What's new

A perfect cure every time

Lately I have been drying in a large tupperwear tote. Big thing. I have wires running every few inches to hang the branches. I have a small fan on one end. Just enough to move the air. I have a loose 6 mil poly sheet on top to let some air out. I have Calibers in there to monitor. When the Rh drops lower than what I want (60%) I put the tote in a 55 gal garbage bag. Big 3 mil black plastic bag. I can then seal it or leave a little open, and watch the Rh.

I do this for a week. This time I'm going to shoot for 60% Rh for that week. About 67F.

Anyway, I jar after this process, but don't see why you couldn't use the aquarium, as long as you had the clotheslines. You could go from green bud through cure.

are you doing this to dry or cure? I made a gabage bin dry box that I do for about 2-3 days then we go to jars, and use this method religiously. Of course my dry box is not air tight.I cut out hole in side and have a 5in fan "sealed" in. It blows OUT not on the buds. We put a cover over the top to limit air movement and prevent overdrying. it works.

Yes. That's what I'm doing right now. My tote is longer, and I've had it at about 65% for three days now. I'll jar them after 5 days total. I would normally go 7 days at that elevated Rh. This tote and garbage bag deal really works well.

Nice thread, thanks for the info.

Has anyone tried a fish tank to do larger batches with only one meter? I like storing in jars but would like to get my whole crop to the proper rh at once, with one meter and one "jar". All stink aside, plastic wrap should work as a lid right?

These are $12.97 at Walmart.

I used to grow mushrooms in them with the help of a carefully cut piece of plexi glass on top.

Can one tell me what batteries the "Caliber III's" take and where is a good place to order them?

The battery is marked.
Pull it and read it.
Or, let me save you the trouble. :)

If I recall, it's a 2032 3V. lithium coin cell.
I find that a 2025 work jus' fine as well with a slightly shorter life.
Just punch those number into the e-bay search engine.

Weezard nailed it.

I just replaced all mine with Energizer ECR2032.

I got 5 on amazon for a little over $3

Hey AG whats ur settings on ur dehuey?

i dry at 50°F / 50% rh.
when the stems snap, i trim and jar.
i wait 3 days and burp overnight at the same 50/50.
afterwords i burp every three days or so for an hour at 60/40.
do that 4 or 5 times and then seal em up in a 60° room.
then they stay shut til they're ready to pack out.
i try to hold em for a month or 2, but sometimes shit be how it be.

This is good stuff! Thanks for taking the time to post this.

So both jars were sealed at the same time, same Rh%, but one had a vac pulled and the other was sealed, but no vacuum. After 30 days, both seemed identical. I'll be curious if you see this trend continue. O2 is definitely needed to decompose organic material (which is why we vac seal) but perhaps this doesn't play a large roll after the initial drop in Rh.

All very interesting! Thanks again.

Have a question. Am at 45% RH inside my Mason jar after 3 weeks cure. Trying to raise it a bit. If I was to open the jar for an hour in a room with 60% RH then seal again would that be the best way to go?

Wouldn't hurt!
Won't re-start a cure, though. :(
Why not?
Suggest you go back and read the first few pages of this thread.:)

I burp the jars daily until it hits 60 or so.

I jar at ~70% and will "burp" for 10 minutes 2X a day until it's ~68%

at 68% I burp once a day for 10 minutes until it's 65%

At 65% I burp once a day for maybe 10 seconds. I want a little air exchange. This assumes the room humidity is low. If it's summer and very humid, this won't work.

At 60 or 61% I stop the burping.
