stills lives there does the above, plus a water cure...which makes a mellow smoke.

i've got a freak burmese that's got super potent fan leaves. i have smoked fan leaves twice off of her and both times two bowls was all i could handle; i smoke golden tiger and herijuana routinely so i do smoke some potent herb. i'm doing seed runs off a bunch of landrace sativas i recently obtained so i'm growing very small plants just for strain preservation and hybrids. the burmese bud's seeds are almost done and i can't wait to try out the buds off this plant. the leaves off this freak burmese ( three stems above the first embryonic leaves, one sativa pheno, one indica pheno, one gimp stunted stem) actually smoke tasty and smooth which is a rarity for fan leaves uncured or cured.
