There's a silver lining in all these price drops!
This puts a huge squeeze not only on local growers, but imagine how it's affecting the Mexican cartels! It could actually drive them out of the market. Right now they're probably responsible for the cheapest stuff getting dumped on the market, like 400 a lb.
If they get stuck with huge inventory they can't sell, they might reconsider their plans for next year. Of course there will be more demand from WA and CO, but it seems locals will supply more and more of it.
See this is one very worthwhile goal, to drive these cartels out of the US market. Of course they can still produce it cheaper than most, so they can sell it for less, but like everyone else who sees their margins dropping, at some point it will no longer be worth it.
Plus I can see the cartels fighting with each other to keep profits up. Let's hope it doesn't result in violence this side of the border.
If the cartels were to eventually abandon the US market (unlikely), imagine how that would affect pricing for local produce...
Looking at the long term, it might be worthwhile to have cannabis prices drop to historic lows for a couple of years. It would increase demand for better quality and only those who have their biz together on all levels will survive. Quality will improve, and over time pricing will firm up. And once most Americans have a regular, local supplier, there won't be room for cartels anymore...
